We ve got our hands on the new Honda Civic Type R, so of course, it s time for an epic hot hatch drag race! We re putting the Type R up against its key competitors - the new Golf R 20 Year, the AMG A35, BMW M135i and Audi S3 to see which is quickest over the 1/4-mile. So let s see how they compare. Starting with the Golf R, it s powered by a 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that can deliver 333hp and 420Nm. It s equipped with AWD and weighs in at 1, 480kg. Next up it s the S3, which has the same sized engine and can put down 310hp and 400Nm of torque. It s also got AWD and tips the scales at 1, 500kg. The BMW also comes equipped with a 2-litre turbo 4-cylinder, which produces 306hp and 450Nm - the highest level of torque in this line-up. It s heavier than both the Golf R and the S3, coming in at 1, 525kg. However, it s not the heaviest car here. That honour goes to the AMG A35, which weighs in at 1, 555kg. It still packs a punch though, with its 2-litre turbo 4-cylinder engine being able to put down 306hp and 400Nm. Then finally we have the Type R. Under the bonnet, you ll find a (you guessed it ) 2-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, that can put down 329hp and 420Nm. It may be the lightest car here, at 1, 429kg, however, it s also the only manual! What s more, it only drives the front wheels!

Forget about its performance in this video, I would buy an A35 over all those every day!
VW and OOOO are the same cars! Boring, plasticy, offers nothing more than two different badges.
BMW clearly ruined its outlooks since 2010's. Any BMW post 2017 looks ugly.
Civic is alright. Just not my fav. package. I prefer more comfortable, economical, green city carrier from Honda, rather than performace.
MB though ticks all boxes. And A35 is just the right stuff. Not over uber expensive for 0. 5 second faster on a track or straight line. A perfect blend

BMW needs an M140i, this M135i is a disgrace. that A35 is tuned for sure, wise (old) man is not telling the truth, the Honda is below its competition, Honda is made for only adding a pinch of power over the old one, a brand new flagship model from Honda is slower/not that much faster than outdated Merc/BMW (and GR Yaris I should mention) which have less hp. What happens when they get updated. In the age of 4 wheel drive hot hatches you gotta increase your power by 60hp if you are sticking [with manual].

Not a fair comparison pitching the FWD Type R vs all the AWD hatches. However I understand the price bracket they're all in.
A FWD race would be interesting with the FL5 Type R, mk4 Cupra 300, mk8 GTI Clubsport, Megane RS, i30 N facelift, that would be fair

great drag race, I had a previous gen S3 that did a 12. 6 in the quarter mile and that was completely stock using 99oct fuel. I now have an A35 and its done 12. 6 too using 99oct so it may have something to do with the fuel difference with these cars?

I love the look of that Civic but that price tag? And I'm not sure if I'd want to go back to manual after driving DSG. S3 is the nicest inside but I don't think it would handle as well as the R. So I would have the BMW cuz it looks the nicest.

Who s been wining in F1? Honda and previously 7 years in a row AMG! Why y all are so surprised? Seriously? Your feelings means nothing when your beloved car brand doesn t have the tech and guts to place a power unit in F1!

No matter how pro driver is but they is always error in time in gear shifting where torque converter, DSG always has edge
Civic done pretty well considering it's with manual gearbox and all are Automatic

Carwow should definitely put a couple of stage 1 cars against regular cars. It would take over even more of the market. Maybe a best power for your money
My money would be on an n57 e90 335d over a golf R

8: 46 I wanna see that too, hot hatch dyno competition. I loved that dyno video and i'd love to see that become a series, where you take like 4-5 comparable cars to the dyno and see what they put down.

That Mercedes driver is a proper tool. Who the hell does that. Like we don't know. All we know is that A35 would have been last in everything. That's why the guy tuned it and lied. Absolute Muppet

Truth be told I'm actually a tiny bit disappointed that there was only one drag race. I've gotten used to doing 2 or 3 races. And especially considering this amazing lineup of vehicles

13: 08 You can here him going down the gears to improve braking.
Racing driver Sam is doing everything to win
Though, I think none of the other drivers shifted while braking.

Well, the new Type R is a sedan, not a hatch like the Golf.
Also the Honda is much faster on track or twisty roads and MUCH more reliable too.

reply

Mat for Audi if u want to go over it s soft limter out your gear in between park and reverse hold on the brakes and then starting revving with accelerator
