I just had a similar situation as you Eric. Customer wanted me to replace alternator on 2001 Subaru which I did, and the new alternator charges perfectly and I had to charge battery overnight as it was spanked. Checked battery to make sure it wasn't a dead cell then installed it checked the charging system and everything was working fine Alternator at 14. 1 volts. . Customer let the car sit over the weekend and now it won't start. Checked battery again and it was at 1. 8 volts. So it looks like a parasitic draw. So I left it up to the customer as she said AAA installed the battery and she thinks that's the problem, but it's not my call. I'm not going to troubleshoot the draw for free as it's my business also.

Hey Eric! Need your opinion on something. I currently have a 2001 Toyota 4Runner SR5 which is still going strong, but at some point, even undercoating every winter, I know it'll be time to junk 'er. She still looks like she's got plenty of life, but when it does happen I want to be ready to buy something else. If I can afford it, I'll definitely go with a 5th gen 4Runner. I also had a Ford Explorer in mind. I'm normally not a Ford guy, but I heard the Explorers aren't bad at all. What are your thoughts on the Ford Explorer Any particular years to avoid

Yup, you do what you are paid to do. Wise words to live by. On computers I have done a little more that what I was paid to do, those things end up biting you in the rear quarters. For example can't print, you download a current driver from the internet. While downloading, you notice internet is running a little slow, check the cache, has several months worth of cache. There is a temptation to clear it, because that is what you'd do on your personal pc. Just fix the print driver, then ask customer if they want more work done or not.

I am tired of working on junk and understand why not may way to learn real troubleshooting and repair work, as nobody want sot pay you for twelve hours/days/weeks/months/years or endless repairs(yeah) the whole industry of all is screwed. but my foot and mind is deeply kicking them all back to the curb.
be useful, do right and prosper. be an fool/tool and clown around, lose and et paid/treated like an bad clown!

When I had my RV and mobile home repair business, sometimes I would give the customer a little extra like maybe adjusting a cabinet latch for a cabinet that I had to access plumbing.
If it was a 10 or 15 minute repair I would give it to them no extra charge and come out looking like a hero.
But, yeah if the extras start you going down the rabbit hole, I'd tell them that was outside the scope of the original repair, extra and up to them if they wanted me to continue.

I drove these 2006-2013 Impalas as Taxis and they are Junk, The Front Hub Assemblies failed leaving you stranded and Transmissions Failed after Fluid and Filter Service as well as camshaft snapping in Half on the Weak 3400 Motors somehow they had worse gas mileage than the 3800 Engine that was in the Eighth Generation 2000-2005 Impalas which was a great engine, and very Fast from 0 to 60 MPH GM took a big step backwards with this Ninth Generation Impala.

I wish the dealers thought like you the last time and I mean last time ever I took my truck to dealer for inspection I asked them to see if the water pump was leaking if it was I wanted it warranted. they look it wasn't leaking they proceed to pressure test and find a leak at the degas quick connect and when I refuse the repair they charge 120$ diagnostic fees I fought for 15 minutes and they only ever lower the fee by 50% never again.

South Main Auto is just following auto repair protocol. Make the diagnosis, give the estimate and stay in the narrow parameters. Now in the medical field its completely different, if you go in for a Bypass, the Surgeon will not leave the tumor he spotted, although they may tow you to another hospital. Those estimates of course must be approved by some guy with a suit and tie in another state working for a insurance company.

I went to a dermatologist for a skin cancer on my back, a procedure mostly covered by insurance. He surprised me by squirting liquid nitrogen on a brown spot (harmless) on my cheek, for which he charged me $100, not covered by insurance.

I thought GM BCMs couldn't replace and program that once programmed one time that was it. Learned something with this video. The only other thing I would add is crank variation relearn is important for accurate misfire diagnostics. I've seen doing that make a false misfire reading go away. And Wilbert's should have some golf carts for you to use in their yard.

Eric, walking down a row at Wilbert's eyeing. the treasures quiescently rusting there, I used to work on that one. This one looks familiar. I think I fixed that one a couple of times. This one here used to belong to a buddy of mine. I dunno. Maybe time to change his signature sign off to Remember, if I can't fix it, nobody can. Love ya Eric O.

We desperately need highly organized automotive recycling yards like that in New Jersey!
I don’t know why what are yours are terribly disorganized with cars or randomly all over the place laying in mud. They also stay there after being completely boned out depending on the price of steel I’m guessing. .

I am always surprised that once a car or truck passes the ten year old mark, lots of parts are not available from a dealer. So you're stuck with aftermarket junk. After watching these videos, often the junkyard is a dark better option. I'm an old man still learning from Eric O. - Thanks

Sometimes all I need help with is getting past the blockade. Once that happens, I can generally take it from there. If I could diagnose and fix a misfire, I’d rather spend my money outside of having someone do it for me. Unless of course, it was a royal pain in the butt.

I used to see bcm failures on the Holden Cruze ( similar looking bcm ) and sometimes it seemed to be related to a failure in the boot latch. Car comes in, dead bcm. Replace, program and configure. Then the boot won't open Replace boot actuator and never see the car again.

Spoke with the customer and he just wanted it to run. He said he will take care of the wiring and the misfire. Just didn't have the tools to figure out why it wouldn't run. Close the hood, pull it out and see you guys on the next one!

Nice fix. One of our pick n pulls is set up like Wilberts except ours doesn't leave any tires or rims on the cars. They sell those separately inside if they are any good. They also use old steel wheels welded together to mount the vehicles on.

Pleasantly surprised not to hear either the air door. Or the heat door actuators not going clickety click click click. After I repaired my air door actuator. I unplugged it. Heat door was easy to get to. Having a single zone a/c helps a bunch
