Buick Envision: SRS (Air Bag) Light On - THE FIX I like that T-handle wrench, very handy. Jeez Louise, it took you longer to get to the sensors than it did to diagnose and replace them. Love those kinds of designs. Maybe water got into the sensors and they failed one after the other in short order?
I think they make that plastic out of wasa crisp bread. Land Rover uses the same formula.
Connector Experts. I will have to remember them, Working on old Land Rovers getting connectors can be a trial.
Instructions for installing crimped connectors:
1. Connect the wires securely together
2. slide the connector over the wire connection
3. crimp securely using the proper crimping tool
4. But first slide on the heat shrink tubing.

Some type of surge may have caused them to both go bad, low to high voltage, badly regulated current, or worse lightning strike. around or near or on the vehicle while it was parked somewhere. I parked my Chevy truck in downtown Atlanta one day while working, had a very bad storm Lightning hail high winds came out to start my truck at the end of the day, and nothing and I kept smelling something that was burned. Then another guy in the lot noticed a burned spot with a cut right through the steel. Just remove the mirror on the passenger side door the computer had to be replaced to get the vehicle running the smell was determined that it was the smell of ozone. I kept saying something burning, but it was ozone odor.

Maybe it is just curiosity due to being sticker shocked on almost everything I buy nowadays, but I wish you would mention prices on some of these replacement parts. I don't care how much you charge or how you determine that, although I think you have covered that. Yes, I could look them up, but am too lazy unless I actually need that part. When you say ridiculously expensive, it would be nice to have a dollar figure to it. Yes, retail price is all I want to know or even ballpark. OK, done whining. Thanks for the vid, I look forward to each and every one. Pocket Ts. Just in case you read this.

Mr O's concientiousness and attention to detail is unreal. Tip on plastics door and other tabs for my fellow amateurs out there without Eric O's encyclopedic knowledge of disassembly techniques. get yerselves a basic plastic welder. essentially a soldering iron with wide tip. and some stainless steel mesh fabric. When you snap anything plastic. and you will. put all the broken bits back into position and then melt the wire mesh into the plastic across the breaks. The repaired part is stronger than the original. Never fails.

Did you ever get a good magnified look at that bad connector to see what happened to the pins? Im curious if they were bent, or fell out, had a broken wire at the connector, or had crusties deep down. Good job finding the faults. Ill admit the criss cross code thing (Rt front Left rear, etc) had me scratching my head at first. thought it was shorted in the module. but then it vanished when YOU shorted it to ground!
module.
A Happy Holidays to You, Mrs O, and all the little O's. even the 4 legged ones.

You have a thing I've seen you do a lot for a long time, you check how tight a connection holds together. This time that check was needed to fix the problem, ignore it and you're still in trouble with this problem. I worked on my own cars for years, never thought to do this check. It might have come in handy. Experience is why you're so good. Pay attention to detail, analyze the problem, recall past issues, all plays into a mechanic who never seems to be stuck. A real gem of a tech. Great stuff.

Good choice on that type of shrink sleeving, not only do you have an adhesive but it also will seal against water intrusion. There are solder connectors that have a solder band in the middle and a sealant on both ends, we used in aircraft harnesses. Only thing I would have done differently is after crimping solder backfill the splice, then fold over and tie wrap the joint for strain relief. Thats me though, not a critique of your work, only another view.

Anything's possible when there's a computer involved. Could be that when the car is switched on, it looks at the date and time, number of miles on the clock, serial number of the car, and then a random number could be generated. If the random number matches a certain criteria, an output could be generated and sent out over the wires from the sensors to ruin them. Or, it could be something else. We are at the mercy of the programmers.

Curious as to why both side airbag sensors failed at the same time. One thought is that the really small prongs in the connectors do not work when they are even slightly oxidized/dirty. Next time, it may be interesting to try and spray the electrical prongs within the connector with electrical connector cleaner and see if that solves the problem. That is the way it works on my Jeep Grand Cherokee - about every three years after year 12.

I wonder if these sensors are just accelerometers. The car would have a central accelerometer (probably in SRS or traction control module) and compare the acceleration values of each against the central one. If it sees one moving more than a certain amount, it deploys the airbag.
Also, if the sensors both share the same ground (when you shorted it, it showed the other side IIRC) perhaps they both got hit with too much reverse voltage.

So enjoyable to watch you take time and patience and think through situations and issues. The extra few minutes to think how can we remove the door trim and hopefully not damage it. Also verifying that the connector pins were giving intermittent connection. These are the reasons everyone wishes you were in our town and we were your customers. As always great video content. Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. O.

At the risk of being super-critical, I don't think you should have ran your shrink-wrap torch as close to the battery as you did, Eric. I would bet that off-camera, you sampled the air around the battery and determined there was no danger, as we all know batteries produce explosive gasses. All kidding aside, I would also bet stranger things have happened; especially to you. GREAT VIDEO!

They can't make a robot that can place a hooked top door panel? Looks like another over engineered design to make assembly less complicated?
Eric your customers have no idea unless they see how it was done in the past. The list of labor items for simple tasks is getting ridiculous.
Nice job! Next to the battery is relative to the size of your flame and room ventilation!

Does each air bag inflators have there own connection at the air bag control module just asking and i thought each seat and belt harness sends its own signals - could it be a factory defect. Yea my Chevy-two water bottles can and will turn on the seatbelt ding and lights on right front and the back seats too if to much junk is there in that seating area

You have to use a load test on wiring one strand of wire, so there's 100 strands out in the wire 10 gauge wire using a gage it is one little strand of wire will trick the meter to think that the wire is good it'll help out good he were resistance, so you're right resistance doesn't checkfor damage wires checks for open and shorts only

Hey Eric O, Allan here from Australia! You ve given me the confidence to repair and rebuild my LS. This has been my first comment on your vids. A shout out to you and Connector Experts. Love you and your camaraderie with Mrs O. Please keep up the vids! Absolutely love everything you guys do! Love from Al and Kobe from the AU!

TESA has been used in the US for at least 20 years. Multiple types, including some that you CANNOT just tear. It has to be cut. GREAT tape. I got a 'sales' sample when they came to present this tape to our EESE team. It is GREAT tape. and it has a pretty Great price. LOL. yea. pay for the quality!

I had the exact issue (with the metal clips for the window squeegee/felt wiper) with my 2018 Sierra 1500 when I swapped out my mirrors for trailer mirrors.
What a PISSER!
I agree, Eric. Dumbest idea!
Had me shaking my head trying to understand the logic behind the design.

Actually, it makes some sense! The one sensor had gone bad, and during that time the second went bad. The real question is why they went south? Is someone a door slammer? The only idea I can think of! Is he/she a sometimes driver / passenger?

Had two window motors fail on a gm van at the same time. Talked to the local dealer and they said I should take it up with gm customer relations. They agreed it must have been a manufacturing defect and they covered the cost of the motors.
