Honda Civic Type R v Toyota GR Yaris: DRAG RACE

We ve got Yianni in the new Civic Type R, and he s facing off against Mat in the GR Yaris! So let s see how these two compare. Starting with the Type R, it s powered by a 2-litre turbo petrol that can deliver 329hp and 420Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels via a manual gearbox, and it tips the scales at 1, 429kg. Then we have the GR Yaris. It s equipped with a 1. 6-litre 3-cylinder turbo that can put down 261hp and 360Nm. Just like the Type R, it s a manual, and it tips the scales at 1, 280kg. However, it has one key advantage over the Type R - it s four-wheel drive! Does this mean it ll be a clean sweep for the GR Yaris? Or will the additional power of the Type R push it to victory? There s only one way to find out LET S RACE!

im at 2: 28 timestamp, havent seen the race yet but my guess is civic will win in roll race. drag race maybe the yaris might punch out quicker but th e extra 100 HRsPrS from the civic might catch up? IDK but on paper theory this what it loooks like. But in all fairness, race the GR corolla and the civic and the Lotus Emira with that peppy toyota engine. also the toyota Corolla vs the 400z vs the integra type r vs the civic type R vs the manual supra these are good options

In my opinion the two cars have big defect, first is the time for civic to be allwheel drive and more more power and like a DSG transmission and manual same time, and for the yaris in my opinion it is a failed car I don't respect or accept never the 3 cylinder engine it should be 4 cylinder minimum 1, 8l or 2, 0 and the corolla also I think the Toyota company was drunk when it was made and last sure I chooce the civic with all its falts

GR Yaris all day any day. That car is going to appreciate (it already did) in value for sure, future classic.
Also the drag race was the best demonstration why most of the hot hatches and enthusiast cars suck.
The GR has the recipe. lightweight, small and wide chassis, 4wd, decent power and torque. More than likely you would beat the crap out of the Honda on any twisty B road, especially in wet conditions.

The way you see the gap increase at every single upshift is a testament to Hondas engineering for the gearboxes of the current and past Type Rs. If I miss one thing from my S2000 the most it s that ridiculously sharp 6-Speed box right at your fingertips.

The difference is the GR is good but its tiny and you can fit it in the civics boot? you can carry luggage in all your friends around Europe in the type R and still thrash it around the track and probably beat the GR on a track and it won't break down?

In the Yaris apart from the psychological hit of being 3 cyl you get a lot of technology and a very effective car that uses all it's power.
The Civic would be great at it's old price, with the new price. it's not as good as it should.

Yanni in a Type R 80k for a civic but the funny part is in the United states they're going for about 70k the mark up is ridicules no one is buying them. We rather the 1993 -2000 civic models and swap a k series in it.

Matt, the new Honda Civic Type R has loads of bespoke panels and parts. The amount of effort gone into it, it's insane. IMO it's a good deal.
GR Yaris, they're probably building at a loss.

47k for a fwd civic that on a dry track is quick is mental and will get embarrassed by so many other cars on the road where you will be 99% of the time and not the Nurburgring. Looks good though.

EXCELLENT! Clean sweep apart from the unfair 4WD advantage initially. I have a family, so no choice with those 2 - Civic all the way. Should have compared with a Corolla GR anyway.

Have anyone heard of launching fwd cars. I use to do this all the time when I don t want any wheel spin in my 90 Chevy Beretta GTZ 5 speed. Use to get off the line pretty good this way.

You can bypass the softlimiter by putting the car in Track Mode + Warm engine + holding down the brake + having the car in neutral.
Then you can rev the car all the way up

A great test would have been to stick 4 people in each car then compare that to having just the driver in the car. The difference in this case would have been drastic.

I'll rather take the GR YARIS not much difference in gap just remap stage one the GR YARIS will be animal and that typeR no way worth 47k absolutely ridiculous price

Very impressive for 1. 6 3 cylinder to keep up with a 2. 0 4 cylinder yes I know the yaris has awd. But even so, credits to toyota for creating an awesome hatchback
