Replace: Dodge Stratus Front Wheel Bearings / Hub Assemblies

I bring you along as I replace the front hubs on a 2000 Dodge Stratus. Please Murray: Really nice to see a mechanic that has the knowledge and takes the extra care to do a first-rate job! However without a video like this, most customers would not realize there can be a difference between the SAME job being done by DIFFERENT mechanics. If you deal with a small shop, you may get an opportunity to actually talk with them beforehand to get a sense of their knowledge and the care they take. With a big shop, really hard to know the quality and thoroughness of the work being done behind closed doors. Also really appreciate the extra work being done to make other parts last longer, or come apart easier down the road.

Thanks for the great video! I just ordered a wheel hub straight from the USA. Looks like it's not going to be a tough job to replace it. I love it when you do all those unnecessary cleaning and greasing, i've rarely seen anyone or any shop to do those kinds of little bit of extra work (for example the brake greasing) that eventually do a lot of good to your ride.

Eric you can purchase the scotch brite 2 & 3 inch wheels from Empire Abrasives. They require a 2 or 3 inch mandrel. They are much cheaper than what you paid for the one on the video on 2000 Dodge Stratus. Lots of good info on the web site. One outlet in N Y. Thanks for the videos. Joe Carter

Home Depot sells large bendy tie things to hold calipers. They come in multiple colors, covered in a rugged rubber.
I've had a few for many years, and while I'm just a home gamer, they have held up well.

It is strange to see a regular (non performance targeted) auto repair shop do such good work. I've had bad experiences enough times in different cities and cars that I do everything myself.

hey MR O, Long time watcher here. Just curious as I'm learning and watching, typical repairs seem to be ball joints/control arms, struts, brakes. And what else do you see on a constant basis?

Eric and everyone else,
What's your experience like storing mixed ATF/acetone in a container over time? Heard a lot of stories about the mixture dissolving plastic/metal containers.

reply

Save some dollars. maybe?
ATF is mostly refined mineral oil.
And we most likely dont need the additives for penetrating oil.
Let us know if you give it a try.
