The second fuel pump in my chevy melted the top of the fuel pump. it was all gooey looking. i think i mighta taken a picture of it when the mechanic showed me it. and i kept my fuse box 450. 00 and it really just seemed like the contacts needed de greenified for the fuel pump and alternator. still find it so odd that a couple contacts had green and not all. regardless im becoming a pro at changing lightbulbs. cuz they always be blowing my storytime reminds me that i gotta replace my plate lamp bulb eh. that car was so odd tho the rusty stuff then non rusty stuff makes me wonder if it was a flood vehicle or wrecked at sometime especially seeing as that the airbag light dont work hopefully the owner didnt get a missing airbag used vehicle.

Many European crap cars, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen use plastic tanks, with plastic lock rings, with O rings that swell when you srip out the sender/fuel pump, then the nut is an arse to start, top diagnostic methods Eric, I remember getting a work colleague in the 90's to blow down a tank with an air line trying to bleed a Ford transit diesel fuel system as it would not prime fuel up, he blew, fuel came out of the bleed valve, I closed the bleed nipple, told him to stop, and he got a blowback bath of smelly diesel, he had to go home and get changed

Greetings from enchanting Long Island. The money light came on in my 03 Civic. Also an EVAP code. My local guy couldn’t find the cause and practically rebuilt my EVAP system. I ended up bringing the car to Honda. My canister was shot. So Honda fixed it and only charged me a kidney. I went back to my local guy to pay him for the work he did. He wouldn’t take any money because he didn’t fix it.

Hey Eric,
As a matter of fact, Australian/NZ Falcon derivatives from 1988 used the giant plastic threaded ring, plastic tank, and (eventually) used a plastic pump. The EU Ford products also use all plastic.
You’re right though, those plastic rings are a real PITA, apart from the X-threading issue, unscrewing them can be a struggle even with the correct tooling.
Love your work

Right with God before you do it because it might explode. LOL
Seems like I remember others using the threaded hold down. Pretty sure Mitsubishi did for several years. Those threads were a mother to align and not cross thread. I guess they had to quit using that design because it worked to good. Like a lot of other good designs, the greed for the almighty dollar squashed it.

So Mr. O. in the current world we live in and the terrible aftermarket parts we receive, is there any way to try to hack this repair I mean, you're forced to condemn a perfectly good fuel pump for a real shot in the dark if you don't get the OEM part. Any kind of sealant or something you could throw at it and see if you can slow down that leak enough to turn the light out

Brand new Ford- 7000 miles, Gets an EVAP leak. Took the dealer 3 times, first time literally returned the car even with the CEL on. Simple line or something at the end. I should have driven 700 miles to NY and just had this guy diagnose it and fixed it for 30 min. Either you make it look very simple. or most shops are idiots.

I seem to remember doing a newer Volvo wagon that had a plastic/composite lockring on the fuel pump. And surprise! It required a special tool to unscrew it. And you had to take the rear seats and a bunch of other stuff out to get the pump out, since it was actually in 2 connected parts, one under each rear seat. Oh, joys.

I'm confused. Am I missing some joke here. Why would harbor freight give you a free smoke machine And why would that free machine have anything to do with the FTC or FCC. I don't remember which one you said. But I'm missing something cuz that doesn't make sense. I watch every new show. I don't get it.

I appreciate you naming the devices that you use for testing. As a DIYer whose Snap-On Microscan is beyond its freshness date, I am looking for a new diagnostic device, contemplating the Autel MS 906Pro-TS. It is a little pricey, but when you consider the cost of going to a shop.

Call me weird but at 6: 59 when you showed the Red Easy Connect dragging your hand under the box. I immediately thought of John Candy in Trains, Planes, and Automobiles trying to bribe the Motel Manager with Casio watches instead of hard cash for a room. Great film by the way.

Thank you so much for this, it ws so instructive (I have a Kia. I didn't know you had to move the dead bodies to get at the pump (it's not in the manual you see. I used to leave them there and go at it fron underneath. Now I'm educayteded
PS, Mr Wiggly says Hi to Luna

Autozone said I needed a wiper motor. When I changed a battery in a Ford Escape SE, failure to attachment the second cow to the frame. Wiper would not work. When home an install the 2 cow and clips and to the frame. Wipers worked after that. Great video Eric O 19: 37

BMW uses an all plastic design. At least it was the case when I had to replace the fuelpump on my E39 back in the day. It had a big chunky plastic lock ring. If I remember correctly, BMW has a special tool for opening it, but it's not too hard to get it opened without it.

I'd be careful giving Chrysler too much credit when all they're doing is what they're infamous for: substituting a plastic part for one that's normally metal. The Pentastar 3. 6 oil coolers and thermostat housings are just a couple of examples that come to mind.

That 1999 RAM didn't hit the UEL or the LEL and thus didn't explode the gas tank. [UEL = Upper Explosive Limit] [LEL = Lower Explosive Limit]
Anywhere in between these two and it wouldn't have needed a new fuel pump. It would have needed a new RAM.

Most of EU cars has all plastic fuel tank there is some odd balls ofcorse to make the rule true.
And for some reason Ford is the one that wants you to drop the tank with only hole for the wire harness or the hole is half unit of the side; D

About the plastic tank with plastic pump with plastic locking ring, my Volvos are like that! Normally all 850, S70, V70 from 93 to 00 should be that way. I also think my Saturn SL2 has that setup, but without the access hole under the back seat -_-'

Had a 17 charger in the shop for a complaint of a fuel smell. There’s was a hole burnt into the primary fuel pump module. On those, the pumps are under the rear seat. Thankfully, no fire. Chrysler has switched to metal rings on the late models.
