I have a look at a 2007 Toyota Camry that was towed in with a crank, no start. It was a quick diagnosis that led us right to the problem. I didn't get the job to repair it because the option I gave the customer was a little to expensive. Either way

Thanks for doing this video. I am hoping you have the time to answer a quick question, please! I have a 1990 Volvo 760 GLE with the Peugeot V6 B280F engine. This car has two fuel pumps, the main pump is mounted under the car and another low pressure in-tank pump. Symptoms: The engine cranks, and runs at idle for 15 to 30 seconds then dies. If I crank it and try to maintain 2, 000 RPM, it dies in about 3 seconds. I suspect the problem is the in-tank pump, I just had a new one put in, but I think it was not installed correctly (maybe the fuel hose is loose or the power wires connected backwards. I theorize that, at 2, 000 RPM it's putting a great demand on the pump(s) that it cannot keep up with. What do you think? The mechanic also replaced the fuel pump relay, crank sensor and ignition switch. I have replaced the two engine computers, that handles Fuel and Ignition system management. I have heard from another source that it will run a little as long as the main pump is working. If I decide to replace the in-tank pump, this time I am doing it myself.

Hi guys, I had a short yesterday while wiring up some fog lights and now the car cranks strong but isnt starting. When I turn the car on/acc mode I do not hear any fuel pump noise so I am thinking its a relay.
Initially, ODB fuse and radio fuse were burnt but replaced but still no start.
I just can't seem to find where the proper relays are for the fuel tank and/or EFI relay to try and replace or test it.
I checked the owners manual but no mention of these relays and online I seem to find different answers on where these relays are located: I did test every fuse and relay I could find/access and ALL OF THEM tested fine. I am lost at this point and wondering if its Ecu?

Tsk Tsk. You fellows are unkind to Mr. Kilmer. I find him delightfully entertaining. Had I spent 50 + years as a mechanic, I would not be working outside without a hoist, exposed to the elements etc. Good thing he lives in Texas & not Alberta! I am not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination, but I do keep busy keeping combines, swathers, tractors, air drill s etc going when some of the Ag dealers can't. I always get a kick when farmers buy a DMM or a scope so they can fix problems themselves. I profession is/was communications radio & radar tech. I laugh when people ask me where I went to school to learn how to fix ag eqpt. Good work as usual Mr. O

My 86 camry won't start. I don't think it's the fuel pump because I loosened the bolt on top of filter and it spewed everywhere when turning over. But the cylinders are dry and getting spark so I don't know. Is there a way to test the fuel pressure regulator? It's not a cheap part.

This customer was an idiot. You could've blindly guessed that it was a Bad fuel pump. It would've been smarter for him to just go for it and change it rather than pay for towing twice and a diagnosis. If you're gonna be a cheap bastard you need to take risks.

My Camry has trouble starting occasionally like the fuel pump is out but after 2-5 trys it cuts on. Starts out very low on idle but then gets up to regular. Then I wont have trouble starting again for another months or so. is that signs of fuel pump going out?

Yes they do. He never said they never break. Alot less than other cars is the point. And at185, 000 miles yet to boot. Sounds good to me. I have an actual Toyota Yaris (not Mazda 2) and at 150, 000 miles it has only had an alternator replaced.

Man, did I throw my name away with an Opel Corsa! Compete engine overhaul, crank but no start. After hours and hours of getting the same short run on alternate fuel, I found I was using the gas tank key. that has no immobiliser thingamabob in it.

So bounce It all around Town and then tell the guy that thoroughly and professionally diagnosed and tested the situation that he can pound sand. He's going to let his big buddy finish off what he wasn't smart enough to do to begin with.

Amazing. Eric diags the car and could've done a good job on the repair quickly. Bet owner will be surprised if he thinks to add up cost of two tows, pump from whatever source, lost time of use while car is down and what his buddy charges.
