Some Negatives: Unfortunately, LED headlights is not standard equipment on ES, you will have to pay extra for the F Sport or options; most luxury vehicles have LED headlights as standard. The asymmetrical center console looks awful with tiny silver buttons the size of a tic tac. Not very useful when you are trying to drive and push it. All new vehicles nowadays have touch screens, even Ford, Toyota, and Chevrolet, and Tesla but not the new ES. Audi has dual touch screens, and Mercedes has both a touch screen and a controller on their 2019 sedans. Its very surprising to see that the older ES 2010 model had a touch screen and now it doesnt, and it seems to be going against the widely accepted trend. It will be another 6 years before ES decides to gain a touch screen since Lexus do a major remodel every 6 years, that means it may possibly have a touch screen again in 2025, or 18 years after the invention of iPhone. And having owned an ES with touch screen (2010-12 model) and one with a controller (2016-18 model, I can honestly say that touch screen just works much better. And the dashboard is a buffet of plastic, all in the same color, how plain. Also, while test driving the 2019 model at the dealer lot, I felt that the view out the front windshield feels extremely limited due to the raised instrumental panel with the 2 turning nobs sticking out and the navigation screen now raised higher. I feel extremely claustrophobic in the driver seat. vehicles rear end looks droopy with those 2 lines flowing down the sides of bumper, they look like a fat guys flesh hanging out of his swimsuit. Positives: The main things I like about this car is the reliability and quality, it is really FLAWLESS, I have no complaints whatsoever from owning 2 ES, and the huge rear leg room is a big selling point. The 2019 model rides like it floats through clouds with quietness and refinement. The ES used to be a bargain (price-wise) compared to German brands. However, for the 2019 model after you add up all the extra options & packages, the car will cost about 50, 000 which is the same price as a base model 2019 Porsche Macan (49, 900, and now I wonder if ES is really that attractive anymore.

Do It Right
I actually own the FSport model of the 2019 Lexus ES 350, and while I love the cars exterior ( in Red with black interior) I must say Lexus is falling behind in Interior styling and quality. I sat in a Genesis G80 as well recently and also saw the new 2019 BMW 5 series, and the Lincoln Continental and they all blow the Lexus out of the water as far as the interior is concerned. Especially the Black Label Lincoln is absolutely beautiful inside. The only reason I went with Lexus again( used to have a 2016 GS 350) is because of reliability and depreciation is horrible for BMW, Genesis, and Lincoln ( as well as Cadillac, which doesnt even have a dog in this fight in my opinion) The BMW 5 Series has an average 3 year depreciation of 52%. thats because their quality control and build quality has gone completely out the window within the last 10 years. The oil pump in my 2009 BMW 750 Li went bad at 37k miles. Thank God for extended warranties.

Great review Alex as always Love the new ES myself. I had a 2015 that I sold to a friend. Dont expect to get much of a discount on a new one though, as Lexus isnt dealing on them very much. at least right now. Ended up going with a new Avalon Limited and am very happy with my decision. Toyota dealers are negotiating on the Avalons. Got 7K discount. 2K rebate + additional 5K dealer discount. You do give up the rear sunshade, but with window tint not really necessary. Also, no rain sensing wipers. However you do gain heated/fold down rear seats in the Avalon which are not available in the ES. 37k out the door, and I couldnt touch the ES for that money. Yes, you do give up the dealer experience at Lexus, but that, and having an L on the front wasnt worth the price difference to me.

I think the ES is a loner based on its drivetrain. I wouldnt compare it with the Acura as thats not a luxury brand like ES besides it has SHAWD which is not available in the ES. Cadenza is good value especially considering the warranty period available, but still not a luxury brand. The Lincoln sedans come to mind but they do not have the same heritage as the Lexus and I guess that explains the price differential even if the Lincolns are value packed. In my opinion a shopper who originally wanted the ES would go right ahead and buy it without cross-shopping. If Lexus included AWD in the ES, the GS sales would plummet so Lexus wont do that. They simply provide an ES to upsell Avalon shoppers who want a luxury badge with legendary reliability and ride confort

I would still take a Genesis G80 over this any day for the super long warranty and rear-drive platform with available AWD, plus superior engine choices (TT v6 or NA v8) and in my opinion a superior interior, but I still appreciate a luxury car that focuses on luxury and comfort over a stiff sporty drive with sports car handling and solid, grippy sport seats. This, the Genesis G80 and the Lincoln MKZ all do the non-sporty comfort-focused mid-size luxury sedan perfectly. German luxury cars have basically ruined the luxury car market as now every automotive journalist wants every luxury car to be an autobanh cruiser, even in the US where nobody can legally go even close to those speeds.

Im a Toyota, Honda, and BMW owner for years and I keep my cars like new condition with service at dealer and hand wash as my hobby. I gave my son my Acura RL and was searching for a replacement for the past few months. I stumbled on your videos and have been watching most in this category. I started with the 300h and saw that ten times and went to several dealerships but couldnt find the ultra luxury hybrid model. I like the look of the F sport but I was looking for a luxury car and found a ES ultra luxury in a V6 with all the options it for me feels like a small LS for 30, 000 less. Thanks for the great videos that help me make a decision on my retirement car.

One thing that I see differently somewhat from your take on the US manufacturers following the Germans would be the Chrysler 300, Cadillac XTS and Ford Taurus (albeit all older designs but still in the market. However, the German follow up is such a statement maker in the media that one can easily overlook these non formula vehicles or to find them at an odd place. Keep up the good work and thanks for another superb video.

I need a better name
Having an F-sport option is completely contradictory to the mission of this car which is comfort, not performance. Not only that, putting an F-sport on this car actually cheapens the F-sport name. Its like when Chevy added an SS option to a bunch of their vehicles. The thing that struck me the most were the two knobs that stick out on both sides of the instrument cluster (the controls for drive mode and traction control. That just looks hideous The first thing that came to mind when I saw that was Shreks ears

As a UK GS450h owner, the ES is a huge disappointment. its clearly a good car, but its directly replaced the GS in the UK market and were only getting the ES300h. That means were losing a fast RWD car and getting a slow FWD car instead. Im sure it will sell better (the GS450h sold less than the Ferrari 458 per year in Europe I believe) but its a shame. Leaves only the expensive (but very nice) LC500h as a fast model without the V8- which is an issue here considering fuel is nearly 3x the price of the US.

As a UK GS450h owner, the ES is a huge disappointment. its clearly a good car, but its directly replaced the GS in the UK market and were only getting the ES300h. Lexus, the car for people who want second rung Luxury. Why would anyone buy a Lexus? Theyre slow, have old interior technology, have boring interiors, poor materials, poor mpg, terrible emissions and dont look good. Why wouldnt you buy a BMW, Audi, Porsche, Mercedes etc? Those cars know how to build a car for this segment properly, they also handle a lot better as Lexus always get slated for being boring. Like Cadillac, these simply appeal to coffin dodgers.
