BMW X7 v Range Rover: ULTIMATE luxury test!

Thanks to for lending us their Range Rover! When it comes to luxurious 7-seater SUVs, it doesn t get much better than the BMW X7 and Range Rover LWB! The question is - If you re looking to splash the cash on a high-quality SUV, which should you choose? Well, Mat is here to run you through these two contenders to see which is best! When it comes to the design, these two are pretty different to each other but still look good from the outside. Not only are they both imposing due to their size, but they both manage to stand out. The Range Rover looks sophisticated from the front to the back, while the BMW X7 looks pretty imposing with an aggressive front end. Both cars come with a high-quality interior, too. The X7 s cabin is covered in high-quality materials, and this face-lifted edition comes with BMW s all-new infotainment screen and system - the same one as found in the new iX. It comes with a number of physical buttons, and almost most controls are managed within the screen. The Range Rover also has an all-new infotainment system, coupled with a large infotainment screen on the dash. It has more physical buttons than the BMW, but unfortunately, there are a couple of bits of plastic trim to be found. Both cars come with various engine options, and the range-topper in both is a 4. 4-litre twin-turbo V8. However, while the Range Rover can produce 523hp, BMW is slightly up on power, at 530hp. Finally, we have the price. Naturally, neither car is cheap, but while the BMW X7 range kicks off at 85, 000, the Range Rover comes in a fair bit higher, at 107, 000! If you want the two cars we have here, they will cost you 116, 000 and 127, 000 respectively.

nah, from the front it is not better than on the pre-facelift X7, it looks like they are copying Citroen. you do not want some copy of Citroen at this price,
Look at new GLS or Q8 - those cars look much better from the front
IMO desing on new BMW cars is getting worse, not better
If you compare new 7 series with S class or A8 you will not choose 7 series over those two, it is ugly and i think that people that have this kind of money don't want ugly car
Thank you for coming to my short TED takl, good night!

To be frank I would take RR it's more comfortable & give better command over the road even 2nd row is superior to X7 every ways (if you spec accordingly) off road capability also better in RR.
X7 has an edge over RR with superior driving dynamics which is trademark of all BMW's so yeah if you want all-rounder or value for money then X7 is to go but who cares for Vfm at this price point

reply

Eye watering prices for these cars.
In some parts of the country you could buy a house for the same price.
Will only appeal to the well heeled members of society.
In practical terms who in their right minds would try and run a vehicle of this size in a city centre apart from those with a large ego?
Far too big for day to day use.

The only important comparison between these two is that BMW is about 30% more reliable than the most unreliable automobile in the world and that is Range Rover. Even the brand new ones. I have seen them going to back the service cause the transmission failed at first 4000 miles or so.
reply

The interesting thing is, BMW initally owned Land Rover brand and developed the original e53 x5 off the range rover. After the x5 took off, BMW dumped Land Rover to Tata I think? And the rest is history. So technically the x7 is a derivative of the Range Rover it's being compared to.
reply

I agree with you, the X7 is objectively the better car in most aspects but unfortunately I think it looks terrible whereas the Range Rover is a thing of beauty. A piece of art. And for that reason (and given that it's not that far off the BMW in most aspects) it would be my pick!
reply

The front of the BMW looks awful. The only reason someone will pick this over the Range Rover is because they can't afford it. The Range Rover will go anywhere in any condition. Not so much the BMW. Not to mention, driving a Range Rover is also about status
reply

I thought you were trying to be objectively in your review in which case why did you fail to test them off road?
The BMW is known as a road burner whereas the Range Rover is known as an off roader therefore your review was biased.
Shame on you!

reply

I prefer BMWs interior but least but the new screens are awed up. Exterior the bmw is awful too. Least you know in the Range Rover no matter the weather you will get home.
I have had 3 BMWs. But I will have the Range Rover thanks.

reply

Both are beautiful in so many ways. But the BMW digital dials look cheap when it's not flush to the dashboard like the RR. The RR is far nicer in the driver's seat because of how everything is laid out.
reply

Is it just me or do those mood lights on new cars seem a very silly thing?
I turn the ambient lighting off on my Touareg as it s massively distracting and actually completely pointless.

reply

Why do some people get so excited about BMW SUVs?
The German brand is as common as muck these days, unreliable, overrated and overpriced and driven by wannabes (pretentious people.

reply

The Range Rover looks so much more luxurious with it's smooth body panels. The BMW looks more sporty so I personally would take that but really neither of these cars is really for me.
reply

Love your vids Mat. however you keep saying that most people run Android Auto or Apple Car Play. who are these people? I dont know anyone that runs either as their default ICE.
