Why would anyone buy one of these gas hogs when there are so many other better choices? I have a 2017 Suburban, a heavier, roomier, more useful vehicle. My wife and I just got back from a 2200 mile trip to Yellowstone. Trip average was 23. 5 MPG. Thats loaded with camping gear, up and down mountains, twisty backroads, some 80 mph highways (though we stay away from freeways whenever possible, and occasional traffic and road construction. One day we got 25MPG, and one long stretch was 27MPG. This is a 3-ton vehicle and you can fit 4X8 sheets of plywood in back with the tailgate closed (we have done that several times already. The Suburban is amazingly useful and yet fuel efficient. We sleep in back with plenty of room to stretch out. It is a pleasure to own and drive. My whole family was home last summer and the eight of us went on numerous drives in total comfort and safety. Chevrolet (GM) knows how to make big vehicles. The new Ford Expeditions look like they are pretty cool too. When it comes to big vehicles, I recommend you stick with American brands. They have been making vehicles for over a hundred years. Experience counts.

I love the old of this rig, we just bought one because everything is tried and true (no surprises. Ive had larger rigs with 8+ speed auto transmissions and I absolutely hate how all of them hunt for a gear on road trips, especially using cruise control. I also like going a bit backwards on the Tech stack. Less to go wrong, all the manufacturers are pushing the limit on technology and Im tired of being a beta tester for them. One reason Ive swarn off the big three as well. I like the feel of the TRD Sport, the handling is surprisingly tight and flat for something this big, it almost reminds me of a VW Touareg with sport suspension. Long story short, the TRD Sport may not be the status symbol everyone is going for and wont admit to, but it gets the job done, dependably and will do everything I need it to, and then some. Oh, and the price, compared to the GM and Ford offerings make me feel like im not being bent over a barrel. Want more power, get a magnuson supercharger and bolt it right on.

1. Still look better than many modern American SUVS inside and out. When Toyota made this one back in 2008, they were ahead by at least 10 years of everyone else. Thats why they can chill now. 2. As far as MPG goes. Fords and GMs numbers are deceiving. Look on fuelly. com. While sequoias MPG on paper match what people actually report, GM and Ford SUVs drivers report averages even below city MPG. 3. I have owned 2004 Sequoia and 2012 Sequoia Platinum. Purchased 2018 Expidition last year. Will be selling it this year and jump back on Sequoia. New Expedition is junk car all around. You feel it inside and outside. Everything is made cheap and without much thought process. Sequoia is much much better in driving and maintaining, and resale values. 4. The tailgate is powered on platinum and limited. Plus you have to insert key to close the tailgate window for safety. You can open it with remote though. 5. Buy sequoia. Best SUV on the market

Alex what a bit of rubbish How does this compare to the American offerings This is a Toyota built in TEXAS so I suppose it is American. It will outlast the competition. Size of the infotainment? Who cares as long as its functional. The stopping distance you make it sound like 16 feet is the difference maker where you may run over a child. I never heard you talk about the stopping distance being a factor of running people over. Ford Chevy? The Sequoia is gonna last with the bulletproof engine. & Transmission with gears that last. Why are you droning on about Crossovers? They are not comporable. You typically do a good job. but you seem to want to find flaws with the Toyota. its a proven formula. We know you have the Durango. Poor choice for all the vehicles you couldve chosen. Go 4Runner like your father. He knew best

A Sequoia is truly a 3/4 ton SUV that will run 400, 000 miles with proper maintenance. Alex failed to mention that the underlying frame, 5. 7 liter engine and transmission were originally rated to tow 10, 000 pounds which is 3/4 ton truck territory. Our 2014 Sequoia towed a 7500 pound trailer 3500 miles through most of the East Coast last summer and barely broke a sweat. Our previous Suburban 2500 with the 6. 2 liter engine was about equal in towing a similar trailer. It was rated at 9400 pounds towing capacity. Toyota changed its method of towing calculation around 2011, but the vehicle did not change.

I can honestly understand why people like the Sequoia. Its a reasonably decent truck-based SUV - but what it does need is a massive interior refresh. It needs better materials quality to compete with the segment, and it needs better infotainment for the exact same reason. Toyota is moving forward quickly with their other vehicles, and I honestly do hope that the rumored all-new Tundra within the next few years fixes a lot of the issues the Tundra and Sequoia both have. For now, taking the dash and door design straight from the current Tundra would be a massive upgrade by itself for the Sequoia.

I have a 2008 Sequoia Limited with 170K miles and zero mechanical issues. A worry free 10 year ownership experience towing 6, 000 Ib. trailers up and down Colorado mountain passes. It has been acomfortable, reliable and capable 4X4 suvbut the relatively small fuel tank compounds the poor fuel economy/range issue - A total pain when towing and having to fuel up every 200 miles. I would love to buy another refreshed Sequoia but I just cant see paying 60K to drive the exact same suv for another 10 years. If no redesign, I am jumping ship next year. maybe the new Expedition

That old school roll up/down rear glass, controlled by turning the key in the hatch lock, is straight out of 1970-80s Ford LTD wagon and 1990s Buick Roadmaster wagon. Ahhh the memories. Unfortunately, the rest of the vehicle dynamics and even NVH are also not far off those old-school station wagons. Ive driven this truck out in the Hamptons and Ive also driven late model Chevy Suburbans and there is no comparison: the Chevy is far superior. I guess if you need Toyota reliability and are willing to drive a truck that feels like it was built in 1987, go for it.

Okay Alex I love your videos but I have to disagree with your opening statement. Full size SUVs still sale very the Durango still moves about 60, 000 units a year and just last month general motors sold over 9, 000 units of the Tahoe. And what about the full size Nissan armada which is doing well and Im sorry 12, 000 units a year is terrible and thats because it needs to be redesigned. What will happen when to the Sequoia when the new Jeep grand wagoneer hits the market and general motors will have new full size SUVs in about a year from. Come On Man

we have one. this car was purchased reasonably used for driving kids around, needed to be reliable, roomy, good for winter, has to take a lot of abuse. my wife drives it and we really didnt care about driving dynamics, entertainment, agility, design. etc. there are other cars in the family that provide just that. cant remember the last time anything broke on this beast and we put lots of miles on it. excellent for camping or long distance travel. everything works like a clock. Gonna get rid of it for still good chunk of change once mission is accomplished
