So Golf has the 1. 5 liter with just 14cv more and some kangaroo problems, does a 0-60mph in maybe half a second better, has same torque, the infotaiment is worse (touchscreen) but has multilink suspensions (that weights more indeed.
I think that at same price, the Audi still has and edge to Golf, and now in second hand market you can buy well an Audi 8V with residual warranty or an extended one, so TODAY i buy Audi, even for resale value. Not to mention that Audi has Xenon and stellar build quality and interiors. And a lot of small touches that definetly makes every Audi an Audi even if 1. 0 TFSI.
These are car, not supercar. And a 1. 5 130cv is no way a supercar. Little difference between two engines. So small that in newer Golf 8 and A3 8Y the 1. 0 has been underpowered to 110cv with less torque to make room for the 1. 5 130cv.
And 1. 5 is not a great engine at all: remeber that Honda makes over 180cv by a 1. 5 turbo. not 130 or 150. And otherwise, the 1. 0 TSI is a great competitor.

Matt, as always, is favouring Audi. The whole test is pointless. First of all, get similar versions to be tested at the same - similar powered engines, gearboxes and body. If it's not available at the time of filming, it means the filming is badly scheduled. Do the test for public, and not because you don't have anything better to do. Second - this Audi is clearly worse than this VW, and the only advantage here is slightly better interior materials and -prestige-, which will eventually cost you more just because it's audi. More expensive service, cost of parts, etc. By the end of the day a typical everyday customer who does 7k-10k a year, mixed cycle, will go for VW. The customer who wants prestige, and can afford it, will go for Audi, but it will be RS or something other from Audis A3's top shelf, and not 1. 0L shite. There is some percentage of people who will buy it because of the look or misguided ideology, but it won't be big.

Matt, your -road Tests for beginners- are interesting, BUT, you need to readjust the way you do them. the vast majority of your viewers are NOT interested in the -traffic light grand prixs- you carry out. people want to know how quiet, refined and comfortable cars are (eg, use a sound meter) then you drive round a test track, is it -chobham-? And quote fuel figures that are NOT real fuel figures you would get in real stop/start traffic, as your teecha used to say to you. -room for improvement young Matthew -

Why do all car reviews discuss so much of what can be seen at first glance or quickly checked online, while completely ignoring the reliability of the engine and transmission? Even with brand new cars there often is a robust documented history of the parts used, since the parts are often carried over from previous iterations. However, reliability is hard to gauge from easily-accessed online anecdotes. So please give us professionally researched stats regarding maintenance and reliability.

I-ve owned both cars, but the 1. 6 tdi version of them both and this review is bang on! Everything said in this video is exactly what I thought about both of the cars. Personally I prefer the Audi just because the interior felt better for me than the golf and the head lights look so much better, when you unlock the Audi and the lights turn on automatically it looks a lot more of an expensive car and the brand -Audi- turns more heads than the golf

VW is known for poor quality here and a Golf could never compete with Civic and Corolla. You can literally go your entire day without seeing a golf. I heard they stopped making the base models because nobody bought them. Sometimes you can go your entire day without seeing a VW.

A Golf looks much more premium with the piano lacquer (had to translate this from german, it's gthe black glossy finish of some of the surfaces in Highline and special edition models. I do have this interieur configuration and it leaves an impression. People who get in for the first time are like -wow, didn't expect it to look so premium in here! -

I had a Golf a few years back and now a drive a A3, both good cars but they are as boring to drive as they are to look at. My wife drives a entry level Mini, it feels like a Go kart compared to the Audi, great fun. These cars really do look as though they've been designed by accountants.

There are so may VW golf's in my suburb in Sydney it is not funny. It's like every second car is a golf. I've been driving the touareg and now want to down-size. Audi looks lovely but it's pretty obvious practicality wise the VW is the winner.

Audi all day golfs are made of thin cheap plastic and they creak n rattle when new. 7. 5 GTI golfs are the worst things I-ve ever owned for cheap creaky interiors. VW has went downhill lately and I-d never buy anything from them again.
