The inevitable question appears. why buy this over the BMW its based upon. This is always the question that arrives in these types of badge engineering exercises. I would consider it a collaboration if Toyota had more say and componentry on this car. BMW clearly was the lead organization on the engineering, build, and sourcing for this car. It looks like Toyotas biggest contribution was styling. So, why did they build this car? I guess it was to insure enough cars in enough markets could be built to make it viable and not much else. Are there Toyota customers really biting at the bit for a BMW with a Toyota badge? Old Supra fans might scoff because it isnt as over the top as the previous one, nor is it a Toyota. Toyota shoppers may scoff because its largely a BMW with BMW repair costs and BMW reliability. BMW fans may like it but it lacks the BMW badge. I guess this is for a new buyer I havent identified. I like the car, I just dont know who its for. Considering coupes are falling out of favor, sedans are losing market share, and sports cars are taking a big sale hit, this is probably the last Supra unless they pulled a Mitsubishi (eclispe sport coupe - eclispe CUV) and make Supra a crossover the next time around. This car is a decade too late.

Horribly disappointing since it was a decade long wait from a gorgeous concept. Easily 100 hp underpowered. They do realize it had close to same power as a Corvette in 98. And in that time the Corvette has gone to offering over 700. This goes from 320 to 335 in 20 years? This is nothing more than what the BRZ/86 trd should be. They also have to know the Camry practically touches that power level right. While a mustang offers well over 400 horses. Gee why doesnt anyone take Toyota and sport seriously? I wonder why. Sad video.

As the owner of a 1998 Turbo 6speed Supra, I cant wait to drive it to the Toyota dealership to test drive this Supra disappointment just for the hell of it and then after the test drive, get back into my 4th gen and drive it home. This shouldnt be called a Supra. It is not a Toyota motor with Yamaha help. There is no manual option. 335 HP, so we waited all these years for an additional 15hp from the stock USDM 2jz. What a joke Akio Toyoda.

G37X stock 330hp All wheel drive Now add a Stillen stage 3 Turbo kit with Suspension mods and brakes and its better than the rear wheel drive Supra BMW could ever be. If you are a true Toyota fan and purist, you cant, you just cant buy this bs if youre going to buy a BMW go buy a BMW dont buy a BMW with a Toyota badge on it. if you want to buy a BRZ buy a Subaru BRZ and not a Subaru with a Toyota Scion badge So pathedic

Im all for sharing development costs to bring a low volume sports car to market but this is an icon you dont mess with. Its just wrong to have a BMW engine in a Toyota especially when there are Lexus engine options already developed. Mark my words, the Toyota/Japanese sports car enthusiast with 50k to spend will not buy this car knowing its powered by BMW. This will be the biggest automotive flop of 2019.

My issue with new Supra is that it only carries Supra name but it really isnt successor of original. Supra was always GT car, with 2+2 and this car we got is really small, it has a shorter wheelbase than GT86. New Supra might be a good sports car but it is Supra in name only. I would even argue that Lexus RC F is real successor of Supra, it just doesnt carry its name.

Hi Alex. Whats your opinion on this: I just bought a 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo and I really wanna drive it hard but only if it wont damage the engine over time. Are these cars built to be revved high all day long provided the engine is warm and you dont hit redline? Or am I only supposed to occasionally floor it when needed, and granny drive daily? Thanks.

Just a quick correction Alex, while the Z4 is this cars direct sibling the interior quality/size and hard-top actually place it along side the BMW M240I. Which starts at 45, 000so its actually more expensive. Looking forward to your test drive with it however.

This thing is going to be a nightmare out of warranty because its designed and made by BMW, plain and simple. Oil pan gaskets will leak, cylinder wall liners will degrade and cause oil burning, water pumps will fail, timing chain tensioners will disintegrate.

What planet is Lexuss driving dynamic is equal or better than BMW? The 30 years old Lexus have never been up to par with the 1916 Bavaria Motor Works. Toyoda approached BMW just as McLaren and others did for the best engine in the world. Wards Engine choice.
