After 170, 000 miles, I'd think anyone would be okay with replacing those rear shocks regardless if they still seemed good. Going with the Quick struts/kit up front seems to be the best way to go knowing there's no extra labor involved which simply pays for the small price increase to have new springs and that warranty. Monroe is good about their warranties on shocks. I've had two claims with them on lifetime warranty parts and even though for a DIY and the shipping process taking a few days or so, they pay for return shipping as well. KYB also has some good product for OE jobs.

The ATF / acetone is a stroke of (smelly) genius, I picked up that tip from you in one of your earlier videos. It creeps, it softens, it penetrates, it does stuff.
Have you ever found that it can eat up rubber seals? I don't know if I put too much acetone in my mix but after mixing it up in a pump sprayer, I went to use it again 2 weeks later and it would not build pressure. Upon inspection I found the rubber o-rings had split due to rapid decay (it was a brand-new sprayer, bought the same day I mixed the witches' brew. Thoughts?

To Eric O, this video was as you might say a little bit routine but, you make it entertaining, the surprise visit by the missus added to the fun. I'm watching all the way through. Even routine there are moments to learn something. Like your measurements for doing the tie rod end. I had thought if I ever did one of those I would put a mark on the rod that the tie rod goes on to. This makes more sense. So even routine has an opportunity to learn and teach. Another great video

most indipendant shops are run by excellent self employed self taught mechanics. I discovered hydraulic oil and acetone 50/50 mix, quite a while ago. I fill up an empty kitchen surface sprayer bottle. Mechanicing on radio control model helicopters sharpens up anyone's mechanicing skills.

147k miles on my 02 escape gonna tackle struts and outer tierods plus read shocks.

Mr. O, you nerd to relocate to the south, therevis no snow, ice or salt to totally corrode nuts and bolts on the underside of cars, just a quivk spray od WD-40 and they come right off, you'd be lost. lol

The alignment adjustment is at the top strut plate you turn it in the strut tower thats what the notch on the top of the plate was four to show you the direction that the strut would be in
