Sell your car for free with Carwow: This is the new Volkswagen Tiguan! VW’s ever-popular mid-sized SUV has had a facelift, and Mat’s about to find out what’s changed and whether it can compete with competitors like the Peugeot 3008 and Skoda Kodiaq. When it comes to the design, there are several changes over the previous edition. We’ve got our hands on the R-Line edition, which has a few sportier elements than the entry-level car. Up front, there’s a full-length light bar, and it also comes with an aggressive lower bumper and some real vents. Along the side this edition comes with black window surrounds, contrasting door mirrors and black roof bars. At the back, there’s another full-length light bar and (thankfully) no fake exhausts to be found anywhere! There are several updates on the inside too. This R-Line edition comes with ambient lights built into the dash on the passenger side, and this car is also specced with an upgraded infotainment screen! It’s a super clear display, although unfortunately, it can be a bit laggy at times. The climate controls are also managed through the screen as well. There’s a large digital driver's display, and the gear selector has moved to a stalk on the steering wheel. There are a couple of engine options available. The entry-level is a 1. 5-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 130hp, while another 1. 5-litre turbo petrol can put down 150hp. There’s one diesel available - a 2-litre turbo diesel that creates 150hp. There are also two plug-in hybrids available - both use the 1. 5-litre turbo petrol, with one creating 204hp, and one creating 272hp. These cars come with a 20kWh battery pack that can drive on electric power alone for up to 77 miles! The Tiguan starts at 34, 000, rising to up to 48, 000 for the top-of-the-range edition. So is it worth it You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Well personally I think the gear selector on the stalk behind the steering wheel is horrendous, as a person that has difficulty with my movement I find it very difficult to reach the control when located there & mercedes are even worse. I'd much prefer it in the center console area as I'm sure many others would for similar reasons that's why some people still put it in the center console for ease of access for all types of drivers.

Why didn't he complain about putting the wiper control stalk controls on the left with the indicator stalk It took me years to get used to having the indicators on the left with wipers on the right thanks to conforming with the EU and now just because of that gear selector on the right-hand stalk (did anyone really want that) I shall be forever wiping the windscreen instead of indicating! So, it's a 'No' from me.

That has got to be one of the ugliest integrations of the center and digital driver's screens ever. Cheapest possible surrounding plastic (the sound when he tapped it from the back, with that black glossy finish - abhorrent - and that driver display, with huge bezels, looks like from a cheap toy car. The passenger's side actually looks kind of decent - but the whole right one is a huge turn off.

Having driven so many badges, I would agree with Matt that either spend a bit more and go for Audi or spend a bit less and go for Skoda, just avoid Volkswagen. Even though they are all VW group cars the difference is palpable. The only car that didn't give me backache driving from London to Wales over 4 hours was an Audi.

You can tell how solid of a car this Tiguan is, by the fact that 1 of the 5 annoying things is the problem you have with the HUD when you wear polarized sunglasses, which applies for EVERY CAR THAT HAS A HUD.
What's next One annoying thing you have with this car, is that if you puncture the tire, the air escapes!

Interesting introductions on car reviews these days, but I actually miss the way you used to start off videos by saying This is the new VW Tiguan and its a little bit like. and compare it to something else. Always prefer intros with your brilliant sense of humor! Nevertheless, I still enjoy watching your reviews everyday.

If you do loads of miles get a diesel, but if you don't do loads of miles get a hybrid, on the diesel the dpf filter clogs quickly if it doesn't do many miles and the cleaning is expensive (or sometimes it needs replacing that will cost even more)

I see a lot of yellow stuff in the dash board - this is problem of all new tiguans and passat. Yes, the VW has a big problems with this two models and they do not have solution yet. How can the big Volkswagen put on the road this semi-final cars!

Double glazed back windows! The windshield is always double glazed. Highend cars also have double glazed front windows. But you cant break through doubleglazed windows with lifehammers. so at least the backwindows shouldnt be double glazed IMO.

I really hate VWs new interior direction with no buttons, there’s no functionality. I also dislike the lack of power compared to other SUVs its size and obviously the Tiguan R isn’t going to be sold in the states for some odd reason.

12: 14 On the new Tucson Facelift (I wonder if you will have it reviewed) the HUD is visible even with polarized lenses, it's just slightly dimmer, but ok to read. I have had tested the same in the Haval H6 and there it disappears completely.

carwow: if this Tiguan 2024 has a 615 litres of boot space. then I am an alien! HAHAHAHA. here the VW goes again with their lying calculations to make their bootspaces sound bigger. In reality this is a 500-520 litres of boot space max.

It's funny how they made a global launch of the Tiguan RLine back in 2018 I think so all around the world there's the same car, but now in Brazil for example the 2024 Tiguan still an old model, not even close to this one.

Why would anyone buy any modern car produced after Dec 23 All the new EU regulations completely ruin every car produced from Jan 24 (speed limit warning, blackbox, alcohol tester, and so on whatever will come in the future)
reply

Incredible that VW STILL has not changed that horrible capacitive touch center display! It's been YEARS, and all they did was add a backlight At least the Tiguan has FOUR window switches, unlike the ID4. Makes no sense!

The base model looks disgusting. Why do the German carmakers do this Isn't it more expensive to have 2 versions of rear lights than just 1 version for all. They are so annoying. This is why the Chinese cars will win.

Mat I've always been curious, how much prep do you do for each car you review How much is improvised vs researched in the car before the video Do you ever struggle to find 5 annoying things Would make a cool video!

Sunglassholder should be mandatory to fit in every car! Everybody use them (or regular glasses, they scratch easy and need special storage to last. Nice to see they kept that!
Great review as usual!

Had a Tiguan R worst car ever kept going wrong, dealer broke it etc etc I left a review and they tried to bribe me with a case of wine and a hamper to take the review down
Toyota rav now much happier

I’m getting a bit tired of so many screens and touch buttons, they’re cost cutting and taking the focus away from the actual interior quality. And don’t get me started on these fixed headrests.
