How do you proceed with this Stuff Eric?
You get the car from another shop and so the shop is you customer. Are you listed anywhere for the owner of the car? Or is it all just Service to the real customer? Do you talk to the shops and give them these hints or are you just like: Yep, job done, here's your bill, kthxbye?
I am no mechanic - I am just a customer that owns a car. What I find SO damn disturbing is that so many botch-jobs you get from other shops take the money from the customer and they seemingly don't even question that.
Like you said - when four o2 Sensors quit working - the customer don't know jack. Brings it in and the shop says: Yep we need these parts. I as a customer would seriously doubt that and question WHY it needs to happen. Just like I go to the doc and when he says: We need to amputate your leg you don't sit there and say: Alright, that's fine.
Please never stop what you're doing. I love that you teach non-mechanic folks like me some tricks and how to use my noggin.

I love the calibre of so many local mechanics
Well I cleared the codes on it, but the engine light keeps coming back on. Well I am all out of ideas. I better send this to a real mechanic quick before the customer works out I don't know what I am doing then Great so I charge the customer Eric O's rate, plus a few 100 for parts, plus 100 for my time, and that's one happy customer
I wonder if the customers will ever work out its cheaper to send it to you first, instead of the parts cannon garage, that then sends the car to you, and charges the customer for both?

Great video! I don't understand why, with all of these advanced circuits, sensors and motors, ground is bolted or screwed, unprotected, to components of the vehicle. Makes zero sense. They ought to have a buss bar that all grounds connect to, running front to back, AND IT SHOULD BE PROTECTED FROM CORROSION. All of the components are connected with weather proof connectors and then the grounds are left exposed. Guess what fails?

SO I assume(sic) that these other shops do the easy, obvious, burnt mark repairs and when it comes time to get out the logic-- they pass it on to you. What would happen if you just stopped working on other people's shortcomings? Would they tell the customer - Hey- Go to this Eric fella. This ajoba isa too a tougha for mea?
And you have not mentioned Mrs O's KIA? Is it running good or are the recalls getting old?

My bet on why all the parts where replaced, is the owner tried to fix it themselves. Then when the codes didn't go away, they called in eric. I see it all the time where a customer will have their brother, cousin, nephew what have you, work on it and they don't have the tools to properly read the codes other than autozone. Thats often the other shop they talk about.

It would have been interesting to see how you got up to that ground to R&R it. Like what tool did you use. I had to replace a stud on the outlet of an exhaust manifold today. Instead of removing the exhaust I just installed I set the new stud in and removed the locked up nuts on the stud with the old crows foot and extension routine.

When you get this many codes it is obligatory that you say, what we have here is a failure to communicate. Also, you didn't say it in this video but I've been meaning to tell you that I think Mrs. O has been lying to you about the definition of big. You might wish to seek clarification.

Another great video. I had two headlights go out at the same time, 30 years ago. Same thing a ground wire was broken from going up and down the e-brake ratchet in the center console. Two headlights later on a dark night I see a spark, and figure the entire thing out.

Why d I invest in tools to spray fluid film for people? I drove a 97 Wrangler and learned I would make spraying fluid film on the side.
