So, it -looks- to me like Hyundai's new positioning for its various brands in ascending order of prestige is:
1) Bottom end of Kia - Cheap crap, tries to be the cheapest, most plasticky car with the most features for the money in every segment in which it competes. Kia small crossovers and compact sedans fall into this category. Kia's division into an upper and lower tier that might as well be distinct brands is similar to the way VW uses Skoda in Europe.
2) Hyundai - Reliable, reasonably nice family cars and automotive appliances, essentially the Korean Toyota but with more focus on offering electronic features nobody else has for the price. They also have a bit of cheap fun thrown in there for a halo car effect on an otherwise boring brand, with the Hyundai Veloster being Hyundai's Toyota 86.
3) Top end of Kia - These are sporty, stylish, premium cars for people who want a BMW but don't want to maintain one, and don't want to put up with Mazda ride quality and rust issues either. Kia mid size sedans, full size sedans, sport sedans, large SUVs and crossovers, and their minivan, the Sedona, fall into this category. Yes, there's still plenty of plastic and cardboard hidden throughout the car to make up for the premium materials inside, but were you ever under the impression that you were driving anything more than a nice Kia?
4) Genesis - Hyundai is trying to turn their luxury boats for retirees, the Equus, Azera, and Genesis, into actual luxury cars that you'd see alongside the A7s, CTS-Vs, and E-classes in a Silicon valley parking garage. They've got the build quality, materials, and features to compete with cars that cost nearly twice as much, though I don't think they'll be able to overcome the economy car reputation of their corporate parent with unbeatable reliability, like Lexus did in the 90s.

U guys don't have to show your bias towards European cars all the time, how can the Lexus with such a stunning exterior and interior design and is a flagship be at no 6 behind all the cars u showed that are plain and mere? That Lexus is the star of the show by a mile and a real contender and rival to the s class in that segment. The exterior and interior design is just fabulous
reply

Don't get me wrong I think they all look good but it's nothing more than a variation of designs of already existing models, including the interior! As if that never happened, lol. I would have expected something a bit more refreshing, you know killing all the start-up car companies before they even produce a car.

The VW Buzz is the only car I care about on this list. It looks great and has a ton of personality. Everything else is stuck in the past. The Q8 looks cool, and I guess if it's a PHEV then it has some practicality, but the cargo space will be smaller for that size of car. The e-tron is going to be the real game changer.

The Kia looks amazing but they need a redesign of that ugly badge before they release a beautiful car like that ahah! Not sure about the Q8, part of me likes it part of me doesn't! Really not sure about the camper, maybe it would look nicer in a different colour and but definitely needs with a different style of wheels!

Kia is getting much and much better. The Lexus was very good as well, and the 1st place was quite good as well, I wouldn't put concept cars in lists when talking about good production cars, but after all, the concepts will be modified to be road-worthy, so, now I don't have many doubts.

stinger is copy paste shit! Mazda 6 from the front, Jaguar from the back and interior design stolen from Mercedes. how Matt did not notice that? and tiguan is ugly as fck. that boxy boring design, it look's like it is from year 2000. lol
reply

I had a kia rio n ditched it when the wind knocked the car of the street on a major highway. There were good cars n cheap.
That badge in steering wheel tho in the stinger. needs to be toned down! geez.

HAHA MATT CAN TALK ALL DAY BUT CANT AFFORD TO GO Detroit motor show! WHAT JOKE. SAY BRILLIANT 10 times. even ppl going from australia to cover that show. lmafo and this slide show video for what!

When you remove wild headlights and taillights from the Q8, you get the same dull car as the new Q7. and they WILL, since it is the -concept car- and Audi is generally not very brave.
