Sell your car for free with Carwow: It’s time for a Tesla Model 3 Performance drag race! We’ve got our hands on the first edition of the Model 3 Performance to hit our shores, and it’s about to go head-to-head against the all-new edition! So let’s see how the two compare. For starters, the older car isn’t actually a full-blown Performance - it’s a Model 3 with a Performance Pack added to it. Even so, it still comes with two electric motors which combine to produce 450hp and 640Nm of torque. The two motors also mean the car has all-wheel drive, and it weighs in at 1, 850kg. Back in 2020 the car cost around 58, 000. As for the newer car, it offers almost identical stats. The two motors offer all-wheel drive and combined they produce 460hp and 650Nm. It weighs in at 1, 839kg, and as new it costs around 60, 000. So they offer almost identical performance, but will the newer technology prevail There’s only one way to find out. LET’S RACE!

I think they didn't do as much as they could with the performance of the new M3P. It's running basically the same numbers, is barely as fast as a stock BMW M3, and in Europe the power is even more limited because of the low quality battery.
They should have done the Plaid treatment with carbon sleeved motors so no power fall-off with speed or low battery, put huge brakes with a lot of pistons so it would be a formidable rival to the likes of AMGs and M3s and stuff. This should have been running low 10s.

Whenever I see one of these I think the owner is on their way to sell some fax machine ink. I suspect even if they don’t sell any ink they ask the fax machine owner where the nearest charger is so they can get home to their Barratt home, pop on their grey tracksuits and sit in front of eastenders with the least spiciest microwave Curry they can find. Then after washing their mangina they climb into their single bed dreaming of the monthlies on a v10

The more I see, the more I'm glad I bought a pre owned 2023 M3P and not the newest one. If it was priced similarly to the US version and ofc had the same spec, then it's worth it. But we're paying near $75, 000 for a less powerful version while the US pays something like $45k for a higher power one I'm amazed it's actually selling over here at all: S

First, there is no incentive for anyone outside the U. S. to buy the new M3P with the LG battery. It's garbage. With that said, Matt needs to have both cars at equivalent SOC and batteries pre-conditioned to get the most out of the races. He consistently underperforms the cars vs what they are capable of running. How embarrassing for Tesla though.
reply

Wow thats embarassing for tesla. Matt is also right. Doing test at only 90% or higher SoC isnt real world. Most of the time u wont have that just driving around and the fact it drops off so rapidly in acceleration is embarassing compared to GAS cars. The m3/m4 comp xdrive would obliterate the new model 3

Would be very interested to see the 2022 M3P against the new one. I have a 2019 M3P (panasonic) but got a new rear motor (2022 version, pulls better. It is notably faster especially with lower state-of-charge. It could even beat the new version (with the LG battery.
reply

Please repeat with both cars leaving from nearest charger: we'll likely see the 2024 win by the slimmest of margins but consistently. Again, because the 2020 3P is so darn fast to start off with. It's hard to be a golden standard.

Who actually cares they are like the iPhone of the car world, borring and everyones got one.
That and anyone getting bored of drag races Put them on a track and do laptimes everyone knows EVs as fast in straight line.

reply

1: the US Model is faster because of another batter
2: State of Charge should have been shown and maybe supercharging before or hooing about was heating the new one up too much. In other tests the new one is faster!

It's funny how the cars have a little jump in them. 95-100 is jolting
80-95 is poppy
65-80 is quick
45-65 is powerful but smooth
20-45 is quick
0-20 feels sluggish maybe a 12. 5-12. 8 quarter mile

reply

No surprise, the new UK and European have same power as old. Short changed again in UK, why aren’t we able to have the US battery, drag races in US show the new performance is significantly quicker than old.
reply

China made model 3 performance is worse than US counterpart. That Panasonic battery pack delivers more discharge to motors than LG battery pack and hence its faster. It also store little bit more energy.

The only thing these clown cars have going for them is their 0 to 60 times! Not very practical for this day and age! But like I said, it's all they have going for them! Cheers from Canada

Can confirm. Tesla throttles acceleration like crazy. Very disappointing. Selling my 2020 Model 3 performance asap. Glad to see im not missing out on anything with the newer models
reply

Great performances for both nothing to say, however bad value for the used one (US market.
Tesla's price cuts have had a negative impact on the resale value of its vehicles, -28%.

reply

Perfect example of Tesla adding zero value to their facelifted car. I’m so incredibly glad I traded in my Model 3. What a garbage car. The only thing good about it is the software.
reply

Still faster with 50% SOC than 99% of the ice cars on the road. The new performance is a great car, and drives and feels so much better than the old one.
reply

Drag them both on same level of battery and then drag them both when the old Tesla is low on battery then let’s see what would really happen.
reply

Most boring CarWow episode ever. The two cars are so similar that even the gaps and catch up's look slow. Mat: They all sound the same anyway.
reply

I wish we didn’t watch the neutered Highland Performance. The rest of the world got hacked on that one. We get the full beans in the US.
