Genesis GV80 review: A budget Bentayga!

Meet the new Genesis GV80! It s a posh, luxurious 7-seater that is looking to go toe-to-toe with market leaders such as the Mercedes GLS and Audi SQ7! The question is, can this Korean SUV display the German market leaders? Well, let s take a look at what you get for your money. It certainly looks the part from the outside, with a smart split taillight design and roof spoiler around the back, through to a huge grille up front. In fact, we re pretty sure the Genesis designers borrowed a bit from the Bentley Bentayga But then again, that s no bad thing! The quality continues on the inside, with soft-touch materials throughout the cabin. Premium models such as the one we have here come with wood effect trim as well, which if anything reminds us of the BMW iX! It also comes with a set of digital dials, although the quality isn t that great. One area where the GV80 is let down is the choice of engines, where you only have one petrol and one diesel to choose from. The petrol s a 2. 5-litre 4-cylinder turbo that can produce 304hp, so if you re looking for a bit more power from a 7-seater, you may want to look elsewhere. The Genesis GV80 comes in at 60, 000, rising up to around 78, 000 for top-of-the-range models. So what do you think - is it worth it? Stick with Mat and see for yourself!

It just looks really cheesy though. For people who couldn't hack it in the industry and bought the Chinese knockoff product instead of the real thing. I think it's nice, but since it's so directly copying Bentley, it falls flat. It needs to be more individual, and not piggybacking off of the success of Bentley. If they had made a car without the lines of the Bentayga, and made their own concept then it would be better. It will always be a second rate Bently for poor people who want to look rich, and I hate that about it. The whole brand should've been more distinct, instead, it's just a worthless copy of Bentley.

This world makes no sense:
When Bentayga comes out all car reviewers say it looks ugly. Then Genesis makes knock off Bentayga people are praising it for it s design. Tell me how that makes sense.
Also 100+ grand isn t necessarily a cheap car. can still get an X5, GLE or a Tahoe. But I think it s better not to get a city SUV at this price point and go for a higher end Benz or an M5 if possible, or get a Land Rover Discovery and actually do something full-filling with your life rather than drive a sedan with 10 additional cm ground clearance

I just bought the GV70 advance trim in the same color combination (Cardiff green! = almost British Racing Green. 19 inch wheels cuts the road noise and 0-60 with same engine circa 5. 6 seconds. Not quite so many features as your GV80 and obviously smaller but at 54, 000 a great value luxury proposition. Think of the brand Genesis as equivalent to Lexus, Acura and Infinity but as the new kid on the block has to earn its reputation which takes time. In the USA, the drivetrain warranty is 10 years! So far I am very happy with the first 1000 miles.

I ve got the gv70, great car and I ve had it over a year without any issues at all, that s very rare when a new shape, new engine new everything comes out, normally always has issues, I said it before I bought it and I m right, genesis can not compete in the European market, not bcuz the cars are bad but people will stick to the Germans, Lexus been around years and they can t compete in the UK, another problem is they have no dealerships in uk

Nothing wrong with the motor size. Thats enough power for the weight to reach the speed limit comfortably and economical. No sane person does a zero to sixty down the road or on a public road. Most people just get in and drive their usual route to work at the speed limit, stuck in traffic or to the shops or on the school run. As long as it can hit 70 on the motorway at a good mpg. It's will suit 90% of all buyers.

Yep both the GV70 and GV80 are very impressive cars, especially the beautiful interiors. BUT the MPG on both are shocking really, compared to their German competition. This would definitely be a deal breaker for me. Even the EV versions don't have great range. No idea about price comparison with the competition, can't be arsed to look them all up. Lovely outside and in but flawed ICE engines.

Genesis is the new Lexus. Reliable, quiet, super comfortable and quite luxurious at a modest discount to established luxury brands. Styling is attractive but not wacky (like Lexus today. Recently had a G80 sedan for a few weeks and was impressed by materials, attention to detail, quiet ride and tech. I would definitely buy a G90 and am waiting for GV90 SUV, which is coming soon.

Really snowy UK, good thing that the manufacturer provaided you with winter tyres. not. Safty first, right. About the vleaning of the side windows, i thibk it's a asian thing. saw that on many Japanese cars, looks like they don't bother with it

4: 19 what's that language. I'm polish and it reminds me of another slavic language (maybe czech, or slovakian) 8: 20 It might be because it's a model for mainland europe (which that thing about language I wrote earlier explains)

It may be cheaper and better than a Bentayga, but the typical Chelsea mum will still prefer the Bentley for their usual school runs and trips to Waitrose. I bet they d rather be dead than seen in a Korean car. No matter how good it is
reply

The genesis gv80 was made like that before bmw even came out with there idrive system interior and it s way cheaper than any bmw out there right now, also u get a warranty on that hoe, a long ass on for a car that don t break

Still waiting for Genesis here in Sweden Most likely wont happen considering Kia sold barley 350 Stingers here in Sweden since 2017 so it appears anything not german isnt high-end enough for my fellow cucksmen.
reply

Genesis is just a hidden gem in the luxury car segment, and I'm glad Hyundai has been able to pour a lot of money into the brand to ensure that it's really competitive with the German brands They've just been killing it
reply

wouldn't buy one new, but with depreciation that is likely to resemble a lead brick heading towards the bottom of the Mariana Trench, these will be worth considering 3 or 4 years into their 5 year warranty period
