Change your car with Carwow: This is the new Renault Clio! Renault’s supermini has received a mid-life facelift, and Mat’s going to put it through its paces to see if it can compete with class leaders like the Volkswagen Polo! In terms of the design, given that it’s only a mid-life facelift, it’s no surprise that it looks relatively similar to the previous edition. There’s an updated bumper at the front of the car, some new DLRs and updated headlights. These now come as LEDs as standard in all versions of this car! Along the side, the looks are almost identical, while the range-topping edition we have here has black window surrounds, which aren’t available on all trim levels. At the back, there’s a new bumper, as well as updated taillights. Step inside and the Clio is very much what you’d expect from a car in this class. There are some soft-touch materials on the dash, although this becomes scratchy black plastic lower down in the cabin. The edition we have here comes with comfortable sports seats, and there’s also a relatively large infotainment screen and a set of digital dials. Although the infotainment screen is relatively large, it doesn’t run Renault’s latest infotainment system, so it looks a bit old and can be quite laggy. There are two engines to choose from. The entry-level is a 1-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol that can deliver 90hp, while the second option is a 1. 6-litre self-charging hybrid that produces 145hp. In terms of the price, the Clio can undercut the majority of its competitors. The entry-level car costs 18, 000, 1. 6-litre car costs 21, 600. The former is only available as a manual, while the latter has an automatic gearbox. In fact, the fully-specced range-topper (that we have for this video) only costs 25, 000! So is the Clio the smart choice for anyone choosing a new supermini Or is a Polo or Fabia a better choice Stick with Mat and see for yourself! Please AVOID buying this car. It has a major common defect with its multi-mode gearbox. It leaks oil and the oil enters the Electric Motor which will damage both the gearbox and the electric motor.
I have the Clio E-Tech Hybrid 2020. I believe that not only Clio that has this major defect, but also any hybrid car from Renault.
A new gearbox and electric motor cost around 7000 euro.
I've been doing the service at Renault on a regular basis, however my car has broken down when it reached 90000 km because of this defect and I need to pay around 8000 euro for a new gearbox and electric motor.
I don't have such a big amount of money and the car has been my main source of income for 2 years, but it's not working now because of that issue.
Please don't make my mistake and stay away from any hybrid Renault car that uses the same gearbox multi-mode.

i bought this exact car and spec last month through carwow and i love it, so much quality for the price! interesting to see matt's issues with the car, the whine i personally don't have in mine, but the rest is about right yet not really a problem. after about 800 miles i'm at 55. 9mpg and it climbs every time i drive, especially if you drive in B gear in eco mode and use the adaptive cruise control / speed limiter. It did start around 38 for me as well, but it appears to be the computer figuring things out over time. My actual usage has been in line what what renault said, but overall it's a great car and i recommend it to everyone, not that that counts for anything!

25 k pound for a supposed cheap and cheerful car in the mini section today! I just lost all interest. Apart from that, what happened to the DIESEL Renault, Peugeot and Citroen to be very good at diesel cars, actually these engines being their breadwinners. The rest of these cars are kind of crap, and I know, because I own my second 207 diesel. The engine runs great, everything else is falling apart. French cars are infamous for electrical and electronic issues, so good luck with a French built hybrid or EV.

I bought the full spec esprit Alpine 5 months ago and I'm very pleased with. True, when driving around town it's not the most comfortable, buy when you get out on a mountain road it's just pure joy, especially in Sport mode.
The self parking feature might not be available for UK, but I have it and it's pretty damn good when I am lazy.
Also, I'd fully recommend getting it with the Bose system. It's around 500 eur, but it definitely delivers when you're blasting it on the highway

Ah yes another clio, thats what the world needs, a mediocre looking, mid performance car with just enough reliability to be called meh. I really think Mitsubishi and Nissan got flushed down the toilet since joining this incredibly boring Renault alliance, i dunno about Nissan but Mitsubishi is now reduced to a freaking soulless Renault trim!
You want a fun tiny car then try the real Mitsubishi Colt ralli art 180 limited edition from before the Renault take over

It suffers from the same acoustic issues as the previous Clio, unfortunately. AC vents have an annoying plasticky squeek when going over uneven surface and car develops more squeeks from the front windows wiggling around on the rails. Pretty normal for this class of a car but annoying because the top trim interior looks so nice you forget you drive a Clio, and then it starts reminding you it is a Clio after all

I bought a brand new Renault Austral with the Alpine Esprit package. After just 200 miles, the driver’s side door started making a cracking sound. Fortunately, it has a 5-year warranty, so they took care of it. However, once the warranty expires, I plan to sell it immediately. I'll likely opt for a Kia or Hyundai next, as they tend to be more reliable and better-built than this French one.

I've got an MG3 on loan at the moment, and I think this is the closest competition - main thing I'm going to pick up on my review is that the Clio has nailed the climate controls whereas the MG has a mess through the screen! I think the two of them are definitely the class leaders now at the lower end of the market, especially in full hybrid config. Alpine trim is also really nice on this.

Can't understand why rear usb ports (mostly designed for kids) dont have usb ports in 2024. Not like usb was a mystery in 2020 when this design was signed off. Did the French even hear of usb c No excuse. Smaller screen in cheaper version is cheapskating. About the size of the smallest cheap tablet screen. Peanuts cost to Renault bulk order power

I always laugh when car makers say No animals were killed or hurt in making this car the cows were already slaughtered for food, the hides were a byproduct. Now all this fashion conscious people buy a sofa, car interior or anything man made (PVC) should be thinking of the 300-500, 000 hides sent to landfill each day

I have the Clio 5 hybrid as a company vehicle in France. The fuse box problem in the glove box seems to be an English problem only. With the glove box on the right side of the car, there is no fuse box in it.
And yes, it is really fun to drive, especially on winding roads. (don't tell my superiors please)

Carwow. You all are now confusing me with the chapters in order and im used to the intro first, design, price, driver seat, rear seat, 5 annoying features and 5 cool ones, engine choices, town driving, motorway driving, 0 to 60mph, verdict and outro. Pls change it back to how it used to be

Had the 2020 RS Line Clio, 1. 3 96kW for 3. 5 years. Made 88000 km, sold it for good price. I really liked it a lot. Now considering of buying this version, but with the BOSE sound system, it sounds really nice for Clio. Blanked out buttons on 1: 48 are for parking assistance and 360 camera

Not a bad car but the discount on one it’s none at least for now that’s what the dealer told me. So considering the bad resale value of Renault it’s not very tempting. However I have to give them credit for being innovative with the hybrid powertrain and good design.

I’m sure it’s a nice car but 25 grand for a posh Clio is crazy, could of got a mk8 st or i20N, a few years ago for same price, I get not everyone wants a hot hatch, the Fiesta st has more than enough technology and the ride quality and comfort are fine

I am clearly showing my age here, but since when has a small hatchback with 90hp become under powered When I started driving the base Golf had 55hp and we lusted after the GT or GTD which had, you guessed it, 90hp. Those were powerful machines! ; )

I can never bring myself to like the interiors of french cars. Also in terms of performance I expected better from the hybrid version.
I mean, my 2017 Toyota Auris estate does 10. 1 seconds with 136hp and it's a car from 8 years ago.

Great value as always, but I won't buy this type of car brand new. I'd rather have a used Clio IV 1. 5 dCi 110: more than half the price with very low mileage or a Clio IV RS for more fun. And wait 1 year for a used Clio V even full hybrid

Yalls under cover cars are a lot more undercover than over the pond.
All they do here is a blackout on a regular squad car with hideaway lights but clearly stick out badly in traffic riding on the same steelies lol(yea I'm from texas)
