The BMW 5 Series Touring has competed towards the top of its class since it was first introduced back in 1991. New for 2017 is the fifth generation of the sporty executive estate, and it-s aiming for rivals like the Mercedes E-Class Estate and the Volvo V90. So does it still have what it takes to fight for class honours? To find out, I-ll take a look at its interior design, practicality, infotainment system and hit the road in my full in-depth review

So what is the best touring (Kombi) on the market today? (or tomorrow). I have the E61 535d touring and in terms of comparison its still on a par or better than the majority of new tourers available today, and much cheaper. Though it is far from perfect in terms of design, it has its flaws but we forgive it, we love it! Fun fact - Our 12 year old diesel estate is a 170mph car. Thats right, it hits its limit of 155mph in 5th gear. Its now on 255k kms and it is still going strong, no rust and pulls like a train. PS 0-100kmph is 6. x seconds standard and if you can take off in 2nd gear it does it in the 5s.

That car looks like it has Merino leather, which is a cheat. Nobody and I mean nobody orders it. Why spend a couple of grand to line your BMW with its finest grade of beautifully stitched leather, when you can spend the same money on a set of 20 inch alloys that ruin your ride, or an M Sport kit to kid yourself that your cooking, diesel saloon is a sports car- and sit instead on BMW-s Dakota leather, which is indistinguishable from plastic?

Design issue on hood IMO. 9: 35 On all the reviews, photos etc ive seen of this particular model, what is wrong with that hood. The gap between the grill-frames and the hood is off and the hoods angle in the area where the grill-frame meets the headlight: the hood has a to steep angle towards the grill-frame. Total eye poo in imo world. Enough to not buy the car - plus the rear looks like a 200x asian car: /

Good review. However may be you were trying to look cool standing on the back door window area or sitting on the roof of the car. I found it rather rude and disrespectful. You are still probably the best English speaking car reviewer. There are however better German speaking car reviewers than your self in my opinion. Mainly because they're more serious and respectful.

Altough I love Mat's reviews, I must admit that he is very harsh with the cars. Not verbally but physically. He pulls and pushes and turns every button, door, handle or whatever very aggressively as if he owned the car for 5 years. Don't know if he notices it, but when he started opening these storage compartments on the BMW I expected them to fall off

Just seen one of these at Available Car and now I don-t want anything else. It was superb. When my Tiguan is due to be returned I-m having one of these. Trouble is I like my options ticked and this has many many option for many many pounds. But I-d be happy with adaptive LED lights and suspension

never liked the bmw's at all. its a bit like iphone. you buy it for shit load of money and you can't even use it. you have all the -shiny- extras. but you don't have a reasonable userfriendly car at all! haha.
can relate to Mat's comments.
never buy a bmw waste of money.

A positive bmw feature missed here are the auto adaptive LED Headlights. They are incredible in terms of maximising night visibility safely. Consider doing a group night drive test for those very high/ low hemisphere country's where we have VERY long winter nights.

The BMW 5 series is the best estate in my opinion. The E class estate looks kinda generic and odd. Volvo. Too simple for my taste. Audi A6 is better than Mercedes E class, but the wheels they offer and rear design, is not my fav. BMW nailed it!

No Android Auto? That's a deal breaker for me. Why do BMW not have both, Carplay and Auto? Seems very strange. Shame though, as the rest of the car looked nice, but there are several alternatives with Android, so bye BMW, nice knowing you!
