AMG SL 55 v 911 GTS: Which is best?

When it comes to drop-top sports cars, it doesn t get much better than the Mercedes-AMG SL 55 and the Porsche 911 GTS. But what happens if you re in the market for one and can t decide which to choose? Well, Mat s here to help you make that decision! So let s see how the two compare, starting with the design. The new SL 55 rolls up with a super aggressive front end, with a big AMG grille straddling the centre with big air vents on either side. It s a bit tamer around the back, but at least you get quad-tailpipes with it. As for the Porsche, it has the traditional sloping bonnet up front for that classic 911 look. The rear end s a bit large, but that s what you expect when you choose a convertible. One thing these cars both have in common is the quality of the interior. The AMG comes with its customary jet engine-style air vents, good-quality materials throughout, as well as a huge infotainment screen in the centre. You ll also find carbon fibre trim on the centre console. As for the Porsche, it s also made with high-quality materials throughout, and in our opinion has a slightly better build quality. The dials also look absolutely gorgeous! But of course, it s not all about style Sports cars need to have performance, and neither of these cars is lacking in that department! The Porsche is powered by a 3-litre twin-turbo flat-six that can deliver 480hp and 570Nm of torque. As for the AMG, it s housing a 4-litre twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet that can deliver 476hp and 700Nm. However, whereas the Porsche only drives the rear wheels, the AMG sends power to all four! When it comes to the price, the Porsche comes in at just under 125, 000, although if you spend 6, 000 more you can get it with AWD. As for the AMG, it s a whole lot more expensive, coming in at over 147, 000! patfromozZ: Remember the supercharged E55AMG/SL55AMG? Pretty sure even the E55 was making 476hp/350kw?
Was that 20 years ago? I don't think those numbers from the AMG for that money is that great. and yes I know there is a 63 with a good wack more but never the less pisses me off a tad. forced induction v8 vs forced induction v8 from same manufacturer and 20 years apart. Power to weight would likely be worse now too.

There's no way I'd chose a merc over a porsche. But I couldn't help but notice he seemed to like EVERYTHING about the porsche. I mean, honestly, I like the way the merc looks, and I'm sure ppl will agree with me when I saw unless you've got a car from the gt division, porsche's are a bit. 'meh', they just blend in. Some ppl actually like that. Understandable.

Something like a Lexus lc500 cab is a much more fair rival to the SL than the Porsche. I think the sl looks much better than the 911 with the roof down. The 911 s rear is too high. The Porsche cab is easily the worst looking out when compared to the coupe and targa.
The real L is in the name. SL means sport light but it s 2 tonnes overpriced too.

The reason for SL55AMG is that I want 911GTS, but I chose it because I am a car-loving person and I don't want to ride others, and secondly, most people who buy a car like that at a low price want a car like that. Three times, the Porsche 911 is a pricey option to do that. AMG is also burdensome if you drive to and from work every day, but 911GTS,

First i didn t agree with your verdict the porche design inside and outside are boring specially out side its so old design rather than merc i see in this video you are so biased to Porche i am sorry but you are mistakin the Mercedes way better in looking than the boring design Porche that is didn t changed since 1970

I've never understood why people drive with the roof down in winter, especially UK winter. I never will.
In this comparison, I would personally take the SL 55. It is incredibly gorgeous and comfy. I disagree with your verdict that the 911 is the better one.

In the UK they are going to make noise restrictions more stringent, so you won t even get to hear the noise these cars make, and they are going to fit sound meters and make sound measurements part of the MOT so you can t modify your car to be noisy either.

Here's my opinion:
The 911 looks better.
The SL interior is better.
The SL has a better convertible chassis.
The SL 63 is more comfortable than the 55 any 911 with its hydraulic suspension.
The SL sounds better.
The 911 is sharper to drive.

A Porsche will always be a Porsche. I have an SL65 and prefer the SL as GT, rather than going back to its Sportcar roots. I wouldnt take an SL over Porsche because almost no manufacturer does Sports Cars quite as well as Porsche does.

The only 2 sports cars I ve driven in my life were an older sl55, and a new 911. The 911 was beautiful, but I have to say the V8 and big deep sounding exhaust of the sl55 kind of made it more exciting and fun

I think I d have the Porsche, I prefer the Mercedes interior, but the Porsche is a proper sports car and is smaller and lighter. Much better for the UK. All wheel drive Porsche Cabriolet, GTS.

No way you think that Porsche looks better than the AMG. I'm not even a Mercedes fan but it looks 10x better than that Porsche from every angel. Crazy how different people's opinions can be.

The Merc with its bigger boot, bigger back seat plus its better infotainment and heating systems will be easier to live with. And it looks and sounds great.
But the Porsche though.

I have loved the 911 since I was in elementary school. But the convertible is just not attractive. Imo, the problem is that the Porsche looks better top up than top down.
