Renault Zoe review - the best value for money EV in 2020!

This is the new Renault Zoe! Renault-s updated the Zoe to give it some new tech, tweak the design, and more importantly, they-ve fitted a new battery and motor to give it better range! Of course, we-re not short on choice when it comes to the small EV market, with competition like the Peugeot e208 and MINI Electric already standing out from the crowd. So does the new Zoe have what it takes to go one better and become the must-have small EV of 2020? Check out Mat-s latest review to find out!

-carwow I dont know if it is a very British thing to brag about everything, but certainly this review is almost impossible to watch to the end with all his terrible sense of humour (unnecessary comments about vomiting out of the window/acne looking parking sensors/single speed automatic gearbox - wait what) and rather unreasonable criticism narrowed down to mostly to his personal preferences (like cheap plastics in A-class car or lack of plastic in the boot area - first world problems indeed) rather than highlighting any serious issues with the car itself, which it hardly has to be frank. It is really not the first time when Matt reviews are simply biased with comparisons towards more upclass vehicles. -The electric scooter moment- was just ridiculous because he didn-t even try to have even a minute of thought how to properly fit his segway in Zoe-s boot (D: 560mm/H: 622mm/W: 900mm, and simply threw it on folded back seats bragging that he just couldn-t! There is no mention of how great is the car-s suspension and handling, especially on terrible roads (better than in Merc A-class, which is a very important part in any decent car review. Take it or leave it, it is very objective to say that Renault Zoe is a winner in comparison to almost all its main competitors - both price-wise and in terms of its built quality. The car design may seem a bit bland at the start, yet after giving it a second look it is more futuristic and dynamic for an EV than others, especially in comparison with Nissan Leaf, but it is the only criteria which is definitely a matter of personal taste. Alike Matt, I also tried all available EV over this summer, and only much bigger and expensive VW ID3 can surpass this little nippy french. Stay objective and focused on real issues! Dislike for this review.

i hate how he keeps complaining that it feels cheap. I have driven the original Zoe and today (finaly) the new one and can say with confidence that it is a huge improvment over the previus version so I dont like how he keeps being like a child who is spoiled as heel. My opinion is that if you are not two obsesed on the car being perfect in any way it is perfect car, it has all the equipment a normal person would ever need as expirienced today. Some parts of it are not perfect like the wireles charging goes on and of ocasionaly and the brakes are a bit two graby as he said but it is quite possible to drive one pedal if you can be bothered to press the brake pedal when completly stop then it stayes no mater if is an incline or a drop. So don't knocket till you try it as I did and i like it. The only thing I dont like is the price but hey everything can't be perfect

I bought a new Zoe last year and for the most part, except for the satnav shortcomings, I love it. Its range is generous, the ride compliant, seats comfortable and in my opinion the design, remarkably still fresh and modern looking despite being unaltered since introduction, graceful and elegant from every angle - a big selling point for me. No surprise that for a very long time it's been the best selling BEV in France.
(Being a card-carrying technophobe all I now have to do - and I'm serious - is discover how to switch the radio on. Modern cars are so complex. On the move my last vehicle had to be legally accompanied in front by a man at walking pace waving a red flag)

This was my favorite rental car until a few months ago when it decided to simply stop on a highway, with errors which made no sense. Maybe the new model is nicer but it feels like a cheaper car inside for that price. Usually I am not a fan of Matt's cribbing about plasticiky bits, but here he is spot on!
The good part, when it runs its very easy to handle, very quiet (duh) and its probably a good city car. On motorway, I felt it struggles. It is an entry level car and at that its very good.

I avoid Carwow reviews because of Matt. I watched all the other reviews as I consider a Zoe and left this to last so had to suffer this fool for 20 minutes. The most annoying about the review is Matt, the only crap thing about the review is Matt. Why does anyone at Carwow think it's a good idea to have a reviewer as patronising as he is? Matt was bad enough when he was on CarBuyer but he's actually got worse, much worse, if that's even possible. Come on Carwow, get a proper reviewer.

You would think the one thing French carmakers would do well is interiors. (capital of fashion and all that) well let me tell you Renault and Citroen have the most horrendously designed interiors for comfort in the world in my opinion. As a tall guy 6ft 3, i have never been able to find a Citroen or Renault that does not case me to bang my head on the roof and have insufficient leg room or adjustment options. It puts me off ever buying one.

Those pillar stickers are a Renault staple, I've had them on my 2008 Twingo RS, where they were textured (for her pleasure, maybe to imitate carbon fiber, who knows. The great thing is that they shrink over time, exposing a sliver of glue that attracts dust and creates a light grey rim around your fake carbon fiber window camouflage stickers. Also, the brakes and clutch were comically undersized.
Other than that, the best car I ever owned.

His reviews provide the information a buyer might need to know, but I really do wish he'd tone down the silliness/impishness. He obviously feels he's injecting some humour, but in reality it's just a bit cringeworthy, not to mention childish. My suggestion would be to leave humour and wise cracks to the professional comedians and simply review the car, providing information that's as accurate and truthful as it can be.

I got one around a month ago as a business car at my work.
Everything Matt says I agree.
About seat adjustments, it is really weird, to be honest, I'm 184cm in height and it's is almost too high for me, I can drive it without bumping my head, but it is close and it is a really weird feeling, not comfortable seating position at all.
I average 13kw per 100km which is good for mixed driving.

What we want to know: in cold British weather range in every day urban environment? Are the pre- 2020 Zoe's good value? How long did the presenter have the car for? Has he lived day in/day out with the car over a period of time; say a month or two? Stop the silly b------s with electrical scooter and general silliness. Facts and real world ownership please.
