Think of the Lexus LX 700h as the Lexus Land Cruiser Hybrid. Toyota does. Channel video: Alex on Autos - Category: Auto & Vehicles

I don’t understand this vehicle:
As much as I’ve always liked the Landcruiser/LX, what is the point of the seat configuration The driver gets all the seat amenities but not the front passenger, so this is a driver focused vehicle No because apparently in some trim levels, the rear-right passenger gets the executive treatment seating.
Regarding the offroadability: the non existent front approach angle, the running boards for what Aerodynamics Then why all the off-road stuff in the driveline, locking diffs, adjustable suspension, etc Oh so the owner won’t off-road their $140k suv Then why Bragging rights
I’m a big fan of Lexus, have owned many throughout my life and I’ve always looked up to these flagships, etc but one can only wonder

See Alex I told all of you that you would be very disappointed with the LX. You shouldn’t have driven it as it’s underwhelming in every way. But you didn’t listen to the Toyota hater did you And now all of you are paying the price for it. That price is me humiliating all of you who had high hopes and fell victim to their marketing
Your Naveens a Toyota hater who owns a Camry comments have backfired hard. Because all of you failed miserably to prove me wrong
Maybe this will be a future lesson for you to take me seriously and not waste time driving Toyotas because they’re always going to be super underwhelming

The tundra and Sequioa hybrid both have an alternator and starter. This is the exact same drivetrain as those vehicles. The only difference is the lx600/lx700 runs more timing since it's tuned for 93 vs 87 on the tundra/Sequioa. The reason the battery is sealed because its mounted UNDER the body and in the Sequioa/tundra its mounted inside the body so it doesn't need to be sealed. The lS500 uses a version of this motor but with larger turbos for more hp and less torque since it's a car. Also the overtrail can get a 3rd row. The gx550 can't get a 3rd row in overtrail.

I wonder what percentage of owners who have bought a $115, 000 car will take this on any road that any other car wouldn’t be able to go on That screen plopped on top of the other screens looks terrible. I’m amazed they can’t hide the hybrid battery better when my RAV4 Prime has a battery that is 10 times larger while completely hidden and comes with a full size spare. Must have something to do with all the 4 wheel drive capability. Lexus needs to put that instrument cluster in all of their vehicles now!

I’ve been flip flopping between the LX600 premium and TX500h for this past year. The LX is my choice but for the high price it fails wrt interior design (useless 3rd row, no 2nd row adjustment, dated 2 screen console design, old analog tiny digital driver display, no pano. The TX is perfect for my needs but the build quality is borderline traditional Lexus elegance and will have less value retention compared to the LX. I’m just going to go for a used TX and be done with it.

I've got an LX570. When the 700H overtrail hits the used market, I'll be considering it. Just really bummed they don't have a split tailgate. Also, if they are going to raise the floor like they do, I wish they just did a H model so you could get some groceries in full electric. They seems to have done a lot of fail safes to make sure this can still truly be an overland dirt and mall crawler in the same day.

Does the vehicle use the regular starter/alternator as it's day-to-day primary use or as a backup system in the event the hybrid system goes down Also if the regular starter/alternator go down can it still use the electric motors from the hybrid system as a backup Basically which order of normal usage, and whats the order for backup/redundancy

Well, I know what my next vehicle will be. Ideally an overtrail, 5 seater, no rear TVs, but otherwise loaded. I hope the next refresh gets a more esthetically pleasing dashboard layout, but the rest is good enough to ignore it. The overtrail interior color combo is beautiful, I just don't want that shiny military humvee paint color.

I'd rather have the larger made in Japan Nissan Armada than this for way less money, even if reliability is lower, with the exception that Nissan is probably going out of business now because their old guard are fools who would rather let the business die than have Honda run it.

Always look to Alex and Travis to for their review, as it is the most comprehensive and therefore helpful. As for this vehicle, it's the ultimate expression of the Toyota TNGA-F platform - they built this to last, which explains many of the design decisions they made.

The most ridiculous thing about this $100K Lexus is Toyota’s refusal to put a lithium battery in the hybrid system so the car ended up with a huge NiMH battery that’s way too heavy and takes up way too much space. Japanese conservatism is killing the Japanese.

Very expensive vehicle and great review. I will say 0-60 is a pointless measurement. There is almost no reason to romp on it from 0 unless you’re just having fun. 20-50 40-70 etc are all better specifications to discuss for actual driving feel than 0-60.

I'm confused. The Land Cruiser only comes as a hybrid. Wish we had the Prado diesel. But acting like this Lexus is suddenly cool because of the hybrid is silly, when what Toyota fans want is the optional 6 or a better a V8 is silly.

I just built a 2025 Navigator Black Label for $118K. Now, we all know that price will get negotiated down. $140K for this Lexus seems high based on some of the odd ergonomics. But, don’t get me wrong, it’s very nice.

I have an LX 570. Having a Sport and Sport drive modes on this vehicle is completely pointless. Mine is never in anything other than normal or comfort. This thing is a 6000 lb barge. There is nothing sporty about it.

For acceleration, if it's like other hybrids, just turn the heater on Max. It'll turn on the engine to heat the coolant to warm the cabin, but if you just need that engine on, it's the most convenient way to do it.
reply

I’m surprised Lexus didn’t add some cosmetic changes to differentiate the new 700 model. A grill redesign to shrink it (like the GX550) would have been hugely welcome. Perhaps a new redesign in MY2027.
reply

The non-hybrid dependent redundancy is a nice touch, triple locker is unnecessary but a nice button to have. My likes for the LX kind of ends there. I hope the redesign comes soon
reply

Cant say i'd ignore the 1 mpg it offers for the hybrid, but the space it consumes is significant. I wish the overtrail trim came to the non hybrids as well.
reply

Think it looks great, very imposing and posh. Don't care that it doesn't have the most cargo room, I'm sure you can go pretty much anywhere you want.
