Mister
Can anyone who has a California please tell me what this is like with 2 adults & 2 children, wild camping? And also if they find the LWB restrictive when driving and parking (I feel it-s not that much longer than the SWB and the advantages inside must outweigh the disadvantages outside - but, as I don-t own one, it-s easy to get it wrong. (I may be confusing this with other VW LWB conversions - I-m not sure if the California comes in an LWB version.
Regarding being 4 up, it must be OK on a campsite with the 3rd & 4th in an awning or tent but I imagine it must be quite cramped wild camping, even more so in poor weather.
I realise you can-t have everything - I-m just asking people who have one what it-s like under those circumstances.
I-m attracted to the California (and similar campervans) by its size combined with the ability to wild camp - being able to go anywhere and if you can-t find a campsite, who cares? It-s that level of freedom that I like.
Thanks.

I love reading all the sulky comments from people who love staying in a camper van. If they're looking for great comments - check out reviews from camper van fanboys - otherwise expect an honest opinion.
Guess what - Mat gives his honest opinion. If it's different from your own and you don't like it - look for a different review.
Personally - I couldn't give a monkeys either way, as I'd be checking into a hotel - and that's my choice. I don't care whether other people love them or not.
Great review Mat - I love them all, even if you criticise something I like - cos I know it's your opinion.
Excellent!

Wow. For $60K I could buy a Vette! If they would bring this to the USA I-d sell my-83 Vanagon and buy one.
With my -83 Vanagon I-ve found staying in National parks for nice long stays gives me full facilities for about $25-40/nite. On the road I can stay at Interstate rest stops, take a dry bath and pop back on the road after five or six hours asleep. Of course all this would be more difficult with a wife and kids but I have neither. At the best one might want to tag along but there is plenty of room for one more. The Ocean adds a level of reliability the Vanagon will never have. Send one here and I-ll buy it.

I love the honesty of this review. When Mat said -avoid-, I burst out laughing, I was that surprised - he-s the first professional reviewer that I-ve heard say so. And I say that as someone who is looking at buying a campervan the size of a California.
There must be some people who buy one and wish they hadn-t - who romanticise about living in such a small space and then decide it doesn-t work for them.

You did not mention the interior. This light interior marks really easily. Spill some water on the seat and you need quite an effort to remove the mark. I have to clean the entire seat every time Not great if you have young kids

To everyone saying this has a shower, what I meant is that it doesn't have a built-in one with warm water. You can get a shower hose option to hook up to the water supply. But you have to shower outside and the water is cold. Lovely.

its a camper van, not a motor home, like the awning option, fairly spend for all the gadgets, i have seen other van conversions for even more money, if you dye may be about the same price for a custom build

Bad review, he just fools around in the bus, pushing random buttons, opens doors etc. Very negative, only mentions negative subjects: its not doing this, its not having that. Is this an in depth review?

It's so small. just get a small RV that has a master bed room couches a dining area and kitchen and bathroom. You dont got to get a mammoth of a RV. This is just so expensive for what you get.

For that kind of money you can customize whatever van you want. and why all the manufacturers charge heaps for those multimedia systems when you can actually upgrade it for half the price.
