OK, there's more to the 2025 than just the J3400/NACS port, there's also this new XRT trim that Hyundai brought along for us to look at. Don't think of it as a competitor to the upcoming Rivian R2 or R3, but it is a nod to the expansion of EVs from road-warrior only to something designed for country dwelling. Also: it gets a rear wiper AND a tax credit. Yep, the 2025 Ioniq 5 will be built in the USA which should net it 1/2 the tax credit at that start and the full $7500 when full battery production moves to Georgia a little later in 2025.

Yes, NACS native port is awesome for peace of mind on long trips. Yes, an adapter to use EA, EVGO and others will be needed. Yet, due to 800V to 400V incompatibility, slow deployment of 4th generation Superchargers the charging will be slow since Hyundai is using rear motor inverter which is roughly 50 kW to convert current from gen 3 Superchargers into its own battery pack. By the way, being an CCS1 architecture, the EV is incompatible with gen 2 Superchargers.
That mess reminds me the time when Apple switched all laptops to be charged via a USB3C port ditching a perfect magnetically attached previous charger. At the time no laptop manufacturer was planning to use soon the USB3C for charging.
To me it looks like incompatibilities are almost built in the products as part of planned obsolescence.

NACS is great, but those with the port in the same location as Tesla (Rivan R2 and Volvo / Polestar) have the short-term advantage until the other charging providers have the same reliability. Being able to use Tesla is one thing but being able to park normally is huge and I think it will sell many vehicles. Assuming of course the ability to charge at Tesla still happens. Given Elon's capriciousness, I don't take that as a given.

Nice to see NACS/J3400 finally coming to fruition. Here's hoping the age of beta/VHS, Blu-Ray/HDDVD, or Toaster Strudel vs Poptarts of the EV world finally coming to and end and in 5 or so years the chargers and cars will finally all have the same port. It's a huge step in wider EV adoption bevause charging is a huge mess right now.

What good is this connector if Tesla hasn't authorized Hyundai to use their SuC Network If anyone can use the Magic Doc stations why doesn't Tesla allow adapters to be used along with their phone app and open up their chargers to everyone right now I don't care if Plug & Charge workks!

Did they add a steel bash plate under it to protect the battery If not, i forsee a lot of warranty denials when people bash the battery plate on rocks and cause damage to the electrical system. Still, very cool to see how much they are doing with the ionic 5.

I just want someone to rollout a mass market EV SUV with a full-sized spare. That and the lack of chargers away from travel corridors are the only reason I get nervous taking mine down forest service roads (still do - but have to do more planning.

Has Hyundai confirmed that they won't be supporting a split pack configuration for faster 400V charging I figured that change would be slipped in with the change to NACS port. If they haven't officially said anything yet, then it could still happen.

When will Hyundai get Supercharger access Just checked and it's still only Ford & Rivian except for Magic Dock stations which don't need J3400 ports. Last I heard GM was next in line but I haven't seen anything about others.

I love it! I cannot wait to find that manufacturing plant so I can go directly and get one (if allowed. I thought the new 2025 Ioniq 5 looks nice with the new tweecks, but now this! I certainly love it.

I did hope that hyundai EV will upgrade their interior to the standard of Xpeng G6 or Zeekr X . I thought Alex was going to China's Chengdu auto show this week. loads of EV there.

Have they shared the ground clearance numbers yet as well as any modifications for the battery protection that is different from the current Ioniq 5

Can countries force automakers to have a standard charging port Much like the EU forcing apple to make usb c the standard for iPhones

The regular ioniq 5 is already ugly. Hyundai basically doubled down on the ugliness. The ioniq 6 on the other hand. is MONEY!
