With rust everywhere in the old exhaust parts, it wouldn't be uncommon for a welder ground clamp connection to be bad, causing electrons to spray everywhere trying to find a route back to the transformer. I wonder if it would be wise to routinely disconnect nearby oxygen sensor wires before welding the exhaust? I like your idea to independently ground that wire, ha ha. If it works, it saves him a ton of money.

Hey Mr O I m sure I m not the only person who would rather have a video where you point the camera at the screen than no video because you don t have time to mess around.
I certainly appreciate the fact that you do take time to do videos from a working shop and a busy one at that.
keep up the great work

So we have welding machines at work where it will ground back through 115 outlets on the table ( power is for grinders ect) if it has a better path, say your work ground is poor or you forget it all together. Not a good scene. it will melt the cord, outlet ect. So I could see this happening.

I literally just finished welding a nut onto a broken exhaust manifold bolt for removal and I had attached the ground right next to it.
I was still a little nervous about the ECU, but it was fine.
Feel bad for the owner if the computer did in fact get fried because of the welding.

To play devil's advocate here, the path of least resistance for current flow between the ground clamp of the welder and the welding rod would NEVER run thru the ecm unless of course, they placed the welding ground clamp directly on the ecm.
(Wagging finger at Eric O)

13: 30 Please explain why dielectric grease is bad for electronic connections.
I though it was used on dissimilar metals such as the aluminum entrance panel wires to the brass bus in house electrical panels?

Interesting looks like a bad low reference seems like a bad pcm if you can drive it low and high then that seems like the pcm would also be working hmmm very intriguing Eric O SouthMainAutoRepairLLC

When does been easier to deepen the one wire set it aside and then check with the computer still hooked up the pen at the computer to see if I still had Bob s coming out of the computer

Those PCMS have a high failure rate especially after engine hot soak. Often use a heat gun to diagnose. Difficult to impossible to complete monitors with aftermarket sensors.
