Sell your car for free with Carwow: Meet the all-electric G-Class! Mercedes has finally unveiled the all-electric G580. The question is, does this all-electric G-Class ruin the heritage of this world-renowned off-roader For starters, let’s check out the design. Thankfully, the biggest changes are under the skin, so this all-new G retains its predecessor's classic boxy shape. Up front, there’s an updated grille design, coupled with an updated lower bumper. You still get trim that runs across the side of the car, although in this electric edition it comes with a little blue stripe included! Around the back, there’s an updated rear bumper, and on the back door, what once held a spare wheel now holds the charging cables! Step inside and the G580 is just as stylish and well-built as those that came before it. There are soft-touch, high-quality materials throughout, and the seats are super comfortable. The 580 comes with a new steering wheel, updated infotainment and digital dial screens, along with a number of other updates in the centre console and across the dash. When it comes to performance, there are a number of options to run through. For those not wanting to go fully electric, there’s a 3-litre diesel and a 3-litre straight-six turbo petrol, and these deliver 367hp and 449hp respectively. Meanwhile, the AMG G63 delivers 585hp, and all cars are equipped with a 9-speed automatic gearbox. As for the G580, it comes with an incredible four electric motors, and these combine to produce 587hp and an eye-watering 1, 164Nm! So there’s loads of power, but because it weighs over 3 tonnes, it still takes 4. 7 seconds to hit 60mph. The entry-level diesel G-Class starts at 136, 000, the all-electric G580 starts at around 160, 000, and the most powerful AMG G63 costs around 185, 000. With that in mind, should you choose the all-electric G580 over the G63! You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself! As a Benz fanboy, their inconsistency absolutely baffles me, they said they kept the electric G Wagons design as close to the design of the ICE G Wagon because the wanted to keep the cars Iconic Silhouette but then make different designs for the EQE, EQS, EQS SUV and EQE SUV, the S - Class and the E - Class look good, just make the electric car look the same as the ICE car and then go crazy on the interior, I am pretty sure their sales for their electric cars would be better if they looked the same as ICE cars, because in my opinion, they do not look that great

Mat, judging from these comments you may have failed to mske ti obvious that the other models of G wagon are still for sale and this is just an extra modek for sale. People seem to think its replacing the other models. I hate EVs but if you're going to allow my the V8 cars to continue to be produced and you're justing adding an option for EV wanters, why would i care Sounds like everyone wins. The Straight Pipes review on this car is very informative

An ICONIC car that in 1993 I had the great opportunity as a 14yr old boy to marvel at the look feel smell and then ride in one in London. looking back then these cars were not common just solidly built
Now because of China and celeb attention hungry people the designers have muddled up what was not broke. except when you go to the petrol station (diesel) to full up.

People are Forgetting Women like the Kardashians are the Target Demographic for this. Wifes of Rich People wouldn't mind this and there's a Whole lot of them in the World to keep the production going. Not Forgetting a smaller Number of Rich Men that are Conscious about the Environment while Loving Flashy things. Boom! those are the Customers

Why did MB made this
165 kWh battery and 285 miles range, less than 600 hp, 3 ton, 4. 7s to 60, almost 180k price tag, less practically, mediocre payload. Where do I stop Apart from my subjective liking for the looks of the car there is absolutely nothing going on for this car. My Rivian R1T will blow it out of the water in every aspects.

I'm sorry, I'm trying to find a reason to want this vehicle and with the minimal cargo load, non towing, small boot, Still having to slam the door shut, I could go on and on and on. Oh, forgot that ridiculous square silhouette. I guess it's really only for status.

I cant explain why, but this desing just looks more feminim to me, which i feel like is kinda missing the target group. Not because only Man buy G Classes but because more feminim Design for me means its targeted to like those business woman working in NYC or smth

The key system definitely something that buyers must be paying a close eye on. Basically, you must keep the battery on at all times since the key seemingly a bit hard to operate. Also, why do Mercedes put the emergency keyhole at the back Like, come on

Wouldn’t have another left electric Mercedes they are very disappointing and the build quality is dire! I’d hope the G would be considerably better as it’s not actually built by Mercedes but I wouldn’t hold my breath!
reply

Are we really seeing a G Wagon weighing like 3 metric tons Like that's crazy, the weight is insane.
Whatever someone might say, the AMG G63 has way more grunt than the EQG, I'd still prefer the G400D over the EQG.

Mercedes boss: How do we make this electric version as expensive to fix and repair as the ICE
Mercedes engineer: develop complex 4 motor system and make sure to add more potential leak points than necessary.

This car is pointless. The only reason to buy an electric car is if you drive around town most of the time and you charge it at home. If not, there's no point. So from my perspective a big electric SUV is pointless.

These car reviewers need to realize unless you’re in a sports/super or hyper car, no one is riding around with no music, podcast or something on. They always act like people are just sitting in silence!

matt, the drag coefficient is a non dimensional unit. The cd is not the unit, rather the 0. 49 is the cd value. Therefore, calling the drag to be 0. 49 cd is wrong. it should be cd=0. 49. cheers!
reply

People who want larger rims are objectively unintelligent. They are more expensive, make your tires more expensive, make your ride stiffer and far less comfortable, and make your vehicle slower.
reply

The main target demographic of buyers for this type of car are individuals from the middle east heavily invested in the fossil fuel industry. Have Mercedes thought this one through
reply

I want to buy g-wagon only beacause the feeling that you get from petrol g-wagon and the sound what you get from it. From elctric g-wagon you don't get that feeling and the sound
reply

Compared to the new range rover and BMW electric SUVs which look awful and are souless. This looks better and they have kept the look of the original as best they can. So 8 out of ten.
reply

Ture, after 2018 Mercedes doesn't know how to make cars right. EQ series is junk, even putting LED lights and screens everywhere in Maybach makes this brand like a toy car.
reply

The problem is that the G-Class's reputation has been ruined by those who bought it because it became popular among shady characters, so around here, it's widely disliked.
