I replaced the fan motors in my 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore last year because one started squealing due to a seized bearing & it's just as well as I did anyway, the drive end bearing was about to go in the other motor, the carbon brushes & commutator was severely worn after about 385, 000 kilometres or 240, 000 miles, the fan motors are realistically non serviceable anyway.
Since it runs the 5. 7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine & the fans were for a 3. 8 litre Buick L36 V6 powered Holden Commodore Crewman Ute/pickup truck I ordered 2 of what would be the drivers side fan motors (the shorter fan motor & smaller fan went on the left hand or passenger side in the V8 cars, it was the opposite in the V6 Commodores, they're both a 3 wire 2 speed motor.
It didn't matter because the coolant flows back to front in the V6 radiator as to what it does in the V8 radiator so the smaller fan was on the opposite side, I still used the larger N. O. S. fan motor on the smaller V8 fan blade, I just had to solder the connector from the old passenger side fan motor onto the new drivers side fan motor which I fitted onto the passenger side of the radiator.
The V8 powered Commodores seemed to use different type of fan blades to the 3. 8 litre V6 powered Holden Commodores, the V8 models tend to use a larger pitch of blade.
It seems however, in 2005 that the fan blade pitch was the same in the 3. 6 litre alloy V6 powered VZ Commodores as the V8 models!

Im a bit confused on how the fan was condemned by adding power to the duty cycle wire. Am i correct that this yellow wire is ground pulsed (duty cycle) from the tipm? And the red/black wires are power and ground to the fan itself. Can anyone help me understand how this circuit works? Im at a loss how adding power to the yellow wire caused the fan to work. is power supposed to feed back from the fan to the yellow wire somewhere? I was just a bit confused how he diagnosed it so quickly without a clear explanation.

I remember the good old days when we had a coolant temperature sensor on the thermostat housing and when it got hot the fan came on low speed, it got hotter the fan got faster and finally. chocks away prepare for take off! .and that was summer towing in the mountains, maybe slightly overloaded; ) It never overheated tho. . I'm old and i still hose the bugs out of the radiator, im told thats not necessary with modern radiators, just set in my ways I guess. Nice video

I can't believe that you wouldn't just leave that test light on there and save the customer money. Mechanical always trying to rip customers off. That test light is cheaper than a new OEM fan. My uncle's mother inlaw had a brother who knew a guy who had a son who worked with a guy who uses to be a mechanic and he said he left his teat light on fans all the time and they never had an issue.

It SUCKS being sick over the holidays, and then to HAVE to work on top of all that TRUELY BLOWS! I feel for you brother, you did what you HAD TO DO, cuz you re an MERICAN, and a MAN! You put your boots on and got to it. NOT because Mrs O MADE YOU (but she probably did, lol. Anyway, GET SOME REST when you can and get better my friend.

again, it seems you're the only competent shop in upstate New York. How these other places stay in business is beyond me. This seem like a rather simple diagnosis did anybody first year in the field should've been able to figure out. Who are these other shops employed? You should expose them for what they are or rather are not

We can always tell someone is sick when they use 'your' intead of 'you're' in the title.
At the very least, it makes me feel sick the amount I see it nowadays, not sure if people are just getting lazy, or if they truely don't know the difference

Shop took the Jeep back and replaced the new fan with another new fan and all is well. We made the right call. Remember folks, new does not always mean good.

3 days, I drank water with lemon nonstop and it moved through. The key is to flush really heavy!

I'm in WNY, and had the same thing, Eric O. So did the wife. It lasts about 3 days. Zinc and Vitamin C get rid of it. It's definitely going around the area.
