Soul is just weird looking and increasingly so with the new models. I would get this one, but frankly Im in love with my 16 Optima SXL, and when my lease is up Ill either buy it or lease a newer Optima. One feature that I wish you would include on your reviews is whether or not vehicles have surround view cameras. Ive become utterly addicted to it on the Optima, and whatever my next car is, it will include a surround view camera. Its like a cheat code for parking.

Dont like the funky, boxy shape of the Soul? Not fond of rodents advertising vehicles? Dont worry. Kias got you covered. The 200+ range combined with 200 HP and nearly 300 ft lbs of torque transforms these vehicles from urban commuters that requiring recharging every night to cars that can be used for mid-range road trips. At the likely price points, thats a game changer.

Dont like the rotary dial shifter. Im thinking about seniors or people in a rush not thinking and forgetting to push down enough/or at ALL for Park. Should use another design however I cant find too much else to pick on just wondering about ground clearance it looks like it had more than the Soul. I love the battery range. Ill check back later for a full review.

Alex, as usual, your comprehensive reviews are a joy to behold. Im eager to test drive both of these. Problem is that I need to buy a car this month. I think Ill like the Soul EV best. I really dig that car. The Niro does nothing for me. I wish it did, but it just doesnt. Its too run of the mill for me.

Both Kia and Hyundai have come out throwing big punches. Both are going to set the bar for value for money in this emerging market. My money is on the Niro. Its a nicer experience inside Kia Niro than the Hyundai Kona electric. In any event the end of internal combustion engines is coming soon

Id be interested in seeing just how big the 2020 Soul EV is in the real life. The 2020 Soul EV is supposed to sit on the Kona EV platform. While the e-Niro sits on the larger (than Kona) Ioniq platform. In other reviews the e-Niro is noticeably larger than the Kona EV in real life.

I think the transmission selector in this Niro EV is one of the better designs as far as ease of use is concerned. Most manufacturers are doing the button layout and, while some do have an easy to figure out layout, I think Kias rotary dial takes the lead at the moment.

The Soul is too polarising in its styling to be the only EV in this segment. Sure its got great packaging but it looks like a Nissan Cube on steroids. So there has to be a more conventional offering as well in order to saturate the potential market segment.

Niro EV is better looking than Soul EV. Though Im a bit surprised its EPA range is 239 miles, about 20 miles less than Hyundai Kona EV? I know its a bigger car, so I would have expected just a few miles less. like 10 miles less, not almost 20 miles less.

Very nice work by Kia. Practical range and well packaged. Lack of battery supply will probably mean this is only available in CARB states, but it is probably the best affordable EV out there now, at least until we see what the long-range Leaf will offer.
