Forget what you know about Lincolns Navigator. Lincolns flagship SUV arguably started the big luxury SUV segment, but later versions lacked the luxury feel and ling that youd expect out of a six-figure people mover. To remedy that Lincoln pulled out all the stops for the all-new fourth-generation Navigator which is more luxurious than ever and is truly the flagship vehicle the Lincoln brand has been looking for. Looking for acres of real wood? Check. Premium interior finishes? Check. Bling? You got it. Special models named after a chalet and a yacht? Yup. Twin-turbo V6 and a 10-speed transmission? What else would you expect? Of course specs are one thing, execution is another and here is where Lincoln has really excelled. The new Navigator is truly a vehicle that (if you e interested in a big SUV of course) can compete head on with not just the Cadillac, but the large SUVs from Europe as well. No kidding

I was looking at a Yacht Club Black Label version at a regional auto show and compared it to a Mercedes GLS 550 on the floor as well as the Escalade and Range Rover. I would disagree with you on the GLS interior as I feel the Navigators interior is FAR superior. In fact, its probably the nicest interior on any car you can buy this side of a Bentley, from what I can tell. The leather quality, wood quality, trim, etc. all were far above anything Ive ever seen in a GLS. The one on the floor looked about 20 years out of date, drab, and had far too much plastic to be in a 120k vehicle. I normally prefer the Range Rovers interior vs. nearly everything else, but the Navigators interior was even better than that. I suppose it really just depends on if you like the Germanic style monochromatic, dull, and boring interiors or if you like something with a little style and class.

This SUV costs as much as a GLS 550 and it looks like ever interior part was sourced from a Chinese plastic recycling bin. If you consider bling to mean shiny. Indeed this monster has a ton of it, however, it looks absolutely horrible. The only thing I dont get is how despite similar HP, torque numbers and weight, this thing is noticeable slower than a 550 which can get to 60 in less than 5 seconds (4. 8. The exterior is hideous as is true of virtually all Lincoln products. Simply a god awful vehicle. Its real competition is the Cadillac which is to my eye visually more attractive and the Q80 which is another utter eyesore. Till the day they stop making SUVs out of pickup truck parts these things will never catch up to the GLS in nay shape or form.

Great review (as always. We recently bought a 2018 Ford Expedition Limited 4WD and its a good match for what we need. When we were shopping, others recommended that I also check out the Navigator. There arent many Navigators on the dealers lots around here (5 within 100 miles of Nashville vs 87 Expeditions - maybe they are just selling really well. The Navigator requires 93 octane gasoline. And the second row console would have been a problem for us. I can see how it would be a good choice for some others. Both the Expedition and the Navigator are built in the same Ford plant in Louisville, KY along with Fords Super Duty truck line.

Great review, Alex. But you glossed over the elephant in the room: Lincolns independent rear suspension and third row seating comfort. Any adult who has ever tried to wedge themselves into the third row of an Escalade knows thats it is a tiny space and a knees to the chest seating position regardless of the official legroom statistics. In other words, the third row is strictly for young children or limited to 10 minute Uber rides. The Lexus side flip third row is an even worse joke than the Escalade and strictly for emergency use. The Lincoln, however, has a true and adult-usable third row where adults sit up comfortably.

Finally went to a dealership to see whats all the talks about and one thing I can say is this Veh. is the best truck Ive ever seen from a American manufacturer it completely destroys the Escalade the radio, interior and display is amazing but its still way over priced (PRICE GOUGING ) the dealership did offer me a chance to test drive one but I didnt have time so cant say how well it drives. I will probably buy one used in the future when they come off lease but Lincoln has a winner, Cadillac is going to have to come big to compete with this veh even then I still would buy the Navigator and Im a Cadillac fan boy.

I still like the Escalade more. I do give the Navigator the third row but the Escalade has bolder styling while also being a bit more simple. Also the infotainment system is integrated into the dashboard instead of being a tablet-like thing. The Caddy has a column shifter instead of an electronic button shifter which wont work if the battery dies and you need to tow it. Fuel economy really isnt much worse assuming you treat it well. A V8 is smoother and sounds better (cuz no turbo lag and theyre inherently balanced. Also in the Platinum you get 4 RES screens instead of only 2 on the front seat backs

While Im very impressed with the new Navigator in general, I dont like the slow steering ratio they chose. Watching you turn the steering wheel so much that you had to move to hand over hand or shuffled steering on that country road really demonstrates this. On a road like that most drivers would like to have the option to keep their hands in a fixed 9/3 or 10/2 grip position. Even if it lost more steering feedback and resulted in very heavy steering if power was lost, Id still prefer a quicker ratio. Do they offer a quicker ratio in some sort of performance option?

I really like new Lincolns it really looks modern but that tail light just doesnt fit it. Lights like that fit nicely on vehicles that are not so tall, here it just looks awkward. Cadillac also has very nice interiors but need to work on streamlining exteriors a bit imo. All in all quality and design of American vehicles stepped up in recent years but there are still some god awful failures like Camaro 5th gen interior where radio and dials look like Chinese kids toys, even that neon light they opted for looked like something made to draw in kids.

The profits on these vehicles are unbelievable which means the actual cost to build these vehicles after taking in consideration all expenses is why they lose value so fast it was never worth what you paid. It also says that American car companys have no problem like the Germans charging what people will pay to look successful or cool and not what the vehicle is really worth. Me Pay 100K for this truck or the Escalade never is it nice yes but not 100K nice just my opinion. As WC. Fields once said a sucker is born every day so suckers line up Lol.

I gotta say. Lincoln has some really exciting and superior products today I especially am waiting to check out the new Nautilus Their entire SUV line up has a conservative, yet modern appearance and is quite appealing to my eyes Havent seen any of the new models yet in person but looking forwards to checking them out soon. If Caddilac does not address this problem with the next Escalade, its gonna be a sweep for Lincolns SUV line up BTW. The addition of a real wood steering wheel would of completed that handsome interior
