Gas struts and felt lining does not a posh car make. The 508's bonnet is supported by two much larger gas struts, and the 308 has a new gear selector as well as a full-sized glove box, so whilst some materials and fancy tech may lead to the impression that the DS 7 is a posher offering, it's not the latest tech in the parts bin. Also, the rear end is so Audi to the point that all the lights are in the tailgate, which means when it's open, there's no illumination on the back - daft idea.
I want to see DS do well but whilst they're (sort of) Peugeots in a frock - and subjectively, not a better one, either - it makes it difficult to recommend them. It's a bit like Ford and its Vignale trims - are/were they worth the premium? It's a shame that the DS 5 was killed off, as that looked to be truly left-field.

with regards to the back seats, where when you push them forward and they have a raised sections, is that because manufacturers have gone away from lifting the back seat bases up prior to pushing the backs forward? You never seem to mention whether seats have this feature. my seat ibiza, has a similar raised section if i only push the seats forward, whereas if i lift the seat part first then push the backs down, then i have a virtually flat back transport area for larger items.

A mate got one of these recently (top spec hybrid) but he isnt a car person and views them as just an A to be B machine. Surprisingly quick, and actually a very nice place to sit. Reasonable looking, and a good family car, but about as exciting as getting a pair of socks in your Christmas stocking. Warm, practical, utilitarian, but boring. Depends what you're looking for, but for me, at that price, it needs to seeve up a bit more je ne sais quoi.

I don t understand why cars these days are limited to only 1 1/2 tons towing capacity. They must be more powerful than cars used to be when I was a young man in the 70s. Cars of all shapes and sizes, used to tow caravans. Yes of course they were slow and a nightmare if you got stuck behind one, but they managed to get to the campsites. So surely these big powerful SUVs could manage a full-size caravan.

MAT, in France, we haven't better car to submit. I don't know what is the feeling on board the 300 bhp and the 360 bhp engines. You understood now why i have never bought a french car. To be honest, i don't think that CITROEN knows what mean crossback. crossback, fastback, shootingbrake, sedan, convertible. It is chinese for us. Thank you for the test and the video. I always learn a lot with you.

Mat, I like your back-to-basic reviews as I think they can help make your mind up on narrowing down your alternatives when buying a new car. Quite often it is the little things in a car design which can put you off buying the car, things like no normal buttons for operating how warm or cold the car is; a bonkers trend!

There is no desirability with these. It s clearly a Citroen / Peugeot and that s very evident t inside. Audi does a very good job of defining itself even though it s VW parts. This car is trying too hard and buyers in this segment generally don t want quirky.

I got to test drive this car before, and as a 194cm (6'3) and around 150 kilos, even with the seat at its lowest, my head does not fit in the car. This was a 2022 car, don't know if they changed it, but yeah. That was my experience.

Stelantis has a very bad reputation though. They let the rubber timing belt run in oil (belts snap within 60. 000km) and reduced the warranty with no warning to their owners. It's a big thing in my country now.

I don't like the opening of the rear hatch as it look too much like the Audi Q5. and the center clock is ostentatious and ugly. Nothing really stands out in this car. Just another VW or Audi like. thing

2 things, first the chrome strips on the rear door sits higher than the chrome on the rear panel and second the gear selector reminds me of the old top gear when clarkson swapped mays gear stick for a dildo

60K how ridiculous the prices of cars these days. Buy a Duster while they are still reasonably cheap. And they get you from A to B the same as any other car and most say still look very stylish.

Main gripe I have with my family's is that the stereo is extremely bassy, even when lowering bass via the equaliser.
And the handbrake button is too confuse able with a window controller.
