Nice job Mr. O!
I built my first fox body way back in 84. It was an 81 Capri RS and I put a 5. 0L in it with a top loader. It was fast with the tall gears. I did lots of modifications to it. Lowered the suspension, Kamei ground effects package, dual exhaust.
I was the pioneer of these cars.
It was a solid build. I was killing ZR1’s and Grand Nationals all day.
Back then there wasn’t much of any aftermarket parts for Ford. It took real life engineering to go fast.
Not like the Chevy boys that had everything under the sun for them.
I did so many of these, I could do it in. My sleep. lol!
Keep up the great work!
Oh, you look good behind the wheel. Lol!

I can't believe you did all that work- and left the original clutch cable in there. That's such a weak spot on these cars and a frequent replacement. That's like rebuilding an engine and leaving the original spark plugs in it. Oh well, he'll be back soon enough when it breaks in a few months. As for the Pro 5. 0 shifter -it's an aftermarket replacement that's superior to a Hurst and quite pricey. They're very good and offer crisp short shifts and better accuracy. Don't get me wrong-I think you're an amazing technician, but I don't claim to understand your thought process sometimes.

Side topic - when did the SMA shirts get a pocket I was disappointed that my original SMA tee from a few years ago didn't have one. I even seem to remember Eric apologizing for the lack of a pocket and saying something like, What do you call a shirt without a pocket Answer: A rag!
I checked the SMA merch page and the displays of the shirts still don't have a pocket. But the tee Eric has on obviously has one. Have the tees been updated Do the long sleeve tees also have a pocket If so, I need to order one, and put the old one in the rag pile!

Awesome job! You are absolutely right to lightly lube the splines on the drive snout with a film coating of grease, in fact its not a bad idea to put a blob of sticky wheel bearing grease into the pilot bearings wiith your pinkie finger to lube them and help hold them in place similar to the needle bearings in the bearing cups when putting together universal driveshaft joints. Some say don't lube in fear of grease getting onto the clutch surfaces but as long as you do not get carried away and overlube its not a problem.

Good job SMA, reminded me when I did my Firebird/Trans Am with the big 5. 7 LS1. Did mine 3 or 4 times. My problem was I went to this place called Auto-something and saw they had a lifetime warranty clutch. It's gotta be good if it has a lifetime warranty, RIGHT Boy was I wrong on that. Pressure plate was absolutely garbage, only lasting 8 or 10 months. Finally broke down and bought a Monster clutch. Haven't had a problem since, can give it all the beans!

I had an 86 Mustang GT 5. 0 H. O. 5 speed, 3. 08 limited slip rear and it would scoot and spin the tires easily. It sounded great with some aftermarket mufflers too. But with only 230 hp, which at the time wasn't bad. But, compared to my 2014 Ford Escape with a 2. 0 Ecoboost that puts out around the same 230 hp, it would walk all over that 5. 0 in a drag race, but would probably fall short on top speed compared to the 5. 0.

Great videos Mr. O. That guide pin idea would be a life saver for the guy doing the job on the garage floor. Gonna use me some of that SMA knowledge to find out what's killing coms in my 2004 F350. She runs great and the frame is solid. Didn't know about the comms until I hooked up that Autel to bleed the brakes after changing the lines. Wish me luck because the mice probably played a part.

My Dad and I dropped a 455 engine and 400 turbo out of a 1972 Oldsmobile 9 passenger station wagon into a 1974 Chevy Spirit of America Impala back in the mid 1980's. I ran it with open headers back in my teen years. Every time I rev that engine all you could hear was Make America Great Again And that Tune from Foreigner Rev on the Redline

Everything in Service data has to be correct. It's like the government or something. I read it on the internet and service data and the internet are never wrong. I still don't know why Eric lets commentators live rent free in his head. Every video there's something about what folks say in the comments. That's how I know he cares about da people.

It is funny how technology changes. The new 5. 0 makes 480HP to this one's 200, lol. It's a shame when people straight pipe them though, they have zero fidelity at that point. Mine has an actual exhaust and at least in my opinion sounds great. With that said. these old 5. 0's are almost unbeatable with the sound they produce. So damn good.

I once converted a Ford 26m from automatic to manual transmission in a gravel driveway when stationed in Germany because an automatic was a rare beast there and prohibitively expensive. My landlord thought l was nuts but it worked, after that he was impressed, l drove it for 2 years and still sold it for a profit.

The previous owner of my Civic did not believe in using the clutch to shift. What a nice guy. The synchros were so warn that 5 speed stick was actually a 4 speed as it would not stay in 5th by the time I sold it 30k miles later. Thanks for another entertaining and educational video!

I have changed many a Muncie 4 speed laying on my back lifting up and have somebody push the clutch pedal so it would go in the pilot bearing and then hurry and put the 4 bolts in. The only reason was it was behind a 402 bb Chevy in a 3/4 ton pickup. Ah the good old days.

When I was in my 20's, I laid on the floor with a bwT85 od trans, cast-iron, on my chest and stuff it in my 59 Ford, after some teeth fell of the cluster and 2nd gear. I have 4 of those cluster gears that the teeth fell off of.

Loved this video. I own a 94 convertible. I have updated the suspension, have big brakes to put on along with 18in wheels. Can't wait to finish it. So fun to drive. Wish you had more older cars to work on. Keep up the great work.

Did we ever figure out exactly what was wrong with the old assembly Based on the symptoms it sounded like something was broken/binding in the pressure plate assembly preventing it from being levered off/releasing properly

My engineering professor Wagyu University in Japan told me that sesame seed oil or avocado oil is best used on shaft splines. Or was that the Spider Roll I don't know it was a couple years ago, and he wanted extra wasabi.
