Cadillac ATS 2. 5 Luxury: Engine Replacement - Part V Rob: This coming along nicely Eric. The only engines I replaced with second hand ones were cars from they early 1980's. No complex wiring harnesses & sensors to worry about back then. They were second hand Japanese import engines with between 20, 000km - 50, 000km depending on the era of vehicle. Japans emissions laws were so strict that the engines were replaced with new ones, not rebuilt so luck us in Australia as far as quality low mileage second hand engines go. They always came with I think 3 months warranty, maybe 6 months, though extended warranties were not a thing back then. I am sure they are available now.

WT heck are you wearing for boots! Clompin around sounds like Frankenstien boots. Get yaself some Redwings man. Softer sole, qiet, no kleets to hold mud, good on concrete! Wore them for many tears after Herman's went overseas.
O, Mrs O again! Make him some chicken soup or broth please and knock that cold outah him. Feed a cold, starve a fever!
OMGosh, Mrs O with the double entendres!

Two things: If it works, is it really a dumb idea? vicegripgarage
When your noggin cam in 'contact' with the control arm, I flinched. Good thing it missed that little button on top of your hat. Those things are there to let you know how much hair loss has occurred.
Hope you get to feeling better quickly.
Oops. that was three things.

Wow! For a 4 cylinder RWD engine swap, that s a TON of work! Last one I did (in my driveway, no lift) was a 2007 Tacoma 2. 7. I ll bet you spent more time with wiring harnesses and Christmas tree fasteners than I spent on the whole swap. I don t envy you having to do this job. Well done though as always! Thanks for taking us along.

RE: Stink on new stuff.
I bought a full length free standing mirror and they used so much formaldehyde on the masonite board backing I had to leave it outside for a week for the odour to dissipate. Leaving it in a closed room for a an hour or so caused me to just about pass out when entering the room.

Now the proof is in the pudding. What problems will be faced getting the new used engine into that cadi? And the most important part of all, after fluids have been drained, replaced, or topped off, will that engine run? Or will all the work you've done be for naught?

I had the same stink from the 44 tool chest from Hobo Freight. Comes from that chinesium rubber mat. The guys at work were pissed at me for the stink. Ended up sitting it in the sun outside for about a week and it still stunk.

I have that hobo freight cart and love it. Saves ya from working on the floor. Also good for getting things on and off the truck cause it reaches tailgate level on my F150. I think we will be seeing a lot of it in your shop.

back in the 50's G M engineers designed the caddy so that to replace a parking or turn signal lamp removing the BIG HEAVY CHROMED front bumper was required. I see they didn't change their serviceability criteria at all.

The dead motor looks cleaner than the new used motor. And Ray has no idea how good he has it. It has got to get pretty warm in the summer! And to be able to take out bolts with a battery powered tools!

I use a bigger 4000 lbs capacity table for similar work all the time. I work in R&D so often putting the same rear end or EV battery for example. in and out several times. Works a treat!

great series so far. for the future since I have only pulled one engine and that was in the early 80s, I didn't think to line up the paint/pen markings as a guide. hope you get to feeling better.

Love the nuts and bolts when it come to working on cars so this series is a real treat for me. Thanks for the great content and the great work you provided people in that small town.

If you would have knocked yourself on that control arm. I bet video would go viral and be on the news. Glad you are ok. Better check the control arm for damage.
