what I'm not understanding with your syringe demonstration is, How can the pressure leak out through the exhaust valve during TDC Compression, but not allow a small amount of air back in during the power stroke? Because my logic sees it as if the exhaust valve is leaking, it should leak during both events. I understand perhaps the valve could be worn/misadjusted on the camshaft. However, the way I'm understanding this is the exhaust valve should leak air during both compression and the power stroke.

I can't find a follow up video to this and previous diagnosis video. Did Eric O ever pull the head on that engine? What did he find when/if he did?
With an issue like that is it possible that the valves on the front bank have a carbon build up that could be dealt with by one of the various treatments with one of the various fuel cleaners? If yes how do we know that without either trying a treatment or pulling the head?

Great Video! Cam/valve specs again would be helpful to identify what's going on and where the problem lies. Cool theory/practical-actual event! Scopes don't lie but they identify! Valve adjustments add to the mix, but in this case the smoke test proved it. Great to have all these diagnostic aids(scope, smoke, specs, leak down test, borescope) It sure helps me understand this stuff.

Sir I have one doubt, anyway if there is an exhaust leak it should be in all over the process right?
So if air escapes through the leak during compression then that air should come again via that leak simultaneously as the pressure drops below the atm pressure
Then how the cylinder holds vaccum till the exhaust valve open even under the leaking circumstances.

He's a good teacher. I have a 2004 Honda Accord 4 cyl(i-VETC 2. 4 DOHC SULEV. The spark plugs have about 50, 000 miles on them and the maintenance required light is constant. I plan to change the plugs and the upstream O2 sensor. Although the car has only 118, 000 miles and runs perfectly, I'm trying to figure what's going to bite me in the butt.

Loved this very simple explanation of such a complex diagnostic. These new tests using waveforms anymore are so confusing. Everything on vehicles anymore are so expensive to diagnose (scan tools, oscilloscope, subscriptions to wiring diagram pages etc) pricey, confusing and difficult now. Thanks again for this!

And people wonder why a good mechanic cost so much. Watch this and it will click. There's so many technicalities on new engines. You explained it so well I kinda understand but I'm still clueless. I try and do as much work as I can myself but I couldn't do this on my own. Great video!
