2025 Nissan Frontier First Look - Bigger LCD, More Towing, Still Has A V6!

Nissan's 2025 tweaks for the Frontier are modest but important. In a segment that's increasingly going towards turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, Nissan is sticking with a V6 and 9-speed auto. Towing is up over 7, 000 pounds and you can get the bigger 6-foot bed in mofr trims than before.

Oh, Nissan. I’m in the market for a mid-size pickup and have owned many Nissan models before. The Frontier technically checks all the boxes, but the competition is notably more modern/updated. The HVAC controls, camera system, and steering wheel are all aged Nissan designs from at least 2018, if not older. I’ve owned the Altima, Rouge, and Kicks. For a 2025 model, the interior is all too familiar. These designs are functional and reliable, but lack the modern feel of the Tacoma or Ford twins. I would love to see Nissan to take the time to update their design language to be more current, or better yet, set the standard for a mid-size pickup in North America. They need to draw in more customers by making the trims more geared to a specific set of customers. Luxury, performance, and work’ focused trims could really get the Frontier on more people’s shopping list. Nissan needs to do a better job at pulling focus from other brands and not just following behind them to really make this a success for them.

It's an improvement for sure. I was looking to replace my 15 year old last gen Frontier with the current gen, and there's not enough improvement for it to be worthwhile. This is definitely moving in the right direction. However, with the Titan being discontinued, I hope Nissan takes this opportunity to invent a new category. I would love a v6 truck bigger than the current Frontier, but smaller than the Titan. If they could meet in the middle and make something new soon, I'd be very intrigued.

I could do without the huge FRONTIER on the dash and wish they at last offered an optional factory trailer brake controller (as you can get in Tacoma, Ranger, and Colorado/Canyon. Also glad they're offering a tad more on the tow rating, the telescopic wheel and longer bed option. But other than that, I like it (although I wish the backseat room was a tad larger and seatback angle wasn't so upright. I could be persuaded.

Alex, I am with you, I am not a fan of the big FRONTIER name plate on the dashboard. Seems a bit tacky. Also, what's your take on this engine and transmission combination More specifically, the transmission I have heard some bad things about the transmission in these but then again, I think most of those comments came from Toyota fanboys.

As someone who's owned a 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo, and now a 2023 Nissan Rogue SV AWD. I really really wish they would change the instrument cluster. Of course I don't have the full LCD in my Rogue, now I wish I would have gotten it. The updated Rogue interior is great, but that instrument cluster is so outdated to me.

That grille is hideous. Hopefully the other trims look better. I’m not a fan of the Frontier logo on the dash.
I actually prefer non-LCD instrument clusters. I don’t see the point of LCD instrument clusters.
My big concern about the Frontier is the same concern that I have for all Nissan models poor reliability.

Nice update. The 6 foot bed is a must have. My only ask would be for more torque. Love the NA V6, but it's significantly down on torque compared to its competitors. Hopefully the price reflects that it's an old platform and the development costs have been paid for several times over.

Hey Alex, great vid. I’ve been watching you for over a decade and you look great. I don’t know if you lost weight or what but you look younger, not that you ever looked old. Keep it up. Thanks for all the great content for over a decade.

In terms of the transmission, the only thing for certain is the JATCO used the 9G-Tronic as the basis for the initial design. JATCO made several design changes so the amount of Mercedes DNA left in the transmission is unknown.

Nissan doesn't even have the hybrids to go along with a unidbody mini truck like the maverick. Ford only got away with it because it's a hybrid escape with a bed. Toyota would be able to do it though and maybe ram

Wow a lot of important improvements! This pretty much sells me on a 6 foot bed pro4x. Of course I wont be able to buy one for some time thanks to the cost of living being absolutely insane.
reply

Definitely an upgrade, although would like to see it sit a little higher like the Canyon. Like the increased towing capacity. As others pointed out, need to lose that Frontier badging inside.
reply

These seem like good changes. 6ft bed availability and a bigger screen are the 2 things I would have probably asked for. I am definitely okay with them keeping the mostly analog gauge cluster.
reply

Assuming the price doesn't go up a lot, I expect it to be popular. If you don't want a turbo, this is your only option now and the new infotainment should reduce some of the hesitancy.
reply

It looks good from the outside. did not need to do a lot. But the inside looks much better. And thank goodness there's now wireless Android auto
reply

Too much tech pushies up the price, right now nissan's advantage is affordability, dont need an lcd cluster. People want a simple truck under 40k!
reply

I think the updates are spot on and they didn't take away the V6 and 9 speed. Also, the 6 foot bed on the Pro 4X is a game changer.
reply

Now this is a truck Nissan can sell for 15 years - simple, robust, and reliable. Im hoping we get a new xterra on this platform.
reply

This one is going to be atleast $5k more expensive. The 24 pro4x was 48k, the 2025 pro4x will be atleast 53k Im guessing.
reply

Refreshed with the steering wheel of a 2004 model, an analog display, and cheap plastic. Yup, that sounds about right for Nissan.
