A Rolling Dinosaur or The Last Real Lux SUV? 2020/2021 Lexus GX 460

Rugged and reliable? Or as old as time itself? You could say both of the Lexus GX 460. The current generation dates back to 2009, or really to 2003 if you want to be technical about the 2010 model year refresh and that presents a sting of pros and cons depending on your perspective. There are very few body on frame SUVs in the luxury segment, even fewer with naturally aspirated engines, yet fewer with a focus on off-road ability and really just one that combines that with a sterling reliability reputation: the GX. But there's a problem: It really does feel as old as it is. No CarPlay or Android Auto, few of the luxury gadgets you'd find in an X5 or GLE, and handling that's more ponderous than a small pickup

I own a 2018 and wish it had the apple carplay feature in it. I don't see Lexus updating the GX 460 anytime soon. Since people are buying it as is, Lexus won't change it. I wish the ventilated seats were cooler and fuel economy was better. If those complaints were addressed, I would certainly consider buying another one. If they don't update when I'm in the market for a new vehicle or it goes away, I will look at a pickup from Ford, Nissan or Ram.

Great review. You said this doesn t have a lot of the modern technology like Apple car play and a nice infotainment system but it is great for off-roading. 99% of people use infotainment and GPS in their vehicles. And 99% of SUV owners (luxury and non luxury) don t do off-roasting. Therefore it s not really a very practical car today. So what s the appeal?

Hi Alex, my name is Luis Urbieta and I love the content but no, no car is perfec5 at all but also, it doesn't have the latest tech and safety tech. If everything was perfect things wilo be bland. I view you from Escondido California and I love these videos.

Yes, I admit I forgot about the Infiniti QX80, it is also a body-on-frame SUV, but in all fairness, everyone else has forgotten about the QX as well. (Navigator and Escalade are in kind of an odd category to their own, they aren't really GX competitors)

Isn't this Alex's second or third review of what's basically, the same model for the past 10 years? As old as these are, they're still moving off the lots. Wonder why Lexus still offers the GX to journalists.
reply

Really dont get why people buy new vehicles. So much lose of value and if you uppgrade and fix up a old one you will get a much nicer car for way less money even when letting someone else fix up the car for you.

That is the absolute worst looking grill in the industry. Lexus has truly failed the styling test for the last decade at least. Hyundai, Genesis, and even Kia are doing far better for the Asians.

That grill will never not be FUGLY. I turned away from Lexus once they started putting it on everything. The RX used to be my all time favorite car. Not once they put that ugly face on it.
reply

My neighbor has one. He wanted to get another one but because they never updated it he gave it to his daughter and then he bought a Mazda SUV. Lexus should be embarrassed.
