Best steering suspension parts made come from Moog. With that Mind I was trying to decide which brand of Strut assemble for the front and rear to purchase. I am more of Highway road traveling guy in a 4x4 Ford Explorer with the Big 4. 0 V - 6 Engine. My dilemma. I sure do like Monroe and Moog. I wanted Both LOL can't do that. I flipped a Coin Heads for Monroe Tails for Moog. Darn it Heads Monroe Strut assembly won. I saved 50 bucks with the Monroe and I gave up the problem solvers of Moog. I feel Guilty and happy I saved 50 bucks. Darn it a Man can't win in he auto parts shopping of truck and car repairs. I like Napa but I seek out the brands I trust. Fan belts and hoses, Gates or Dayco. Gates is a loser they are not the top quality they use to be. I was so disappointed with Gates serpentine belt that did not last or I was given the wrong one for my engine. It drove me up the wall. Alright we have a New Belt had to be the idler I said replaced that, then the Idler tensioner. I called the part store to see if I had the correct Belt. Yes sir that's the belt number for your car. It's junk like dorman. Serpentine belt from Dayco perfect fit. Go figure

It's a packed episode! You get Mr. O. turning a wrench the wrong way, Mrs. O. in the shop, innuendos about putting it in, taking it out, and making sure it goes in straight ( that's what she said! , comparing NAPA to Dorman (Dorman: Hold my beer, I'm gonna make the part even cheaper and worse, AND changing a ball joint on a Hondoo Odyssey! Now I don't feel so bad turning a wrench the wrong way when I'm 45 degrees to the wrong side of reality and upside down, trying to do something I probably shouldn't even try doing. BUT WAIT! You also get Mr. O. speaking fake Japanese, and asking NAPA NOT to become a sponsor! All this on a Saturday? Amazing! :)

I did this job on my 04 a while back. Pro tip, if you're replacing the whole control arm (easier for the regular home mechanic) and you cannot get the ball joint off the knuckle, take a spindle socket to get the driveshaft out of the way, rest the knuckle on a jack, and give that darn ball joint your all with your favorite hammer. Eventually it'll come out.
I had to do this because the ball joint came out of its socket on the control arm and was very stuck to the knuckle.

Funny you should mention Mevotech parts, I happen to think they are made in the same factory, to similar specs as Moog parts, just with different branding/coatings/etc. I'm pretty sure they are a design/engineering firm and they have Chinese parts factories make the parts for them for redistribution worldwide. To be honest with you, from what I've seen, I think they look like good products and they keep pretty tight quality control on what comes out of those factories.

Watching SMA brings me back to my early teen years, early 60's, spending many Saturdays hanging out my local Sunoco service garage. Mike was the owner and one hell of a nice guy, just like Eric O. Eventually he had me open up the station on Sundays alone to pump gas and do oil changes and grease jobs on Saturdays with him being there. I learned a lot that has stayed with me throughout my life.

SMA, I use Anti-Seize or Grease when installing ball joints on my own Jeep & Camaro's. Is that wrong? I live in PA. & fight rust as you do. Doing Rockers on Jeep 97 Grand before Inspection in Oct. Putting on Rectangular tubing on instead of origin type rockers, never tried it before but there's a lot of vids. on it. I know that will be an ADVENTURE for me for sure. THANKS FOR THE VIDS. SIR.

I wish all manufacturers would stick to using castle nuts and not the self locking nuts with the nylon inserts. On some jobs you need to get a new self locking nut which I don't always have access to, makes the job more difficult. If it's a castle nut, it's easier. They use self locking because it's easier going down an assembly line.

4: 49 funny this comes up, i just did the rare ball joint job at the honda dealership on a 07 element yesterday(you cant get just the ball joint, to get a honda ball joint you need to get the knuckle) and thats what the parts guys at the dealer gave me to put in it(saves the customer labor and an extra 300, thanks for the share!

I have the same ball joint setup on my 2010 Mazda CX-9 with the exception that the stud is held into the knuckle with a pinch bolt rather than a nut on the top. It seems like a very reasonable design and replacing ball joints is a pretty straightforward job. I can t imagine having a Subaru with those horrendous ball joints.
