Thanks Alex for another well done, informative video. I have been driving two different Santa Fe's for the past 19 years and have not had any issues with either one (so far. I was considering a new sportage but I really like the 2025 Forester Limited, however I am concerned about how well their CVT would hold up if I used the paddle shifters allot. I've always driven my Santa Fe's (theta eng) at least half the time in manual mode for city driving. (I live in a very hilly area. Do you think the Subaru CVT would hold up well with a driver shifting with the paddle shifters that much Thanks in advance for any opinions.

I like the new Forester inside and out but It looks like there's enough room under the battery that they could have found a way to fit a temp spare tire in there or even indent the outside bottom cargo area for a spare outside. My 2016 Santa Fe sport has
the (FULL SIZE) spare outside and plenty of extra room inside under the cargo tray. Thanks Alex, for the excellent intro to the new hybrid. I'm sure there are plenty more videos to come on this car.

After 20 years of owning a Subaru Forester we were looking to replace it with another Forester in 2020. We were hoping for an electric, plug-in hybrid or even just a hybrid Forester. Of course those didn’t exist. Ultimately we replaced our old Forester with an Ioniq 5 EV three years ago. We’re happy to have skipped the hybrid transition having gone directly to an EV. A Forester with 35 mpg is an improvement but not an impressive one.

Air cooled battery pack durability could be a longer term issue. I can't help but think that this model was a late addition due to customer feedback (they have surveys showing loyal customers switching brands in the last few years due to lack of a hybrid product) and the battery placement and type suggests this was not built into the architecture originally. It's a good start but not enough to win me back.

Alex and Travis, With such a tall greenhouse, it is ridiculous to place the hybrid battery anywhere but under the second row seat. The Forester hybrid's substantially lower mpg and lack of spare tire will send many potential buyers right back to the RAV4 Hybrid. If Toyota can be B-O-T-H-E-R-E-D to improve the next RAV4's back seat space, it will be a stronger competitor than ever.

Why don't manufacturer's package the hybrid battery under the front seats Honda did similar by putting the gas tank under the front seats in the Fit. Since this is a a 1. 1kWh battery, it isn't that big; you'd just have to re-jib your seat mechanisms. This way it would free up the rear trunk space and would have better weight distribution.

How about fix the tech issues before releasing more models riddled with issues I've had my 25 Touring for a week and have come to realize everything I've found to be a problem is called out on the forums by a lot of other folks. Its a great car that feels at best rushed in the tech department and ad worst, half ass3d.

35 MPG is not enough for 2025 standards. My limited 2017 Legacy gives me 31 MPG. I still love Subaru but I was hoping for a little bit more at this price point. Plus, the added risk of a borrowed and Frankensteined hybrid system that is meant to be temporary till Subaru comes up with their own. Think I'll pass this time around

I think I saw a video for the crosstrek hybrid with this set up where they listed hp 193 and torque Off the line it will undoubtedly feel quicker. Hopefully in passing too. Does this retain Subarus ubiquitous lineartronic CVT Or with the additional power does this step up to the higher torque CVT

I think the big reason they didn’t go with the hybrid setup in the WN is because you lose the spare tire as well as some towing capacity. It’d have been nice but you can’t have it all, and most WN buyers would prefer the extra towing capability and peace of mind of having a spare.

Dang everybody complaining bout no spare but have no idea how to change a spare. And most new or modern vehicles don’t carry spares cause of excess weight and the additional cost. Crying how expensive a vehicle is but unwilling to shell out the additional cost for a spare and jacks

Toyota engineers used to be very smart at utilizing every cubic inch of interior room. The new designs came out in recent years seem by a totally different team. In almost all new hybrids the batteries sit in a awkward location.

I'm surprised they didn't put a larger battery in that wheel well to improve efficiency/range given how much space there was. Maybe they needed it for airflow Anyhow, if I was in the market for a Subaru, this would be tempting.

Thanks for the review, Alex. No spare tire on a Subaru is terribly disappointing. Was hoping the company would stick to their off-road/camping reputation and eschew that awful trend of omitting spares.

You lost me at air cooled lithium ion pack. That won't last in any kind of heat. With how hot a hybrid battery gets vs a full ev battery, I don't even expect it to last warranty period

I don't understand why you need huge grill holes, it's very easy to get rocks and break the radiator. Especially in a hybrid that the gas engine isn't all the time ON.

Have a 2021 Forester Touring that already gets 32 MPG. Why should I consider a hybrid Forester that hardly improves on that at all A PHEV version would be a different story.

They did a good job. This is what the rav4 hybrid should have been like the competition. 5mpg sacrifice isn’t that bad in the grand scheme of things.

The packaging of that air cooled li-ion battery with a huge spare tire void below seems like they spent about 5 minutes on engineering the hybrid.
