When NEW Parts Are Worse Than USED Parts! My 1992 Ford Aerostar van has my brain going All Joe Biden on it's self like C'mon Man Go you know the thing. Drove it about 30 mile round trip back to my house. Ole girl was running like a dream. come home and parked it and went on into my house. went out the next morning ' August 26 ' went to start it and all it would do is turn over. Changed the Crank sensor and hit the intake with a a shot of carb cleener and she fire up and run like a dream. Shut it off and started it like 4 different times. all good. went out the next day and all it will do is crank over

Good ole ChiNapa parts!
I learned on Dodge B350 vans to test the blower motor second after looking at the old glass type fuse first. In those vans, Dodge ran a 30 amp glass fuse and when the blower motor started over 22 to 25 amps it would bend the fuse metal inside the glass. Real talent to do that! New motor took 15 amps. New fuse was happy. So was the pigtail connector.
Then Dodge fixed the problem with An Authorized bypass relay for the high speed step of the blower motor.
Same 22 to 25 amp suckling motor, now it just heated the under rated relay contacts! But it fixed the problem they said. Till the motor quit. Change the motor and change the fuse. problem solved.
Good one Mr. O!

00: 37 - S'truth. Even disconnecting the bat'ry immediately before inspection will cause an inspection fail, at least in NJ, because the emmissions-related data will be erased. I had to disconnect my Honda Accord's battery the day before inspection due to a power seat problem. I even looked up and performed the driving cycle, but after waiting in the inspection line, I still failed due to insufficient data. Pro tip: I learned that if your CEL blinks twice (at least for this Honda) upon startup, it ain't ready.

I find it quite amusing that the designers of these systems use PWM to control a resistor which in turn limits the current going to the motor when, with just a little motor redesign, they could use PWM to directly control the current going to the motor. Although the motor would possibly be slightly more expensive they would save on the cost of the resistor. At the same time, because no power is wasted in the resistor the whole system would be more efficient and result in the likelihood of failure being lower.

It s getting to the point where all of your house brand parts house parts are likely coming out of the same Chinese factories with just a different box, and the factories have a 50/40/10 failure rate: half the parts they make are rejected before they even make it out of the factory, 40% either are rejects that slipped through quality control or fail within the first year or two of operation, and then you have the 10% of parts that are ACTUALLY good and will last for years without failure.

had a 2003 grand caravan ES(only two years dodge made equivalent to town and country was 2002 and 2003) and the blower started in the winter just operating full blast, it was excatly what you replaced but the one I removed looked like the one that worked for you and was replaced with the meat tenderizer which worked great(and i had to replace it in a -20 garage here in ontario which was not fun but it was better than driving around in -20 snowstorm here in ontario with the fan full blast

14: 30, yeah, been there! You made me LOL when I heard the tick of your finger on the blades - doesn't that smart! Didn't know you were into comedy, maybe its just me being able to relate. Anyway - draws 20-amps at full tilt, I assume it is lower when in-line with the 'resistor' (not so much anymore - I remember when they actually WERE resistors) - but still - what size conductors are those and what is the fuse rating I wonder?

My 92 Aeostar van is a Rust free Florida van. been a Florida van all it's life. i moved to west Virginia about 2 1/2 years ago but never driven it in the snow. in Florida we had no State inspections. but when i moved to West Virginia thwy have inspections. Good morning Mr Eric hope y'all have a great day, I just repaired an 05 Dodge truck, diesel, ECM threw codes for everything (low voltage) so the guy put 2 new batteries in 350 bucks, but nothing changed, took a look, needed new battery terminals plus grounds were beyond loose, repaired that, the professional battery shop installed the batteries, and did piss pour work, it is just horrible to think business could do such bad work

Some heater resistors have thermal fuses. A motor drawing too much current will take them out, sometimes in a matter of minutes, sometimes after a few hours. When the resistor is a ten minute job but the fan motor is a whole dashboard removal eight hour remove 60+ torx screws job and you don t know what the normal current draw for the fan is you always change the resistor first then learn how to replace the thermal fuse.

I have two vintage Land Rovers and I am running into this problem. Parts fail right out of hte box, don't fit or fail in a very short time. Sadly, One of the best suppliers of Landy parts went belly up last year (Bearmach) so the sourcing of good quality parts is getting harder. I have sourced several used parts for my wife's discovery and they worked but I can't help but wonder for how long,

UAW can go fly a kite, they helped cause inflation back when the big 3 got bailed out. They lobbied congress to have the government subsidize the automotive industry, so their workers wouldn't get shit canned. The people they represent are overpaid and under qualified for the jobs they perform. The American automotive industry is a freaking joke because of the way unions work here.

All the people complaining about junk these days. Y all need to build some factories here in America and start making quality, American made parts. You d make a killing. The time is ripe. C mon, get off the keyboard and get er done. What? It s not that easy? I mean back in your day they did it. I guess if it wasn t for the Chinese, we literally would be in the Stone Age

Eric. when a fan is moving more air, it draws more power. but if you restrict the flow, it draws less, because the fan isn't a positive displacement pump. Like when a vacuum cleaner gets plugged, it makes that high pitched whine. it's because the motor is spinning faster because it's not moving any air. The amount of current it draws depends on how much work it's doing.

I have the same luck with recent new parts! Changed a Jeep resistor with a new aftermarket one and got nothing but frustration and several bad words! Guess the parts are all made in the same bad company factory? On the other hand the frost on the pumpkin telling me to look at the snow blowers today! Thanks SMA for my morning video with coffee and MickyD s.

Plugged up cabin air filters usually kill the OEM original blower motor and or resistor, most customers never inspect /change them or even know their vehicle has one, but agree offshore knockoff parts are complete garbage and even the current OEM dealer sourced replacement's are not much better. I also find anything made by Valeo to be lousy.
reply

Yeah, this phenomenon of crap parts is well entrenched in the heavy truck parts market, too. I could tell some stories, but it's basically the same flavor, just larger prices and larger portions. Absolute garbage coming down the pipe now, whether you get afturdmarket, or buy from the stealership.

Got a replacement oe blower motor, and blower motor resistor from the junkyard for 25. I won t complain about my silhouette after seeing that headache. Took 15 min to change both
Mine started drawing too much current and melted down the blower motor resistor plug

Chrysler Town and Country. No matter what you tell about this vehicle I made over 200k without any major issues. Frequent oil changes, brakes, tires, gaskets, suspension and still running like new even you can see grass true the lower section of the door
