I wouldn't call it a solution in search of a problem. It's more solving the original problem of the steering column that requires the 2. 7 turn-to-lock. Back in 1890, there was no variable way of doing it, so here we are. Everyone getting their license asked why it requires 3 turns to lock but we all have to just get used to it. The same will apply to this system if it ever becomes mainstream in the future.
Either Lexus will set a precedent and our grandkids will have to get used to this system, or they don't, and everybody still turns the wheel 3 times lock to lock.

Lexus is the guy at the dealership wearing a polo shirt, square toe shoes and khakis
Unimpressive, uninspiring, sedated, bland
Attempting to be some kind of formal and miserably failing at it. while other people wear actual fitted suits, skinny ties and double-monk strap loafers

UGH! This is going to be a godsend for auto repair shops to fix all the fender benders and the aftermarket industry to undo this mess.
