The worst thing about jobs like this, is not knowing the condition of the engine. It's the most sinking feeling starting one for the first time after spending days installing it, just to hear a knock, or rattle, if it even starts. The shop I worked at for awhile, our independent auto parts shop sold reman engines from a company called gopher motors. things were junk. It was not unusual to have a freshly installed engine never build oil pressure, have misfires, overheat. I got to where I would go over one with a fine tooth comb before even thinking of putting in. These were long blocks, with heads, valve covers, and oil pans already on, only needing intake, exhaust, and incidentals installed. Thank God they switched to jasper engines, they were a bit better

Great job! I am in Arkansas and love working on cars to, new and used without much if any rust. I have done some of the ford windstar vans in the manner you did the caddy. We had a strong steel flat table with wheels we used, worked great. But ours was homemade without the lift feature. We had forklifts or some other equipment to lift the engine and or transmission down on the bench or floor. Any way great job, and I could tell you really enjoyed working on a Rust Free car for a change! This is one of the very few videos that I have not seen you have to break out the smoke wrench on!

I have swapped 6 engines out in the back and side yard with a cherry picker. That lift is a marvel. Whoever thought to pull them out the bottom. Awesome. The most memorable was the Dodge D100 delivery van. You drop the transmission and pick it up the engine and pull it out the double doors on the side. Put the new engine in the some way. Now they are called creeper vans? No windows in the back. The A-team's van would count also. Being innocent is well innocent.

HarborFreight carts are great for any shop. I have had a few including two I got from grizzly tools I modified one by putting a quarter inch steel plate and raised it up on angle iron so it would be high enough for putting stuff on the milling machine in the machine shop I was working for and I was very upset that it was used by the criminals to steal my welding equipment and they enjoyed it so much they took both of them to

This gave me a clear understanding of why pro mechanics would rather do small jobs all day long compared to a marathon like this. In this case your bay was tied up for the better part of a week, and you might have generated a lot more income from many cars compared to only one. More risk, more annoying oversights, more fitment problems, and more chance of secondary damage to small parts that get in the way.

I think I said it in a previous video my guy but we had a custom table made to support 1500 lbs we drop the entire drivetrain all at once including the subframe. saves so much time. they are made to be pulled as a unit, good job as always though you got it done with skill and knowledge that a lit of folks don't posses not knocking you at all just telling you this table works for 99 percent of these jobs

What a great detailed series! Certainly not like the engine swaps I used to do back in the 70's & 80's. I can't even imagine what this job cost? We used to do small block Chevy's & Ford's swaps for 300 + parts way back. I sure am glad there are guys like you that are willing to do a job like this. I know I wouldn't begin to touch this one. Thanks Eric & Vanessa.

That's interesting that you didn't pull the engine from the top. Unless there isn't room.
I'll say it's nice to have a lift in this project.
You have a ton of hrs into this.
Good work in taking the time to do it right.
Sickness is going around. I was ill for 3 weeks now I feel better after 2 rounds of antibiotics.
Get well & be safe team.

Thank You sir for the great content! It's just such a shame that a Cadillac nowadays is simply a generic noisy junkbox like every other cheaply built car, that has heaps of engine and road noise. I must be too old. to me a Cadillac is supreme luxury and silence, not some noisy GDI junkheap. But, enjoy watching you as always Eric!

Thank you Eric. I don't like anyone to work on my vehicles if I can help it. I wouldn't think twice about you working on mine(except that you hate Chevy. even though they help pay your bills) It's too bad for the industry that bad / lazy / incompetents have contaminated it. You are a huge credit!

The engine vs. motor controversy would be simpler if General Motor became General Engine. Then you gotta convince BMW to go to BEW, never mind Ford Motor Company. What car to buy? Ask Eric what he rarely has to repair, buy that brand. Nice work on the engine swap.
