Chevy Truck Engine - Remove & Replace Part IV Bill: I never saw you tighten the fan blade. this video has been invaluable to me as we just recently had a short block put in my truck, same as this truck, 2000. The original engine had 450000 miles on it and had developed a knock which no mechanics in my town could identify. So, 10000 miles on new engine and I'm telling my boss this engine just doesn't have the get up and go my old engine had. Well, I started having electrical problems. The windows wouldn't roll up and down, the radio would turn on and off by itself, gas gauge would lock on empty, security light would turn red to a low voltage condition and numerous other things. I take It to our crusty old mechanic, he brings out the batt. tester and tells me theres nothing wrong with my batt. or alt. ,they are fine and he has done all he knows to do. I should have hit you tube first but my pride got in the way, kind of like yours did when 14 different people told you to take off the intake manifold and make life easier! I digress! I put a jumper cable on the ground lug on the batt. , then connected it to the chassis with it running, no difference, then to the engine, no difference, then to the firewall and all my problems disappeared. This is when I noticed the braided ground wire hanging from the firewall. I hooked it to the mounting bolt behind the battery jumpoff and voila, all my wierd problems solved. It wasn't until I saw the second video in this series that I realized where it was supposed to hookup. I will never be able to attach it back there so I hope I don't create a ground loop. The old jumper cable trick is the way to go when you have an open ground. I enjoy your videos.

Eric O. Please read. Great videos. I followed this video set to duplicate this repair on my 02 silverado. Everything went very well and the truck runs. It does now have a p0300 random missfire code tho. And a rough idle and smells like gas when running. I used the original motor that came out of the truck but I had it professionally rebuilt by a local shop. Ive checked for spark (it does have it on all 8 cylinders. I have also replaced a partially damaged 02 sensor which my extension rubbed too hard against while mounting the exhaust bolts on the driver side. Any advice would be appreciated. Should i smoke test the intake? Idk. Please help.

I know this is an ancient set of videos but. if you are still doing these swaps: They make a tool that you can put on your cherry picker. It is basically a piece of all thread in a bar with a crank. It has two chains on the front and back. It hangs in the middle from your picker mount and allows you to change the pitch of the engine as you are extracting or dropping in.
Remember kicking myself in the ass for not getting one before. Works especially great if you are doing the engine tranny at the same time. but also makes mating the engine to the tranny a snap.

Nice work Eric and FWIW, I agree on the pressure washer / beauty police stuff. Its a half worn out 18 year old Chevy pickup with rotten brake lines and electrical issues fer cryin in a bucket. Who cares if the engine is shiny. Its not headed for Barrett-Jackson.
Besides, pressure washer cause way more problems than they solve with washer forced into bearings and electrical connectors etc.
Both Hannah and Mrs. O are terrific - theyre troopers and you are lucky to have them.

Nice job Eric, so much easier in a Shop. For some real fun, try doing it in your gravel driveway, BTDT. I not only swapped out engines, but swapped out Trans also, converted from an Auto Trans to a 4 speed Manual with Transfer Case. Installed new Clutch and everything associated. Fabricated a new 2-piece Driveline complete with cross-member and Carrier Bearing. -- < Doc >.

Jus barely stumbled across this series, luv the smell of brake cleaner in the morning, anyway, did intake manifold and oil pan on similar truck, loads of fun wiggling the front axle out with out it falling on u, and outside to boot, envious of anyone with enclosed shop to work on vehicles, job took me a whole week, weather was not cooperating.

What is it with 2002 1500 owners? Why do they gotta mess with the headlights, and do a LOUSY job? I mean, what's up with that? I bought a used 1500, and it had some sort of flourescent thing, and they failed on the ground wires. Cost to get it diagnosed and fixed. Thanks for finding and fixing it on this one.

Love this four part series. I own a 2004 silverado so I watched this changeover series from start to finish. Very educational! Biggest challenge I think, for someone who has not swapped engines before, is keeping track of where everything is re-connected.

Hi,
I have a 1999 SIerra 1500 with a 5. 3 in it. It died on me today with 425, 000 miles on it. I know where I can get a 4. 8 reasonable. Should it fit without doing any modifications. I heard the only difference is the pistons

I watched all 4 and appreciate the heads up on some items. I'm about to install a new long block in my Suburban and now I'm all pumped up. well, a little. I'll have to make some prepairations. Thanks for your effort on our part.
