Does the TRD Off-Road package turn the RAV4 into a rock-crawling, Jeep-eating machine? Not quite. But it does make for an attractive crossover that'll get you father than most folks will ever venture in their new RAV4. Vincent: I agree, I think we need a full size spare, hooks and skid plates. Especially when you are TRD placing this vehicle. I like the RAV4. If I was buying a cute ute, this is top of the litter. The Subaru Forester is next. Don't like CVTs though. But AWD Subies are sweet confidence builders. Owner of 2 previous Subies. Toyota does the right stuff here. RAV4 is top selling because they know their core audience. I drive a Cherokee now but not the Trailhawk. I am one of those who would never visit the rough and tumble off road. So mine is the Latitude with the V6 and AWD. In the snow and slush it is fine. Running on Michelins. Couldn't be more pleased. Never really liked the Bridgestones that much anyway. Unlike Toyota where it will be uneventful due to reliability, my Cherokee has definitely put adventure. hmmm seems Toyota is not the only owner of that moniker, with the Cherokee. Kind of like a Grand Cherokee left in the dryer too long, I like it. Would I buy it again? No. It would be an Outback, or Forester or this RAV4 but in Adventure trim and change out the tires if I am that OCD about it. Install my own skid plates and get the tow package and install tow hooks somehow. Not easy. This is a a couples' camper or picnic car, not a rock crawler. Get a Jeep Wrangler for that or a 4Runner already. This is getting it done for the rest of us who want space, efficiency, economy, and reliability. Says RAV4 all over it doesn't it? Nice review Alex, glad you got your camera back.

It's unfortunate for enthusiasts that the fourth and fifth generation Subaru Forester has gone more mainstream and Subaru has set their sights more focused on the RAV4 and CR-V sales numbers than off-road capability. However it is fortunate for everyone else and, as a company, that is the point. I'm totally fine with that too. It's nice to see someone commenting on the CVT's contribution to the lack of off-road ability in the newer Forester models. I personally prefer CVT's because of the benefits they provide. However the fact that the Subaru Foresters with CVT's are significantly less capable than the Foresters with stepped automatics or manuals is the reason why I can't go back to Subaru anymore. I will always love my Subaru Forester but Subaru's newer vehicles are no longer what I need or want.

The Rav4 will be my next replacement vehicle to replace my 2001 corolla, but I have put that on hold since his pandemic that leave me with out a job. However when I do get around to it, it will be the XSE Hybrid. Alex I like your RAV4 XLE Hybrid long term review, which I will agree with you that it the one with the sweet spot when it come to cost, but I need the bigger infotainment and some other options that I think you can not get on the XLE

Most of Toyota s all wheel drive vehicles are among the least capable among the competition. This winter I was stranded with my friends in their current gen hybrid RAV4 in a few inches of snow while countless other vehicles were driving right by us. Ultimately a smaller lighter vehicle, a Subaru Crosstrek, pulled us out. Toyota honestly just doesn t get it. Their traction control software is arguably the worst in the world.

Hi Alex great video like always. I have a 2019 adventure since a year now. I enjoy driving the RAV4 adventure winter driving no problem I use the RAV4 adventure for the farm and private. Great performance especially when I use it for the farm to towe equipment and going on the fields. The TRD would be great if it would come with skid plate since it is a TRD. Be well

I like that Toyota got Falken to make crossover-sized AT tires for this. AT tires are the number one thing I want on a crossover when out on rough forest roads and they are hard to find in typical crossover sizes. I'm eager to see how this compares to the Baby Bronco - if it ever gets revealed.

Don't forget that the Subaru AWD system is much more robust than other on-demand AWD systems, and it doesn't overheat and disengage like, say CR-V, RAV4, Tiguan etc. when used very aggressively for a longer period.

Approach and departure angles as well as power-train are my personal concerns for this trim/model. I wish the Rav4 had that 3. 5L V6 option. I used to work for Toyota, and I'm just not a fan of this current 2. 5L.

Thumbs Up for Alex! Thumbs Down for Toyota! This is NOT an off-road vehicle. Well, at least the road and wind noise make it feel like an off-road SUV---even worse now with AT tires. Toyota Ridicules Design (TRD.

Not true. The Jeep Cherokee has plenty of Chanel s for off roading. Buying a off reader they will drive it there. Do the research please Alex I was surprised. When renegade owners take they re cars off road.
