Episode four of the Autocar vodcast, Middle-Aged Tread, finds Matt Prior and James Disdale behind the wheel of one of the most enduring cars on the planet, the Morgan Plus Four. Morgan's archetypal sports car has been through many iterations in its life but tries to do the same as it ever did: charm and entertain, while looking like the kind of classic sports car you'd hand on to your children. But how good is the latest 2024 variant Is it an old-fashioned immediate classic or does it have some moves beneath its pretty bodywork Prior and Disdale discuss. I think it looks great. Richard Hammond made me like these cause he drove one in a documentary of his in search of the holy grail. then even appeared in Top Gear. And oh one that got flooded not long ago. Gotta love the Morgans tho it seems like they are cursed in a way.

Your discussion about the gearbox options was interesting. I visited the Morgan factory on Wednesday and was surprised to learn that whilst the manual cars are most popular for test drives, 80% of paying customers now choose the automatic option.

On the Golf with the 2L 8v, I think you mean the BRM - Brian Rickets Motorsport conversion He did the engine mods for GTi Engineering cars. I had a BRM Campaign, it was very special!

Doesn’t sound as good as an old Rover V8, but fast enough and very economical. Does it still use leaf springs at the back
