Skoda-s new VW Golf revealed - is the Scala better than its Volkswagen cousin?

This is the all-new Skoda Scala. It-s clear to see that the Scala is designed to offer direct competition to popular family hatchbacks such as the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf. But given how populated the family hatchback sector is, along with the likes of the Focus and Golf already being so established, does the Scala have a chance of standing out from the crowd? I don-t get why everybody is raving about this car, it looks just like the rapid, and from the side, just like any other estate, i mean the headlights are triangular so yay, originality i guess?
I very disappointed, when i saw the concept of this thing i was really excited, it was sporty and low and looked menacing and purposeful, but like many of the VAG concepts it-s been toned down to a boring, characterless, box. (Just like the T roc)
Where-s the lunacy, the imagination, the art? I mean i get that these don-t necessarily sell as well, but this car was supposed to be something different for skoda, something fresh and new, but it isn-t in any way.
I would much rather have a Proceed 2019, the shooting break, or a 2019 Mazda3 than this
PS: is it just me or is the interior exactly the same as in the new focus only with more angles and less curves?

This cannot be judged as golf equivalent, because it s built on Polo platform.
Only dimensions are similar, but technical solutions are better / expensive for golf.
Only someone who don't know the technical details can name this thing as concurent for golf and focus.
Okay. but really? concurent for focus? Which is one of the best handling cars in compact segment
I think title of the video and video description especially was decided to be a sort of clickbait

In some countries (Poland + post commie block ones, this big S K O D A in the back is nothing good and may actually reduce sales (skoda was nothing good these days neither and plenty of folks still remember that. This wasn't a smart move, especially, that e. g. Poland is their main market. You see, people don't buy Skodas for their badge ( they don't give a shit about history, but because it's -concealed- Audi (or VW.

Well. MQB A0. Polo, Ibiza and Audi A1 are using the same platform. Every single one of them is a small car. We'll see about this
Skoda really put that platform to its limit with 2649mm wheel base, the are compact hatchback numbers. 100mm more than a polo.
I hope the pricing will be right and the extras not too expensive

This seems to be a Skoda Rapid v2, or a forced move from Skoda manufacturer so they can rise the price of the Octavia artificially as this new Scala starts from 17k. Damn you VW Group. I will buy french cars! They look nicer and it-s cheaper too, and with a lot less engine problems (see TSI and TDI enginer problems on the forums.

They have scraped parts bin from Skoda past. Interior lights are from Octavia series 1. Skoda are cheap just open door and look at door hinges straight from Fabia, lack of soundproofing also makes them noisier but they are cheaper then equivalent vw so if you pay cheap you get cheap.

Another superb Skoda but obsolete ICE only? VAG invested billions to design their car platforms to take a variety of drivetrains. Now VAG is developing separate BEV only platforms, but Skoda needs to complete with Hyundai/Kia which is introducing Hybrid PHEV and BEV versions.

I know Skoda have come on leaps and bounds lately, but for a brand new car punching fairly high, the quality of the top edge of the stitching on the back of the right hand side headrest (01: 06) was terrible! I'd be asking for that replaced.

I'm the happy owner of a Rapid, and I look forward to seeing this new addition. The only thing missing from the Rapid is roof rails like on most A3s. Would be great if roof rails were an option for the Scala, I'd de be tempted!

I still don't get why VW have Skoda and Seat Brands, but then I guess the public are easily fooled by manufacturer branding. Fact is Audi is pretty much VW and only the higher brands are sufficiently differentiated
