2024 Volkswagen Atlas + Cross Sport In-Person First Look

2024 Volkswagen Atlas + Cross Sport In-Person First Look

The Volkswagen Atlas has received a second refresh for the 2024 model year. Tweaked exterior details and an all-new interior dashboard design gives the brand's largest model a modern update. Also, for both the regular Atlas and the Atlas Cross Sport, the V6 is gone. The new engine is a single 2. 0L turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 269 horsepower. Let's take a (rather noisy, unfortunately) first look. Chris: The comments in here are proof that the industry is completely broken. The EA888 4cylinder is incredibly reliable and makes a ton of power with an excellent power band. V6s just don t offer up much for SUVs like this. Not only that, but back before the HP race of the 2010s we had nothing but cars doing 9 second 0-60s and no one complained. Everyone has become so accustomed to more power without realizing the wear, stress and environmental impacts that places, not to mention increased fuel usage. This is a smart move by VW and others to size down.

I wish they'd offer the 3. 0T at least as an option. The Atlas is just too lethargic in most settings. I get that most buyers don't care for bracket racing their family truckster, but there is no way this thing would be comfortable towing 5K pounds with people inside.
All of that aside, the interior is a MAJOR step up in quality, finish, and design. Seems like VW is moving away from their hard-angke styled interiors for a more premium design.

VW management:
Atlas isn't selling well bc it is one of the least reliable models, how do we fix this?
Let's reduce the engine size by 40% but keep the tow rating the same, add our new infotainment and electronics that have proven to be even less reliable than before, remove all buttons and light up the logo!

I like the Cross Sport. But after owning 2021 SEL Premium, I had a number of issues with it, had it for repars over 6 times in 3k miles. Even the local dealership gave up on it and said it's lemon. VW of America refuse to buy it back so I had to hire a lemon attorney to get my money back. Will never touch VW again.

The illuminated emblem doesn't look cool, it looks gimmicky. But I have no issues with it as long as the owner has the ability to switch it off. I certainly wouldn't want to be driving to a high brow event with a glowing VW logo on the hood and rear. Even if it were a Bentley emblem it would still look gaudy.

The exterior has always looked great on these. This looks even better imo. It s a shame the interior now looks better but is plagued by a lackluster control interface. I m surprised if this interior lasts a year with VW confirming to already working on bringing back physical knobs and controls to their lineup.

Just when other automakers are finally taking to heart that buyers want a volume knob and actual buttons, VW celebrates 2013 all over again with crappy capacitive touch points. How many times do we need to teach you this lesson, old man?

Looks like just the fixed infotainment system. I wouldn't want that engine long term. Probably only has direct injection. VW you switched to those annoying volume sliders, why? It does look better. How much more expensive will this be?

People think it's all about making money but nahhh! Y'all are making great financial mistakes I think growing money with investment should be your 2023 decision this year it has made me who I am today I learnt this from my mentor.

I ll be honest. I have the 2022 Golf GTI autobahn and it has the same infotainment show here. It look gorgeous but honestly it s a hazard down the road as operating it takes your eyes off the road for far to long.

I could never buy one of these simply based on their terrible resale value. When you think about a car in terms of depreciation, this is significantly more expensive to own than say a grand highlander

There seems to be an explosion of 3 row vehicles despite the fact that many Americans are having fewer or no children. Can't wait for Alex to do a compro on them after he has test driven them all.
reply

Absolutely love the exterior updates! Super sharp looking vehicle! I am disappointed by the lack of V6 as at LEAST an option. the Highlander is the ONLY other vehicle in the class with no V6.
reply

Wait, why is this just getting a refresh after 5 years? There should be an all new Atlas. They're going to try and stretch this 8 years it looks like. Worst vehicle in segment.
reply

Amazingly good exterior and interior upgrades, but ultimately let down by the woeful powertrain. Pretty clear VW is aimed for electrification in the next gen Atlas.
