2025 Rivian R1T Review - Major Changes Live Under The Light Refresh

Rivian's OG R1T got enough changes for 2025 that I'm surprised they didn't call it an R1T2, or perhaps and R2D2 Anyway, there are enough changes to the R1T to almost qualify it as a new truck. We get re-worked batteries, new motors, a significant reduction in wiring and complexity, better software, and the coolest headlights in N. America. Yep, these are the first Active Matrix headlamps approved for sale in the USA! Are they the best Matrix lamps in the world No, but they are the only game in town. The R1T is also the only game in town if you want an electric mid-sized pickup truck. Well, I suppose that also depends on how you consider the Tesla Cybertruck, which isn't exactly full-sized either. This sticky situation and all the required caveats and explanations are why this video was supposed to be short, but ended up a 2-parter. Oops. Part 2:

I dont know what GM did to Alex but whether he is reviewing one of their products or a rival product, the constant shots and double standards with regards to their stuff is consistent. I cannot believe the way lack of carplay was glossed over in this review. Every single GM EV review has been heavily focused on criticism around no carplay and in this review it was a footnote- in fact it wasn't even a complaint! Can we at least get consistency On the GM evs you have suggested that is a dealbreaker omission and here its not even worth complaining about because its a Rivian. Also, the interior of the cybertruck is more luxurious than the Sierra Denali Come on man. You have to keep the anti GM stuff within the realm of credibility.

According to some reviews, the adaptive high beam in Europe is building sidewalk pedestrians especially over the hills. There is enough drivers that does not even turn on their full headlight system due to the DRL on the road and now this new adaptive high beam system when left on in auto headlight system and in poor weather conditions. based on the demo showing, it may shine into vehicle's rear view side mirrors two or three in front especially when it comes to curvy or hilly roads as shown in the video. more road rage while adding new technology for those who pays more!

The practicality of the front trunk is optimized for wading depth, from what I understand. In a flood, I really don’t want to worry about the items in my front trunk. I’d rather worry about keeping my family safe. In terms of categorymid-size versus full-sizefor Pete’s sake! Look at length. It’s a mid-size. Please stop trying to compare this truck to full-size pickups. This is nonsense. Conservegenerallyis a bad idea, since it will unnaturally and prematurely wear the tires. Expect to cut tire life in half, if you use conserve regularly.

Even if I had a vehicle that went from zero to sixty in under three seconds. it will take me 12 seconds for my brain to catch up
Rant: Can you please sell a pickup that does not have electronic countermeasure pods, air to air missiles, a gyro stabilized cannon, and an espresso machine Seriously for those of us who think while they drive. save me the expense of having the vehicle do so many things for me. I know how to dim high beams, stay in my lane, etc.

The refusal to incorporate Apple Carplay or Android Auto reduces the usefulness of Rivian vehicles. It's a more efficient design as a truck than the Cybertruck. Meaning getting work done. At the end of the day, practically is important. The Cybertruck is the most useless design. Not made for actually doing work.

Hmm, if the onboard A. C. charger is limited to 11kw by amperage (if 45 amps it will drop to 9ish kw when fed 208v instead of 240v. How high a voltage can it take If I had a 15kw transformer that could boost the voltage to 300v would the R1T charge at 13kw

Do those adaptive high beams do anything when pedestrians are around or not shine at cars on the other side of multi lane highways People already use their auto high beams in the neighborhoods and pedestrians have no chance.

The Rivian R1T being smaller than a full size truck is a big selling point for me. I just wish they offered a much less expensive base version. I don’t need the 0-60 mph power, wood trim or air suspension stuff.

LOVE the Rivan. I just do not love the price. It is a midsize with a top of the heap price. It is same price as crew cab Tacoma or GMC Canyon or etc just DOUBLE the money. DOUBLE.

From Europe here. The adaptive high beams are still annoying. It looks like the car has high beams but it doesn't and it still blinds you
reply

Great job showing the adaptive high-beams. I would've been skeptical if you'd just described it, but the video speaks for itself.

I disagree, The CT has FSD which just shuts the R1T down. I use FSD everyday, and can't imagine living without it now. .Honestly.
reply

Alex, Unlike the Rivian you owned a couple of short years ago, I don't think this one can be sold used for a profit.
