The ice is unavoidable and very predictable. Using de-icers ditto. Building crap that you know will be used in it and not designing for it is criminal at the prices they are charging. Do you know what ships are made of? Do you know where they live their entire life? Did you know that sixty year old steel vessels are not that uncommon and still in service today. Talk about salt times a hundred! You ever hear of a ship builder telling a client that after five years and his ship rusted away that It's the salt. Don't think so. I live in Alaska and I can tell you after seven decades here that traffic is necessary for modern life, the best studded tires still will not get you around when the roads get nasty. A person would be a fool (or work a minimum wage job) not to have a full set but that does nothing to solve the corrosion problem created by the manufacturers. You are missing the target by venting on the drivers and saying nothing about the actual creators of the problem.

I as surprised that out didn't let the fluid just drain though with gravity first and then start the bleeding process?
Also did you check the rear brakes and also bleed them, as starting from the furthest bleeder ensures you get rid of all the air in the system?
Are you going to enlighten with detail about the front and rear brake circuits being independent of each other?
Again another opportunity to sell these customers some rust control spray in a can and they can do some preventative life saving maintenance on their cars

A question here. I read somewhere that the brake master cylinder contains two separate cylinder one for front and one for rear brakes so in a situation when one fails the car still has the other system operational. And i saw a little wall on the bottom of the brake fluid reservoir for separating the reservoir for those two brake cylinders when the fluid gets low on the reservoir.
After writing all that here's my question:
In this case did the rear brakes work or the Brake system completely failed and emptied all the fluid?

this happened with my ram 1500 on the way home from yearly inspection, went to pull up to back in my driveway and the pedal went to the floor. i do some work myself and other stuff or winter time i have a mechanic i trust, he felt crappy for missing it but a 13 inspection doesnt give a mechanic time to find everything possibly wrong with a car. i expressed what you did besides being puffed up it appeared fine, until it popped. i would only blame someone if it were plainly obvious at a glance. maines yearly inspection is a joke

Southern Idaho is full of extinct and dormant volcano's, and there's 100's of square miles of lava flows. Naturally. DOT says, Hey, those'll be GREAT for winter roads! '. So, while rust 'can' be an issue there, busted windshields and chipped paint are far more likely. My old Chevy Citation logged 70K miles between Boise and Rexburg through the years. Musta had 5 windshields in that sucker before it got t-boned by some drunk from Oregon.

This is why FIAT is known as Fix It Again Tony or Feeble Italian Attempt (at) Technology. You would think the DFMEA (Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) would have specifically called out rust on the fitting under the rubber cover/support. The engineers would have countermeasured that with stainless steel fitting or a more aggressive anti-rust coating. I guess the driving force was cost to save more money for gelato, right Mr. O?

To me, that looks like a stress relief for the hose, so it doesn't break due to material fatigue close to the fitting. Glad to see it's working so well!
I'm wondering if it would be worth it putting some penetrating/rust protection oil (like the undercarriage protection stuff) on it to prevent salty water soaking up to the fitting, or even just something like WD-40 to make it hygrophobic. Or would that make things worse?

Awesome! I have a couple customers with these vans. I will be checking them. Should be a recall in my opinion. Im sure the rubber serves as a strain relief, adding a built in failure. I see its the crimped part that failed. engineered to fail.
I thread a nut on bleeder, slip an o-ring on and snug it. vaccum pump to pull fluids. Once i get fluid, depress pedal and remove o ring and nut.

Double dipping is ok because Eric did it so we can do it lol.
I had a hose blow on a Mercedes a few years ago miles from home a quick trip to an auto parts picked up a brake pipe fitting some epoxy and I think it was a metal wiper pin, epoxy it in the fitting and fitted it to the abs unit that fed the broken line
It was a rear line behind the fuel tank, but it got me home
