Introducing the all-new Mercedes-AMG SL 63! It-s a replacement for the AMG GT Roadster, and it's set to go head-to-head with class-leading drop-tops such as the BMW 8 Series Convertible & Porsche 911 Cabriolet! So, does it have what it takes? Well for starters, the Mercedes designers have clearly cranked up the aggressive looks in comparison to the outgoing GT Roadster. The new SL rolls-up sporting an absolutely huge grille along with some seriously pointy headlights. The impressive looks continue once you take a step inside, too, with the dash dominated with a huge infotainment screen just like you'll find in the new C-Class & S-Class. In terms of performance, the range-topper is housing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet, to deliver an awesome 585hp & 800Nm of torque! It-ll also hit 60mph in an awesome 3. 6 seconds! Naturally, it won't come cheap, with the new SL coming in with a starting price of -100, 000! So, is it worth it? Or should you choose the 911 Cab instead?

At least Mercedes have moved away from trying to rehash the perfect & elegant design of the original R230-. the horrendous tweaks & facelifts based on the R230 from 2011-ish onwards right up until this new model-. It-s a brave new move away from the last 10 years of utter sh1te SL design -. but touchscreen? Why? -
Mercedes have a massive problem though- They-ve totally moved the SL-s away from elegance -. This new design is bold, but they need to get the SL-s away from this generic aggressive front end that every other high performance car has!

Imagine making an SL without a hardtop. They've let the A class designer of 2016 have full control over all mercedes design. EVERY MERCEDES NOW LOOKS EXACTLY THE SAME, you drive passed C classes mistaking them for E class and you'll be confusing them with new S classes soon. Mercedes used to have their cars like brothers and sisters. You can tell they are from the same family but are unique enough that you wouldn't confuse their names. Whereas now Mercedes are like having Twins. Anyway this SL lost imo the second it didnt have a hardtop

All much-needed improvements and upgrades. A sleek design, pretty but not especially memorable. It should age well and I am glad they ditched the retractable hard-top. Only the Ferrari Portofino did that feature with any success. It looks good up AND down. I'm glad some manufacturers are still able to produce cars like this but they have to be on the endangered species list. Also, I wonder if the potential customers for this car would be happy with a Mazda Miata once they drove one. They could buy nearly 3 for the same cash.

I ordered one it-s gonna take a few months to have it delivered! Just enough time for my buyers remorse to sit in on me at $110, 000 plus sales tax I just went a little while at the dealership adding extras but really I got an inheritance From my grandfather. That-s a good thing about being an only child you don-t have to share these inheritances with anybody!

Is it a good car, yes, is the styling ubiquitous, yes. Why chose this over a AMG GT C convertible (which yes is shortly if not already out of production) I dont know. That being said R230 SL55 with performance pack (also know as F1 pack after F1 safty car) is still hands down the best modern iteration of the SL bowing only to the 198 SL300 (54-57) coupe

Mercedes innovation alive and well. No battery. What a car. If that ping pong table in the center stack retracted into the dash somehow this would be the most perfect car of all time. As it stands it the most perfect car money can buy right now. Stunning. If you buy a run of the mill 911 cabriolet over this you need your head examined.

Since VW bought the company that made the hard top convertible modules, it seems every car, except Ferrari, that was offering a hard top convertible in the past, went with the soft top route.
The SL became irrelevant sandwiched between the GT and the S-class coupe, but this new version seems to bring something different.

Miss the retractable hardtop. Makes it the best of both worlds (coupe/convertible. Not really gonna carry passengers, and this is really more of a luxurious cruiser, so the additional weight is worth the trade-off. Retractable hardtop just makes it more exotic, looks better with top up, quieter more secure cabin, etc.

Is it just me or is the car industry getting old? I mean, each car company can literally pick their best from each range and perfect each. But no, they make you feel like you're lacking unless you get the latest release. Or it could be that they are incapable of perfection. This irritates me

I'm a HUGE Mb fan, but let's get real, folks. This will NOT contend with the 911. This is a touring car, positioned well against the Aston Martin Vantage. The SL is a lovely car and it will sell, but it can't come within a mile of the 911 in terms of raw performance. Not a chance.
