If you like the looks of the Niro here are a few other advantages over the ugly competitors. I own 2019 Red touring Niro hybrid and LOVE it.
The other cars reviewed here have CVT transmissions. The Niro has sport mode, dual clutch, which makes it feel like a 200 horsepower car. The battery delivers like it's turbocharged. I can drive 500 miles on a tank of gas and get 45 miles per gallon while driving in excess of 75 miles per hour. My previous four banger turbo cars never got over 24 miles per gallon when exceeding 70. The touring package, sporty wheels bigger tires
make this such a smooth handling car. Here's a Big Suggestion for KIA. Make power adjustable seats available instead of putting glass sunroofs
in that just make the car hotter in summer. Living in California we get plenty of sun without having a sunroof. Front seat comfortable seats
should be an option, even on the least costly models.

After watching loads of reviews and reading the specs and brochures I finally took the plunge and got a Niro PHEV. I hate it and heres why:
The electric motor isn't powerful enough to pull the car up a hill if you have passengers and the engine has to kick in. Also if you want to be warm in winter, then the engine has to be running. When activating the cruise control and letting the gas pedle go, there's a short delay where the car thinks about this and if your going up hill then you end up slowing down. The charge cable can be locked into the car, but if you unplug the other end of the lead then this releases the lock.

Went to look at the niro e but dealer did not have one so look at the hybrid great little car till you come to the boot. Omg kia what with the fake hard plastic floor the all that black polystyrene you could give the people a 1/3 more boot space if you did away with all that crap from the boot.
Its such a shame because the carvis well package up untill that bit my advice get all that false floor out and you got a good family car thar cab take a family of 4band thete luggage. Leave all tgat false floor in and leave some luggage behind leave at least 1 persons luggage behind not good rethink the packaging kia

I have test drived a Kia Niro electric today. The problem with the car is the subtle smell of cheap plastic which was similar to the smell of an irritant gas we used to train in the army with, in the hazmat suits. I had a similar problems with the plastic hanldles of a cheap bycicle made in China (in that case the smell was persistent on my hands for many hours. I have read that this kind of plastic is indeed toxic for health. Matt, can you tell in your reviews how the cars smell (good/bad?

Do you know why the Kia Niro isn't a Top Safety Pick for IIHS? I've been trying to decide between the Kia Niro and Hyundai Ioniq. I like the amount of room for the 2nd passengers the Niro has. It seems like a great choice if I have kids one day and need to put in/remove car seats. However, the Ioniq is an IIHS Top Safety Pick for both 2017 & 2018. Additionally, Hyundai offers a lifetime warranty for the battery, which is one of the biggest longterm concerns for hybrid owners.

I leased this car a couple months ago & that noise isn't just when braking, it's also happens quite often when slowly speeding up. I live in bumper to bumper traffic & it's awful, constant & so loud people in other cars or walking by always look over to see what it is. I can't seem to get help from the Kia mechanics, so if anyone has any suggestions or can tell me if it can be fixed I would really appreciate it.

Just to say, the noise you hear at low speed, is the electric motor doing its job, this car always starts off in electric power, once it has done three and a half miles the petrol engine kicks in.
At very low speeds the electric motor will move the wheels but you must realise that with all electric motors, there will be a noise of the brushes making contact with the armature of the motor. Mike Palmer

Where's the 'kin handbrake!
Reasonable for outrage I've hatred of electric brakes. Experience of it in a hire car was awful, plus a mate who has a golf hates it. He never knows what it's going to do, and the garage keep updating the brake firmware to no avail. Why mess around with an established reliable easy to use universally accepted major control? What's next, no steering wheel just a joystick?

No spare wheel! Not even a space saver! They're really cutting costs there and the motorist suffers for it with an aerosol repair kit. What if the tyre blows out with a decent sized hole in it? You're basically buggered until the AA - RAC can tow you away! For this reason alone I wouldn't buy. I hope other motor manufacturers dont follow suit.

The interior feels cheap And I hate having to take my hands off the wheel for the multimedia area. I am pleasantly surprised at how easy the Apple play works though. I just have it as a rental though but the miles per gallon or something for me to consider getting past the cheapness of the interior
